Eat that and the 2017 Josh Hamilton salary, and then you *might* be cooking. But that still leaves $50 million over 4 years for a guy no better than Cam Maybin

True it's just the easiest one that came to mind. I had to deal him in my back burner Angels chise to get back in the black every week.

I will say though, that if any team is stupid enough to make that kind of deal it would probably be the Angels.

Sucks to see a team that is willing to spend the money needed to win yet they have no one that can figure out the right way to spend it

Agreed. That trade makes no sense for a team like the Angels.

The Cards make sense as they are a contender, can use depth, and will not be resigning Wainwright and if I add a “b” level prospect it can be a nice deal for both teams in their respective pennant races.

Just such a bad contract....it kills me LOL.

Re: MLB 17 Trade Discussion Thread

So.....kicking the tires on a couple of possible acquisitions early in my Rays franchise (using OSFM 1.5 40 man with game default contracts). My team is struggling on offense so far and I am forced to resort to a number of platoons (which is fine); but I seriously need offensive help....current roster construction as follows:

              C- Ramos
              1B - Morrison (vs RH)/Weeks (vs LH)
2B - Miller (vs RH)/B. Lawrie (vs LH)
              SS - Duffy
              3B - Longoria
              RF - Souza
              CF - Kiermaier
              LF - Dickerson
DH - sort of a hodge podge

The 1B/2B platoons are serviceable. I'm OK with Kiermaier (due to his defense) and Longoria is obviously solid. I would LOVE to rid myself of Duffy, but acquiring a SS who is a significant offensive upgrade is unlikely. What I would really like to do is set myself up with a platoon of Souza/Dickerson in the DH spot and then acquire a couple of solid OFs for the corner OF spots (emphasis will be on higher average hitters rather (i.e. strong doubles guys) than pure power).

Following a review of rosters, two guys immediately stick-out that seem to be reasonable targets with the skills I want.

Gerardo Parra - in my "universe", David Dahl is healthy and with him, Blackmon and CarGo (and Tapia/Desmond as well), Parra is an expensive 4th OF. He has the skillset I want.
Melky Cabrera - ChiSox in rebuilding mode; Melky is an older vet who is actually my favorite target.

One final thought: Andrew McCutcheon. We know the deal, Pirates have entertained offers, he is aging, blah blah blah. Not the elite hitter he once was, he is still dangerous. To be honest though, while the biggest splash...it feels like the kind of move that would sound sexier than the end results (and will cost the most in trade capital)

Any guys I am overlooking who seem to be reasonable targets?

Really? I've never had a cpu team offer me a trade in 30 control. Weird. I can't click on players on trade block to make offers either. I just have to do to that team and try to trade

JD Martinez. The problem with your ask is that those players are few and far between. The "typical" build for a club is power on the corners (IF/OF) and contact up the middle. Any of the players you mentioned could be realistic targets by a Rays club making a push, even if the contract was a tad expensive as long as it was short term.

                  Yeesh...um, Nick Markakis?

I thought about markakis...but...the braves don't exactly have a lot behind him, plus...he is sort of a veteran presence in the field ...for sure a,possibility

Do not go on the trade block.

Simply go to the "Make a trade screen/menu"

Select the player you want to trade from your team.

                        Leave other team blank

                        Press square

Search all or prospects only (whatever you want)

It will search and generate multiple offers (or not depending on player you want to deal)

View every offer and you can also edit any of them if you are going to pull the trigger.

But, we lost 2 good prospects in the trade and no Chapman. Yes the Cubs obviously won the trade if you look at it as they won the World Series that is the ultimate goal. But could the Cubs have gone to the Royals to get Wade Davis for less last year? Could Wade Davis have won them the world series? Who knows.
Wade Davis was on the DL until July 16th with a strained forearm. He went back on the DL on July 30th (after stinking it up for 2 weeks) with a right flexor strain and didn't come back until September 2nd. Many thought he might need Tommy John.

Nobody was touching him at the trade deadline.

After simming a few seasons with the Hybrid rosters, I'm going to need an upgrade at SS for the O's. Seeing J.Hardy top out at .232 over 3 sims physically hurts me. I've watched Z.Cozart fall between .262 and top out at .284 (minimal power numbers with a 50-75 point spread for OBP for both).

A month ago (4/5 to be exact), Bard had Z.Cozart at a low C. Are we sticking with that or has his hot start changed his value any? With a .423 BABIP, he's going to come back down to Earth but unless he stays in a huge slump, he could still be looking at a career year of 280/350/480 "ish" (wonky projection math included). Maybe slide him up to a high C for a 5mm guy with a good glove?

Just curious before I get neck deep into a franchise. I don't want to short the Reds a prospect and all signs tell me I'm going to want to make this move fairly quickly (Reds fall off fast in all previous sims).
