Re: Shohei Otani in The Show

I don't see why all players are not able to be started at all positions, as is an option in actual baseball games?

Pitchers have had to play other positions in emergency situations, and position players are ROUTINELY brought in to pitch in blowout situations. The only way a position player can pitch in The Show is in NL games when the pitcher is pinch hit for. I can't simply warm up a position player and bring him out of the bullpen.

You also can't move your DH to a position, which in real life causes the pitcher to have to bat and is done fairly often.

So for example, in MLB the Show, if I start Austin Romine at catcher and Gary Sanchez at DH, if something happens to Romine (injury) or maybe I want to pinch hit for him, I can't move Gary Sanchez from DH to catcher....I'd have to use somebody else and be out of position.

I don't understand the restrictions on this. It seems unnecessary and prevents us from doing things that happen in real life.

I don't understand. If something is allowed in MLB, should it not also be allowed in the video game?

What could the possible exploits be that they are attempting to prevent?

Why did they make him so slow? He was one of the fastest players in Japan lol.

Also, to those who questioned him making the 40, Angels confirmed today he will make the opening day roster and debut in Oakland.

I didnt even realise Ohtani batted opposite of how he throws. I might have to plunk him a couple three times to see if I can remove his Ruthian ambitions

Obviously mixed opinions on ratings, which I would like to think will correct itself over time or can be edited by us.

I'm much more concerned about usage. Does anyone know if we can start him or other pitchers at DH?

Also, can we edit secondary positions for pitchers on CAPs? Mainly for Brendan McKay.

Did he get a face scan? I can’t tell. Also 25 speed? That’s got to be an error.

A couple pages ago someone mentioned he apparently did have a face scan which was extremely surprising to me as to when it would of happened.

It doesn't make any sense. They said in a Dev Twitch that the scans being used in the game were taken at spring training LAST YEAR. So I don't get how they have a scan of his face an an actual photo of him in an Angels uniform on his player card?

Trust me, I'm not complaining. This is actually GREAT if this starts to happen...it's just NEVER happened before. It's always been that you don't get into the game until the roster update after you debut, and you're just a crappy create a player with a generic face until the next years game...

Maybe there is some kind of change to the MLBPA CBA that we don't know about that applies to licensing and merchandise?

Anybody know if any other high profile rookies/prospects with 0 service time made the game? Gleyber Torres? Ronald Acuna?

They had actually tried to post him last off season but for some reason it didn't work out. He's been a big deal for over 2 years now. It's possible he had his face scan done last year. It also seems pretty easy to get a picture of him and put the art work in the game.

I totally agree...all that stuff is super super super simple and easy....it's just that they've never done it before for any rookie that I think is what people are finding confusing.

They didn't just drop Masahiro Tanaka into MLB The Show 14...he was added via roster update and was a generic looking white dude all year. Didn't even TRY and make him look Asian, lol.

When Andy Pettitte retired after the 2010 season and sat out all of 2011 and came back in 2012....he didn't make MLB The Show 12. He had to wait for a roster update, and again, generic white dude. Had his scan from previous games, would have been the easiest thing in the world to just use it....but they didn't give him a real face until 13.

Otani seems to be getting special treatment. Again, NOT COMPLAINING at all! I think this is great and I hope this is how all rookies are handled in the future!
