Whether they actually do anything for a 1080p in terms of graphic quality is up for debate - and I'm not very good at picking out that stuff.
Is there a park or area of the game that has pronounced jaggies, maybe on a fence or rails, or something like that? That would really be the best way to compare.

Honestly in my humble opinion if you were getting a 4k downsampled image, there would be no question, you would notice substantial gains in AA across the screen

I have a 4K/HDR TV, but a regular PS4. What am I missing out on by not having a pro? Thanks.

Here is Spokker's post detailing his thoughts on each Pro mode

4K: Wow. Sharp as hell. Can't find jaggies unless I'm sending the feds after them. Frame rate is playable during gameplay, but I think I'm seeing sub-30 FPS during cut scenes. Judder during cut scenes almost seems like the whole screen is flashing or strobing. Use this mode for your screenshots. It hurts my eyes in motion.

Enhanced Visuals: Sharp on close ups but not as sharp as I would like for distant objects. I think they use a weak form of anti-aliasing. Gameplay seems very close to 60 FPS as the pitchers motion has a high degree of fluidity. Not too much judder when I press R3 and pan around. Cut scenes are closer to where you would expect them to be based on MLB 16's performance, with a similar amount of judder.

They said this mode would have similar performance as the base PS4 version, but it exceeds my expectations performance wise.

High frame rate mode: The holy grail. If you are used to the amount of jaggies this game has always had on PS4, you're all set. Feels like a locked 60 FPS with few compromises. No judder on throws across the diamond. On plays and cutscenes where the camera view is isolated to the field with little crowd, less than 60 FPS but mostly smooth. When the screen is mostly crowd, you start to see it dip and a little judder is introduced, but so improved. Other scenes will dip for no discernible reason I can tell. But gameplay is always smooth.

HDR: I set it in the middle and a night game at Wrigley Field looks very bright. Brighter than I'm used to. I will have to play around with this more. I lowered the brightness on my TV and it looks more natural.

The problem is that the input lag was killing me with pitching. It's 35ms in HDR mode vs. 17 on the fastest HDMI port w/o HDR. Small sample size, and I was using some AAA pitchers since the rosters expanded in my franchise, but I could rarely get a good pitch thrown. Hitting wasn't as affected. I won handily on Hall of Fame with double digit hits.

Ive been looking at these splitters too but it would be much better if SSD could fix it lol

Its odd that this is a 1st party game and it doesn't appear to be downsampling when loads of other pro games do it with excellent results.

Id really like digital foundry to look at this, ive messaged them a couple of times on twitter.

I personally feel that the higher framerate mode is a bit of lie. I think it's no different than base os4 framerates

I suppose the higher framerate mode is more prioritizing a stable 60 fps while knocking down the eye candy while the other mode is more of a "unstable" framerate. Though, I can't say for sure as I didn't really pay attention to the 4k stuff for obvious reasons lol

Wait, so you saying your think the Old PS4 runs the Same as the PS4 pro and on HFR??? If so, I don't think I believe that.

Isn't the old PS4 pushing 30fps and the PRO can push the 60fps, if

Old PS4 can render games at 60fps.

I'm not certain what you're asking, especially since we all have different televisions.

There is a difference between items "popping" and items being saturated. I never aim for the latter. My sets are professionally calibrated. I'll throw out my numbers for you though, if you'd like. This is for a Samsung PN60F8500 (60" 1080p plasma):

If you activate Game Mode on this set, you will not have access to 10-point White Balance or Color Space options. If you activate PC mode, you won't even get to tweak the color setting.

If you're looking for more "pop" in terms of contrasted edges or depth fidelity, invest in a DarbeeVision Darblet. As for "color pop," the only things that can save you are professional calibration, the source of the game, or the TV itself (including HDR, which our sets do not have).
