Good luck in the playoffs! What system do you use in reference to playing and simming games? What ever happened to Ozuna? I'm glad to see Garrett is progressing well, I look forward to calling him up (again) within the next couple of seasons.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread

I don't mind to hijack this thread with another one of my posts but I got so much to write about.

      Miami Marlins 2021 Postseason:

Wildcard Game vs Giants: After that loss to the Nationals to loss the divisional crown, many would have felt that Miami would have been demoralized going into the Wildcard Game against the San Francisco Giants, a club vying to get back on top of the baseball landscape especially after having their World Series defense in 2020 thwarted by Miami as they went on a WS rampage of their own. Instead, Miami jumped on Madison Bumgarner's throat. After Rush was cut stealing and Yelich struckout, back-to-back singles by Stanton and Guzman sent up a 3-run-bomb by none other than Yasiel Puig! He had struggled all regular season but paid dividends here. The homers didn't stop there for Miami as Guzman/Puig went for back-to-back solo shots in the 3rd inning as Bumgarner was pulled having surrendered 9 hits, 2 walks, and 6 earned through 3 innings. It truly was a star showing by Puig, who hit another home in the 7th off a Giants reliever to knot 3 homers on the tie as well as brillaint thrown from the outfield to gun Christian Arroyo who was looking to score on a hit. Miami won 8-3, King Felix didn't allow a run, and Miami would venture on into the NLDS against Los Angeles.

Divisional Series vs Dodgers: Things did not go as swimmingly for Miami against the Dodgers as they did against the Giants. In the 1st inning of Game #1 on the road, Miami got 4 runs stunningly off 99 overall Julio Urias... but those would be the only 4 runs they scored. McCullers pitched well but in a bases loaded jam in the 7th, Jake McGee allowed a 3-run double to Corey Seager as the Dodgers took the lead 6-4 and held on to win. In Game #2, Miami once again scored earlier but Yohander Mendez allowed 6 hits and 4 earned through 4 before being pulled. Winning 9-3, the Dodgers took a 2-0 series lead. Miami did manage to steal a game off them in Game #3 thanks to a great game by Guzman and Rush holding on to win 5-3 and getting Felix his second win of the postseason, but LA were simply too over-whelming. In Game #4, Cuban phenom Yadier Alvarez got the start for the Dodgers and never looked back after allowing a 1st inning homer to Kurt Rush. He went 6 and only allowed 2 hits. Braxton Garrett pitched well for the Marlins but he allowed a 2-run shot to Yasmani Grandal in the 5th and that would turn out to be a devastating blow as the Dodgers pen held on to clinch the series victory and advance back to the NLCS.

It was a good season for Miami, after such a rough back-and-forth regular season, they got back to the postseason and it marked the 4th consecutive year they accomplished that feat. The Los Angeles Dodgers were simply over-whelming. This would further be proved when they went on and swept the Chicago Cubs in the NLCS. In the World Series, they faced the stacked Boston Red Sox featuring a squad of 97 OVR Andrew Benintendi, 95 OVR Chris Archer, 93 OVR Mookie Betts, 93 OVR Craig Kimbrel, and 90 OVR Chris Sale. After taking a 2-0 series lead at home it looked like the Dodgers were collapsing when they lost 3 straight on the road to fall behind 2-3. Instead of suffering the biggest heartbreak of all their postseason collapses, they won Game #6 by a score of 7-3 and in Game #7 they won thanks to Joc Pederson driving in their only 2 runs, the 2 runs they would need to clinch victory by a 2-1 scoreline. Congratulations Dodgers. Clayton Kershaw signed with the Astros in the offseason and it turned out he was the curse all along, and props to Dee Gordon for winning back-to-back World Series Championships on different teams.

I've only played 2 full games through all the seasons I've played. Both of them were the Wildcard Games. Other than that, I really LOVE the new feature of "Quick Manage". It is a life-saver when you wanna get games through quickly but you still wanna have fun and play as your guys without it taking forever. I'd say probably... 80 games during the regular season are affected by quick manage/critical situations. Rest are simulated. In the playoffs, every game is quick manage though I limit myself to only being able to enter 3 times for divisional round, 5 times for championship series, and 7 times for World Series.

Ozuna was a really tough decision for me but I decided to let him walk in Free Agency back when he reached his 6th year of MLB Service Time. He left in the 2020 MLB Offseason and signed a 4-year/30.2M contract with the Los Angeles Angels. I just felt like he didn't get on base enough to be worth 8M+ per season. That offseason, Puig became a free agent from the Dodgers. I've always loved him in real life and the Marlins had a void in a Cuban on the team after Hechavarria was traded so I signed Puig to fill that void. He's been under-whelming in the regular season and a superstar in the postseason + we got a World Series title out of it so he's been well worth the money. In terms of how well Ozuna has played with Trout out in Los Angeles, he hit 15 HRs and slashed .293 / .359 / .828 but only played in 98 games due to injury. Still managed to post a WAR of 2.8. In his second season he played 122 games but suffered a torn rotator cuff which ended his season and he was hitting far worse with 20 HRs but .240 /.303 / .720 so I can't say I've truly missed him, though I do hope he still does well in California.

Garrett should be a star for you. He's up the 86 OVR now with morale and I love how he feels in-game. I really hope he can take-over as my true ace once King Felix starts to really decline just because you really need that elite arm in the postseason.

          End of April - 2017

Ended up restarting my franchise and haven't been playing as much. Finally got through April though and things arent much different than the first time around. We sit at 12-12. 4.5 games behind the Tigers (who have the best record in the AL at 17-8) for 1st. And 1.5 games out of a wildcard spot. The Giants have the best record in the NL at 18-8

The offense has been extremely frustrating. We have the 3rd best AVG at .273. 6th best OBP at .330. And the 4th best SLG % at .452. Add in the 5th most HR with 34 and the least amount of strikeouts by far with 114. All that combined has brought us just 86 runs. Tied for 23rd with the Braves.

The home run part is a bit misleading. Of our 34 home runs. Mike Moustakas accounts for 35% of them with 12. He started off the year with 7 HR in 4 games. He hit a HR in each of the first 4 games. Including a 2 HR and a 3 HR day. He isnt just hitting HR either. He is tied for the team lead with 7 doubles. His 10 walks are best on the team. And overall that has amounted to a .391/.470/.885 line with 23 RBI. Its without question that he is by far the best player on the team through the 1st month. Alex Gordon has had a nice start to the season hitting .302/.362/.500 with 4 HR. Paulo Orlando was playing well before going down with an injury. Hitting .301/.341/.434. He fractured his shin and will be out for 2-3 months. Its a pretty big drop off after that. Escobar is hitting .271 after hitting just .190 10 games ago. Salvy and Hosmer are both hitting .256 while Lorenzo Cain is hitting .250.

On the pitching side we are 7th in ERA at 3.19. Have allowed the least amount of hits and we are 5th in walks allowed. All that combined with the hitting at only sitting at .500. Its ridiculous.

Of all people Nate Karks has the lowest ERA in the rotation at 2.38. Ian Kennedy is next at 3.06. Has the lowest WHIP at 0.96. Danny Duffy is at 3.27. He hurt his hip in his last start and will probably need to miss a game but its not for sure so he didn't go on the DL. Jason Vargas had the best game of the season for us in the last game of april. Took a no hitter into the top of the 9th before giving up a lead off walk. Finished with 8 IP, 1 H, 4 BB and 6 SO in a 1-0 win over the Twins. Jason Hammel rounds out the rotation with a 4.24 ERA in 34 IP and a 1.00 WHIP. Out in the pen Kelvin Herrera has a 1.08 ERA, Matt Strahm has a 1.29 ERA, Travis Wood hasnt allowed a run in 6.1 IP. Peter Moylan has a 1.29 ERA. And Joakim Soria has a 3.24 ERA. We are releasing Chris Young before the next game. He 1-1 with a 5.79 EA and 1.93 WHIP in 4.2 IP. Jake Junis will take his spot in the pen and will fill in for Danny Duffy if he needs to. In 34.1 IP down in AAA he is 3-2 with a 1.83 ERA.

I dont expect much. But im surprised we arent scoring more runs with the production we have had to far. I still think we will need to sell at some point. The plan was to try and keep Moose out of everyone but as of now he would be the guy that can bring the biggest return. Still early though and we are by no means out of it so anything could happen.

11-5 with the Yankees on the young season. Just swept the White Sox in the Bronx, and took the first one in Pittsburgh behind a CG SHO from Tanaka (his 2nd straight).

Currently on a 6 game winning streak. My hitting is near the bottom of the league, and pitching near the top. Working on A&S Sliders to dial in the correct levels.

Decided to un-retire my Rays franchise as it's really the only franchise I've enjoyed so far this year. Had to trade a few guys since they ran out of minor league options which I think was caused by putting them on the 40 man roster too early. Anyway, we were the #1 ranked team going into the season and so far so good as we are 18-7 after the first month of play.

This franchise will only end when I get tired of playing the Show which I'm happy with since I usually have a problem sticking with individual franchises so creating a great one is a god send.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to add/sign Legends to my Franchise. I've turned the option ON to sign them in the franchise set-up page but every time I start the franchise I don't see any of the legends in the free agents. I've done many Google searches but still no success. Can anyone help? Thanks for the consideration.

If youre using any of the OSFM rosters, there are no legends. They have to use those player spots along with all tge available create a player spots to do the full minor players

So does manually picking a training session for a player work?

Because I'm noticing as I get deeper into my Franchise, more and more player's attributes are deceasing by 1s. So I'm picking training sessions to get them back up to normal but after 2-3 days it's still the same.

Do they work? How do you configure this so that the player isn't having major decreases in attributes?

I have always had training on AUTO but I noticed the CPU had players focusing on the wrong things they need to work on.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Franchise Discussion Thread

I am in Year 2 of my Brewers Franchise. I love Franchise mode on this game. I'm totally hooked. Even though my team isn't great.

My approach is to play select two starters and play every game they start in full. In 2017 that was Chase Anderson and Jimmy Nelson. I quick manage the other games, I enter all games in the 9th where there is a Save situation. Granted, that only started after I traded the horrific Feliz and moved Knebel to Closer. Love some Knebel!

In Year 1 I finished with a, less than impressive, 69-93 record. But it's worth noting that I played solid Baseball up until just after the All-Star Break. We were, 6 games over .500 at one point. But coming up to the trade deadline the Brewers sat 3 games under .500 and decided that it was time to cash in one their assets with an eye on the future.

Ryan Braun, 33 was having quite the season. Hitting .314 and was 6th in the NL in HRs and 3rd in RBIs. I figured his value was never going to be this high again. So after exploring all of our options I dealt Braun to the Blue Jays for Vlad Guerrero Jr and two other prospects.

Then as the deadline rolled closer I was offered a deal for Jonathan Villar. Not a player I had anticipated trading. But the Indians, clearly in a win-now mode offered Francisco Mejia, Brady Aiken and Yandy Diaz.

I then moved Jett Bandy (with Susac, Pina and now Mejia coming through) for Ronald Guzman, to add some depth at 1st.

Then, moved top prospect Corey Ray (57 overall, not sure he'll make it before I get fired) to Texas in exchange for Jurickson Profar and another prospect. Profar has proved a useful acquisition in hindsight. because he can play so many positions, and his high "Plate Vision" means that he has good ABs, he's a pro at having the odd 8-10 pitch battle that really helps getting some starters off the mound.

After I made these moves, the wheels somewhat fell off. My platoon of Profar and Nick Franklin in LF was not exactly an adequate replacement for Braun. Then Thames got hurt and was out for 3 months.

However, I did have a strong draft. Picking up 1b stud Bruce Belliard, and a host of other good prospects.

Chase Anderson had a strong season. Finishing with an ERA below 3! Keon Broxton (81 now) developed nicely, as did Orlando Arcia (77). Corey Knebel was probably the team MVP, with an ERA below 2.2 on the year.

Trading Braun really kept my income high. My bank was loaded come the off-season and so with over $2.5m per week, after re-signing all of the players I wanted, I entered FA with some money to spend. Albeit, I did not intend to make many serious moves.

My goals in the off-season were: Add a Starting Pitcher. And to the Bullpen. And a power bat. Add platoon depth to lineup. Most notably goo contact vs Rhp. I missed on my pitching goals.

Not a lot on the market, and none that I could compete with against other teams. I picked up Joe Blanton in the pen, but nothing flashy there either really.

I improved the batting lineup with my marquee signing of Todd Fraiser. On a two year deal. I paid him a lot, but I think he was needed, and the 2-year length is good whie Guerrero develops. I also added vetern hep in the form of Jason Werth (platoon vs Lhp) and Johnny Peralta (good contact vs Rhp) at SS. Both on 1 year deals.

Entering 2018, I also brought Lewis Brinson up to the majors. Santana, Broxton, Profar, Werth and Brinson give me options (plus Thames and Perez can play out there). Mejia also will get reps in a rotation with Susac at C.

My team looks strong at the corners with Thames at 1st, Fraiser at 3rd. Travis Shaw can play both 1st and 3rd, with Thames moving to LF in the event I want all three in the lineup.

Pitching however, remains an issue. I have left Josh Hader (67) in AAA to start 2018. It was initially my plan to use his in Long Relief, with Garza released and Jungman taking his spot in the rotation. But one of my Draft Picks - Scottie Pinto has proven quit the surprise. 72 overall - A potential. He will go into Hader's role in the pen with a view to landing in the rotation later on in the season.

2018 has been rough from the get-go though. The Brewers currently stand 7-13, after a 0-7 start. I lost my first three games in brutal fashion on te road to the loaded hitting Orioles. Jimmy Nelson, seems to really struggle when I don't get the Sinker working. Machado and Trumbo had really strong series. Then Marte really gave me trouble in the next series vs the Pirates. And the bloody Matt Carpenter in the third series vs the Cards. Carpenter hit 3 doubles and tripe off me in one game! (Wily Peralta on the mound).

But things, are turning around. A series win over the Phillies, and the Cubs have helped get me closer to respectability. Todd Fraiser has started to get hot. An finally I am getting on base early with Perez and Broxton at the to of the lineup. The goal for 2018 - finish at, or close to .500. Then add some pitching! I need to see what Hader can do, and work Pinto into the lineup. If I can find a good FA pitcher in the summer, I think we're close.

                            Damn that got long...

How are you guys going to handle the new prospects via the MLB Draft?

Will you start a new franchise with those players automatically on teams?

If you already have a franchise will you edit players to add the first round prospects? Or do you completely ignore the draft since each individual franchise is different?

                              Thanks for the input!

Texas Rangers Update: Season 2 MOM

Well 100 games in to the season and the Texas Rangers sit at 50-50. We are 11 games off the pace and 8 out of the Wild Card. The Mariners and Angels are fighting back and forth for the division lead. I am hoping to catch Houston for the final Wild Card Spot. I made 2 trades. I traded Robbie Ray to the Mets and got back Addison Reed to bolster the bullpen. I also traded Phil Gosselin to the Royals and got back aging Brandon Moss and Mike Minor. Both trades were small but I was looking for some help in the pen. In other news, Cole Hamels completely flamed out this year. He is 2-9 with an ERA over 5.5. I lead the league in HR's with Gallo sitting the pace with 19
