They didn't just drop Masahiro Tanaka into MLB The Show 14...he was added via roster update and was a generic looking white dude all year. Didn't even TRY and make him look Asian, lol.

When Andy Pettitte retired after the 2010 season and sat out all of 2011 and came back in 2012....he didn't make MLB The Show 12. He had to wait for a roster update, and again, generic white dude. Had his scan from previous games, would have been the easiest thing in the world to just use it....but they didn't give him a real face until 13.

Otani seems to be getting special treatment. Again, NOT COMPLAINING at all! I think this is great and I hope this is how all rookies are handled in the future!
    Re:Andy Pettitte-
I imagine any player added after release probably cant be added back in as a scan, probably some kind of technical difficulty but thats pure speculation on my part. I assume if even Ohtani hadn't been on the default he wouldn't have been added in with a scan, even if SDS could have had his scan in their possession. Again, pure guess.

He probably got his face scan done last year. His Japanese team (Nippon-Ham Fighters) do some of their Spring Training workouts at Peoria Sports Complex where the Padres and Mariners do their Spring Training.

Posted the same thing 4-5 pages back. Most likely how it went down and judging by the screen shot his hair is short so that would have been last season.

Then I bet they did a scan of his CAP to make him look so real.

I’d say that’s pretty close. There’s some touch ups that need to be done but it looks good IMO.

No I'd say it's definitely a scan, that looks pretty spot on and I've been watching this guy for the past couple years now. If it isnt a scan then the art department stepped up their game for him, because it's of face scan quality for sure

Grrrr I'm so excited to play I need it to be tomorrow already!

Edit: just noticed they finally got the red belts in finally after 2 years, sweet! Glad my Angel's are finally getting some love!

I’m just speculating here but it hasn’t been answered but the fact that ohrani secondary is lf rf means should be able to share him

We need a pic of the lineups

But I thought he was going to play 1st base if he had to play any position ? There is no way Sosa will put him in the outfield.

Seeing as he's not a CAP (or so it seems anyways) it's likely we won't be able to share him. It has been said a few pages back that left and right field were his secondary positions though at least, so that's promising.

Also no, Sosh said he won't be playing Ohtani in the outfield, too much risk involved crashing into a wall or something. That said under a dire situation I think it could happen (injuries in an important game with no extra outfielder may force his hand but I'm sure they'll avoid him in the outfield the best they can). Also I've never seen anyone besides us fans say anything about him playing first to be honest with you.

it's probably lockedlike Sean Doolittle but it would be good if his secondary is editable.

I think he's just getting special treatment because of all the hype around him. It would be amazing if they were able to get other top prospects in the game, maybe the top 25 or 50, but that would likely involve them having to work out deals with each player since they aren't in the MLBPA yet.

He isn't going to play neither, he will be strickly a DH they probably gave him LF so he at least had a position because DH isn't given as a position it's just a spot in the lineup that anyone can occupy, probably a technicality to make him appear on the lineup screen. (My assumption)

Otani is 3-28 at the plate in Cactus league play and has an ERA of 27.00 with 2.2 innings pitched and yet I just read that SDS has rated him as an 86 OVR in the game. Now perhaps the article that says he will 86 OVR is wrong, but will the guy even be on the Angels 25-man Opening Day roster in the real world? Not saying he can't get his act together in the future, I am sure he is trying his best. But he seems more hype than substance at least at this stage of Spring Training and yet if it is true he is a 86 OVR, SDS is telling us that he is an above average player. Something does not add up here.

Despite a rough spring, Shohei Ohtani will reportedly be on the Los Angeles Angels' 25-man roster when they open the regular season on March 29.

He's going to be the DH on Opening Day, and is going to be the starting pitcher 2 days later. So he absolutely is going to be a 2-way player.
