    Re: 18 news?

We'll see what they do with this year's version, because we don't know yet.

However, if the reality is that only one company is allowed to make a product that we badly want, and they have decided to mostly ignore that product's main/most important feature (to many of us here, myself included)....then that's extremely unfortunate, and frustrating. I can't even think of an adequate analogy to compare it to something else.

I'm a cynical person by nature, but all I can do for now is be optimistic that last year was a one-off turn in the wrong direction, and they're righted the course after realizing their terrible error.

Anyone who claims to be a fan of two teams in the same pro sport is actually a fan of none.

That's not the reality though. Hard to believe R.B.I. is in year 5 of its reboot. At the very least it should serve to drive SDS' competitive spirit.

Sorry, I disagree. RBI isn’t even remotely similar. It’s a completely arcadey and shallow experience. It’s like saying Backyard Baseball is a competitor of The Show. Just throw Pablo Sanchez in there.

Yeah, I dont care for it either but the point is SDS isnt the only company ALLOWED to make a MLB sanctioned game.

SDS isn't the only company that is allowed to make a baseball game. Microsoft and Nintendo can make a baseball game (Microsoft actually has rights to High Heat series or did)

And I believe 2K could make a baseball game across all platforms as they hold the exclusive 3rd party rights.

Although after thinking about it, without researching, I think that 3rd party licensing agreement expired, so anyone (EA) can make a baseball game.

Yeah, I'd imagine that 2k license has long since expired by now. So yes, the market's probably open to anyone to make a licensed baseball game. Sony's never had an exclusive MLB license as far as I know - they're only "exclusive" because they have no competition.

There's plenty of ways and reasons to attack Sony's recent business practices as far as Stubs/Microtransactions, etc. go - but claiming that they've bought out the market and aren't allowing competition is not a factual one.

Yeah the only exclusive deal with MLB was when 2k bought the 3rd party exclusive license in response to EA getting the exclusive NFL license.

And according to my brief research (google lol) the 3rd party exclusive license has lapsed so anyone is allowed to make a licensed game which stands to reason since RBI baseball is on the market.

My bad on the thought that Sony had the exclusive on the MLB contract. For some reason, I thought that it was like EA and Madden.

My new hope then is that another studio will step up and take a shot at it then, if they won't make a better game for offline franchise.

Love the Show but have feeling if EA ever dips back into baseball and with Frostbite Tech The Show would be in deep poop!

Microsoft has High Heat sitting in a box somewhere. I am surprised they never capitalized on it. At least give Xbox users something and I would not make it exclusive either.

Yeah I don’t understand why MS never released High Heat. The game was great back in the day and I’m sure there are developers out there who would love to resurrect that franchise.

I enjoyed HH as well, it was ugly as hell to look at visually but it played a really good game of baseball at a pace that was quick but never felt rushed.

It sure wasn’t the prettiest game to look at

                            I enjoyed it though.

High Heat was some damn good baseball for it's time. As was All-Star Baseball.

But nothing has come close for me to the years of enjoyment I have been getting from The Show series (well maybe MVP 2005....that game was fantastic for it’s time as well).

I still to this day will mess around with my expansion Louisville Horsemen who play in the Whitaker Grounds.
