My point is this is the year they really need to sell the game hard.

Look at all the people last year that went back to 16 after they got 17. They can't rely on the same customers that have bought the game year to year previously. Past years we have had much more info at this point.
When they introduced the retractable roofs in 16 they announced that at the beginning of December. This isn't the year to release info later into the cycle.

Edit : Also in years past the weekly streams have started in February which is 3 weeks away.

I'm one of the ones that went back to 16 after I got/played 17.

Look whether they give us all the information now or give us all the information 1 week away from release, people will have all the information they need to make a decision whether to purchase or not. It's not like that by having no information now, we are going into the purchase/release of 18 blind.

If may very well be February when they start the streams. I was just referencing that Ramone mentioned talking more about the game in a couple of weeks. Whether that is 2 weeks, 3 weeks, or 4 weeks, I have no idea.

Personally I felt the game was “unbalanced “

Hitting seemed off and the new budget system was cumbersome and frustrating. There were other smaller things that added up as well

I just find more enjoyment in ‘16

Fair enough, I'm just hitting the end of my first season and have some concerns about the budget system. Hoping they go back to the old system for 18. If so I'll hold.off on the off-season until 18 drops.

I agree about the lack of info. We usually start getting screens and a trailer by early January. I do think that the info, videos, and all the rest will start coming in, in Feb. like normal. But they need to show everyone that the problems that plagued last years release have been fixed. As Ramone said, I don't think last years release was acceptable by anyones standards.

Honestly, it seems like SDS is very focused on making sure the game is going to be release ready this year unlike last year. Instead of giving us all tiny bits of information from week to week to try and excite us, they are hard at work on the product. They did a closed alpha this year. Do you think they just magically fixed everything since the alpha closed already? No way. They're working hard. I think it is a good sign. They've always been good to us, they haven't changed. I'm still excited. I don't mind waiting longer, it means we'll get a lot of information in a short time leading up to launch.

I don't think whether they are hard at work on it or not has anything to do with their marketing strategy. One would assume they are hard at work on it every single year whether we get an information dump like a fact sheet, or little tidbits and streams like they've grown more fond of lately.

You can bet they will start the trickle of information pretty soon. If they don't, their pre-orders might not be as strong as they need them to be. I will never be one to pre-order just because I don't play any of the modes that you get the goodies for, but I wonder in a standard year what % of sales are done before the game even comes out?

The main reason that I am excited for the release of some info is mainly so I can start reading the threads. I love reading all the threads once the first bit of info starts dropping

I feel like if you buy the game yearly, you’ll buy it again even if not much news comes out. I’m personally okay with less announcements if it translates to mode/server improvements.

Since a majority of the Central/Midwest/Eastern/Southeastern part of the US is continuing to go through an artic freeze, I think SDS should give us some info to help cure these winter time blues.

Why do they need to “sell the game hard” ??

What difference does it make whether or not you know what changes are being made? These threats of not buying the game if they “don’t do this” or “don’t change that” mean nothing to them.

Fact is, the people who complain the most are the ones who are going to buy the game anyway. Like it or not, most of us are wrapped around their little finger. Threads like this one are evidence of that. We’re all drooling over ‘18 already!

And the constant complaining about the lack of focus on Franchise Mode is getting old. You guys know how business works. If you want the studio to put out a good game every year and grow their budget, they have to make money. They do that by focusing on revenue streams. Period.

I ONLY play Franchise and this is the ONLY game I own so it matters to me. But I’m realistic and understand that I’m worth less to SDS than the online customers.

Thats the problem therein that you think online players /DD deserves more then franchise and road to the show offline players do i promise you if all us offline players quit buying this roster updated game every year they will start listening to franchise players concerns more .. After the debacle that was the release of 17 there will be alot more players waiting ,skipping or not preordering till we gets news of major upgrades to franchise..

Sorry but that’s just not how business works. The Show obviously has a growing number of players who like online play, and they happen to spend a lot more money than the offline crowd.

Profit making companies focus on growth opportunities, not holding on to legacy customers. Two reasons for that:

1. With growth comes outside investment
2. Most legacy customers will keep buying regardless

thats spot on. thats why I would hope sony finds things us offline franchisers would be willing to pay for.

I dont think theres money to be made in more historic real stadiums as DLC.
but what about more DLC generic fake stadiums (for MiLB) to purchase
or DLC throwback uni's
or advanced stat tracking
or more than 90 man rosters

plenty of potential out there even if its not these things
and really, theres money waiting to be tapped from us too.
sony just has to go about it right to earn it.
