Re: Shohei Otani in The Show
If OOTP has Ohtani at release, there's no reason show can't. Also, as stated a few posts above, the fact that the devs haven't mentioned anything about two way players when they know so many are curious about this info can only lead to one conclusion.

Re: Shohei Otani in The Show
OOTP always has every minor leaguer down to rookie ball, full international leagues, and future draft classes at release. Ohtani was in the game last year and the year beforeComment

Re: Shohei Otani in The Show
Lets say the Angels don't even have him on the 40 man roster, and actually right now he isn't.
SDS would have opened a whole new can of worms. because why does Ohtani get to be so special, and someone like Torres and Acuna not? who both won't be on the 40 man roster till about the end of April. and if he isn't a 2 way player then for some reason he has become special for no reason. as I think if he is indeed on the default roster that would be the reason why. if not then I really want to know the answer as to why he is so special compared to other players.
What this would prove is they could get the rights for any player if they tried.Comment

Nobody has a clue why Ohtani is in and others are not. However, Ohtani left over 200M on the table to come to MLB this yr instead signing for less than 3M with Angels. I think that makes this situation different and I hope the Show is actually trying to help him get some type of compensation by doing necessary paperwork and overriding all kinds of things for him to be included in the game. As soon as he signed this year I thought it would be great to have him right away as a real player in the game. We as Show players should be delighted that Ohtani is in the default roster.
As for Torres and Acuna just be patient they will be in The Show 19.

Re: Shohei Otani in The Show
are you sure about that? because Ramone answer is always 'we can't because he is not a member of the MLBPA we don't have the rights"
so what would be stopping them for getting the licence to all the top prospects?
We are talking about a player that is going to be in the game that isn't even on the 40 man roster right now here. and someone like a Tim Lincacom who has been in the game for a decade who will be on the 25 man roster won't be in the game.Comment

They could have anyone in the game if they seperately negotiated with them to do so. There isn't often times a reason to do that. They chose to do so in this instance. Not really all that complicated.Comment

Re: Shohei Otani in The Show
Other top prospects don't have dozens of Japanese media members talking to the manager every day. To most American baseball fans Acuna and Ohtani are top prospects. It's not the same globally. He's a big deal in Asia, that's most likely why they want the rights early. Having Acuna in would not sell a single extra copy of the game.Comment

There was that Korean player for Baltimore a couple of years ago that didn't make the 40 man too and wasn't suppose to.
There not exactly promoting the game for Asia for Ohtani in it, they have not even said a word about him being in the game.Last edited by ninertravel; 03-19-2018, 06:35 PM.Comment

Re: Shohei Otani in The Show
Those guys were not nearly as popular. It's the same reason Tanaka didn't have 46 pages of posts on this forum when he came over. Do you really not see the difference?Comment

Re: Shohei Otani in The Show
The only reason their is 46 pages is because of the '2 way player' question. otherwise no one would care that much, it's also the only reason he is probably going to be in the game on the default roster.Comment

Re: why didn't they do this for other japanese players
Everyone and my grandmother seemingly knows who Shohei Ohtani is.
Tanaka, Darvish, Maeda, etc, these guys, while super talented, were much more niche. Even regular fans couldn't be faulted for not knowing who they were. I have met people who didn't know who these three were until halfway through their first seasons somehow.
They were talented, but didn't have even half the media buzz that Ohtani is having now. The last time I recall a Japanese prospect getting this much attention was way back when the Sox got Dice-K (because of some crap about the gyroball, a pitch that MLB the Show put in the game just for Daisuke). And this blows that out of the water too.-the least famous person you've never heard of.Comment

Shohei Otani in The Show
I agree. Seems ridiculous. But I really think if it was in, they would show it off and present it as a feature. Seems like it would be an overwhelmingly positive PR move to me. Which is why their silence actually screams no, to me anyway.
Then again they could just not think it’s a big deal the way we do. But I see it asked hundreds of times every Twitch stream so I feel like they’re probably aware we want it in.Comment
