Temporary franchise fix. You can sub him in at DH as soon as the game starts on his non-pitching days.

The AI has no intention of using him on offense which is frustrating even if there is a "fix."
Just finished my opening 4 game series against the Angels and didn't see him at the plate once.Comment

Honestly I wouldn’t expect it (if you’re playing against the Angels) until SDS can somehow implement a overhaul of how to be able to start pitchers in the lineup without breaking the game. I am crossing my fingers for next year, but wouldn’t hold my breath.Comment

I starter two different MLB 18 RTTS characters this evening. One is a pitcher and the other is a short stop and visually the two players are virtually identical to each other in terms of name and appearance. Now here's the kicker. The Atlanta Braves drafted both players (two different RTTS save files). So at least while both players are following the same games on the calendar I am going to be able to be my own Shohei Otani. I like to play the full games, I am not a RTTS person who speeds through their games in under 10 minutes. I play full 9 innings using the Broadcast presentations which take well over an hour to complete, often closer to two hours. So I will play with the short stop for four day stretches and on the fifth day I will pitch and simulate short stop games while I am pitching.
I was planning on using two RTTS characters in MLB 18, but I did not plan for both of them to be drafted by the same team, nor did I reset the game if I was drafted by some other team. This was pure "Otani" coincidence.

Yea i don't think the AI cares at all what his secondary positions are. I played a game against the Angels and switched over to have him pinch hit, and one at bat he came up with runner on second and 0 outs and the AI treated him like a pitcher and automatically had my defense in bunt positioning treating it like a pitcher was upComment

I edited all of Ohtani's offensive attributes to zero & it didn't affect his overall one whit. Which tells me he isnt judge on his hitting anymore than say, a Mike Hampton or Bartolo Colon. But if you do decide to pinch hit with him, I bet the cpu will treat him with kid gloves, which would be better than nothing.OSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

This is what I'd do to DH Ohtani without losing a bench player in the process. This is using default rosters. I would not DH him on days Matt Shoemaker starts. On days I wanted to DH Ohtani I'd send Shoemaker to AAA & replace him with 3rd catcher Juan Graterol. Graterol would be pencilled in to DH but would never actually bat. Ohtani would pinch-hit for Graterol immediately. When its time for Shoemakers turn in the rotation, swap him back for Graterol. There is no limit how many times you can swap the 2 during the season.OSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

What bothers me about it, is that because he’s a SP, all the infielders use the bunt defense against him when I’m using him as a DH. It’s really annoying.Comment

soooo I pinched hit for him and got a hit with him on the first swing... but that is all you can do pinch hit and burn a bench spot and he really should be able to play 1st base not the outfield if he does play a position it would be that this yearComment

That is a damm good idea trick I never thought of that starting a 3rd catcher!! well done on finding a work around very smart, the only thing is would it make Shoemaker run out of options??
I suggest to make the CPU use him too to use the controller screen and move them with 2 controller to force them to pinch hit in the 1st. not sure if the CPU will however then decide to pull him out.

No, you only use 1 option a year, then that player can be shuttled back & forth during that given year as often as you want. You'll need to get your position player back down to the minors in case he's needed when Ohtani doesnt DH. And make sure your milb team doesn't use your pitcher
