MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

With the resigning period opening I went a little crazy. The Dodgers need to keep the rotation together as long as possible while they are young so I made this a priority. I feel I did this relatively cheaply, keeping myself under the luxury tax which is what I’m using as my yearly threshold. Ozuna was resigned with the intent that he’ll start 2020 on the MLB roster with the Dodgers not planning on resigning Lowe who was acquired via trade. Outside of pitchers, my minor system is deep enough where I can fill any position players lost over the next few years.

SS Gregory Ozuna 2yr/ 3.86 mil
SP Rich Hill 2yr/ 11.72 mil
RP Joe Smith 2yr/ 7.86 mil
RP Dan Otero 4yr/ 9.22 mil
RP Dylan Floro 5yr/ 13.53 mil
SP Ross Stripling 5yr/ 22.64 mil
    SP Julio Urias 2 yr/ 6.68 mil
SP Colton Stern 2yr/ 6.07 mil

I forgot to add that the 2 highest contracts, Kershaw and Turner, expire at end of 2020 and I do not plan on bringing back either player. My hope is to trade them in the offseason after this years “hopefully” World Series run.

What type of budget number do you have? I was actually surprised that in my carryover they gave me a 225+ Million budget at my last GM contract. That's by far the largest budget I've had in my 12 seasons and really is gonna allow me to spend freely.

Well the trade deadline phase is in full swing for my 2019 Mariners as we sit 8 games under .500. I was able to play a AA minor league game to get a feel for the M's recent 1st round draft pick SP Logan Gilbert as well as my top hitters. Unfortunately I pitched one of my worst games and gave up 4 home runs in 5 innings so it was not the outing I was hoping for, hanging changeups and curveballs all over the place! Luckily, I was able to hit a few line drive hits with my top OF Jared Kelenic to ease my pain... Anyways, here are some transactions that went down at the All Star break for us as we went into a full sell mode staying committed to this rebuild:

          1) Traded Edwin Encarnacion and a couple average minor leaguers to the Marlins for SP and 60 overall/B potential Braxton Garrett and a servicable 1B in Garrett Cooper.

          2) Traded Mike Leake and Hector Rondon for 3 minor leaguers with the gem in the deal being 19 year old SS Shervyen Newton from the Mets. Hoping I got my future SS.

          3) Moved top 18 year old prospect Julio Rodriguez up to AA to see what he can do for half the year. Raw power but still got some developing to do.

Prospects News/Notes: Sixto Sanchez is progressing quickly and is already 70 overall with an ERA of just over 3.00 in the minors at age 20.... Justus Sheffield is experiencing the rookie struggles in the majors right now but still developing well to hopefully make a good 1-4 rotation along with Marco and Kikuchi with a couple other pitching prospects in the mix as well...

We have a lot of money to work with in the offseason with Leake now off the books and Felix right behind him after this tear as these young prospects mature and develop so future is looking bright for my M's!

I turned the budget off in 2018 because I felt playing with them on hindered computer signings. I keep my team below the luxury tax threshold and make sure I’m in the green every week.

Don Mattingly did not show up for the Marlins game today because he said it wouldn't make a difference. Turned out he was...............wrong!

Despite back to back to back homeruns from Acuna, Donaldson and Culberson in the first inning the Braves (management won't let me call them"my" Braves anymore), fell to a bunch of guys lead by someone named Brinson who went 4 for 4 and had 5 RBIs. A guy with a really bad hair day named Urena got the victory working 5 innings walking 3 and striking out 1. After the game all he could say was "is this AAA?".

Braves fell to 16-17. After the game Curtis Granderson was seen taking his walker to the repair shop (anybody else seeing this?)

First place teams to date are:

                Nationals
                Cubs
Dodgers (already up 8.5 over the second place Padres)
                Red Sox
                Twins
                Mariners

Players have changed me to another hotel, so....until tomorrow.

That's cool....I couldn't turn mine off because I started on mlb 14 and it wasn't an option. I will say though it looks like I'm not hurting that much because in 2025 on mine My budget is 225 and threshold is 254.

My only complaint on my franchise thus far is that I was not allowed to turn GM contracts off. I am now stuck basically winning a WS every contract to keep my job. It's kinda dumb because when i simmed ahead I met every seasonal goal but did not win a world series and I was not offered a contract with the cubs. My tenure under this scenario would have been 5 titles in 14 years with 12 divisional titles. Kinda think I'd be getting a statue I only want to be my cubs so I really have no interest rebuilding another team. I would much rather rebuild my Cubs team. Oh well, it looks like I'm in constant reload mode ala the yankees in the 90s-00s-early10s.

                    End of Season - 2019

The 2019 season is in the books and it turns out speed and defense can win you some games. Just not enough for it to actually matter. We finish the season at 77-85. 4th in the Central, 8th in AL and 17th in the Majors. We went 25-20 to finish the season after a slow start to the 2nd half.

                    Standings
                    Spoiler

The offense didnt hit quite as well as we would have hoped. But it did enough to finish 16th in Runs scored (10th in the AL). We were 23rd in AVG, OBP and SLG. But when we got a hit they had a good chance to go for extra bases as we finished 2nd in Doubles with 290 and 1st in Triples with 45. We also finished 1st in Stolen Bases with 175 and Stolen Bases Percentage at .751.

                    Spoiler

Adalberto Mondesi was fantastic this year. Started a little slow hitting .250 in April. Then got comfortable and never looked back. He is just the 3rd player in baseball history with 40+ Stolen Bases, 45+ Doubles, 15+ Triples, and 15+ Home Runs. The 1st player to do so was Hugh Duffy of the Boston Beaneaters way back in 1894. And the 2nd was George Sisler of the St Louis Browns back in 1920.

Whit fell off a bit after putting up 6 war in 2018. Still had a solid season on the base paths and showed a little more power. Ryan O'Hearn in his first full season led the team in HR and did about as well as we could have hoped. Probably need to look into a platoon though. He hit .321 against righties with 23 HR. Only .217 against lefties with 3 HR. Aside from them there wasnt a whole lot of good. Andrew Susac came back up in the 2nd half and hit very well. Slumped a bit at the end of the season but showed enough to likely end up as the backup catcher to Salvy next year.

As for the pitchers. Well, they pitched. They just didnt do a very good job at it. We were 25th in ERA at 4.45, 22nd in Blown saves, 27th in Strikeouts, 14th in Walks and 13th in home runs allowed.

                    Pitching Stats
                    Spoiler

Jake Junis and Scott Blewett were the only pitchers to start a game and put up an ERA under 4. Thought Duffy did seem to have some bad luck with his FIP showing he should have had a much lower ERA. And Foster Griffin was good enough to be a serviceable 4th or 5th guy in the rotation. The bullpen wasnt terrible with McCarthy, Zimmer and Lovelady all having solid seasons. And Brad Boxberger not being terrible. Jake Diekman was a terrible signing though.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

Late April in my Braves franchise and I finally decided to bring Kimbrel home.

Minter/Vizcaino had been doing fine splitting closer duties. Venters and Carle have struggled. Minter moves into a setup role with Viz and Venters moving to middle relief. Carle goes to AAA.

Kimbrel was looking for a five-year deal worth $6.7M annually. I signed him to a three-year, $26M deal. New house rule is for every year I cut from the deal is $1M I have to add in annual value, so he's making $8.7M a year. Still a good deal. We're about $2M over budget now, so we'll have to trim some salary if we want to make any more moves.

Kimbrel struck out the side in his return to Atlanta to notch the save. Forgot how much fun it is pitching with him.

I don't like to sim thru and check things out, honestly. If there are issues with current contracts then I'm hopeful that by the time I get to that point of my franchise that SDS will have patched them. If not, then I'll deal with it when it comes.

I prefer to not go looking for issues. Not trying to be a wiseass nor am I'm taking a shot at those who like to check things out to see what they are working with, I just prefer to play and deal with what comes when I get to it.
Speaking of contracts. How do I resign my own players to extensions? I heard that was possible but can’t figure it out in season.

Right after the All-Star Break it became an option

MLB the Show 19 - Baltimore Orioles Franchise

Heading into the all-star break playing competent ball for now, as we’re 4-4 over our last 8 games. Alex Cobb was able to help us escape Tampa without getting swept by twirling a beautiful 89-pitch, 4-hit complete game shutout which has been our best pitching performance to date. Trey Mancini was ice cold all season but has raised his average 30 points into the .250’s and is currently riding a 10-game hitting streak. We’re severely lacking in power at the moment with Chris Davis hitting a cold streak of his own. Mancini and Trumbo have both failed to intimidate as well, both slugging under .400.

We head to Toronto for a 3-game set then have a few days off for All-Star week. Last time we met the Jays was a sweep in our favor at home. If we can win 2/3 it’ll set us up for a better second half, hopefully. Villar figures to be our only representative in Cleveland for the all-star game. He leads Whit Merrifield in voting among second basemen with 3 games left to play.

In other organizational news, we’ve demoted top prospect Ryan Mountcastle to AA Bowie. Mountcastle was to spend the season at AAA with a chance to earn a September call up, but he struggled out of the gate hovering around .230 and striking out too much. He initially showed some power, but the past month or so he has turned into a singles hitter and his average dropped to around ~.215. He’ll head to AA for the rest of the season to get back on track, likely getting a second crack at AAA in 2020. He’s still just 22 years old, but will have to prove his 2019 was a fluke. A definitively below-average defensive profile and lack of obvious position means he will have to hit his way to the majors.

Minor roster move - RHP Cody Carroll recalled from AAA Norfolk. Just a depth move to spell an overtaxed bullpen. RHP Yefry Ramirez optioned in the corresponding move.

                                Hello 'Chise guys..

I'm back but not with my Braves Franchise. I decided I wanted to be apart of a rebuild and I decided I wanted to bring a World Series ring to Seattle.

The state of our franchise is unknown right now as we have some guys who can/should play some good ball to keep us competitive. But on the flip side of that we do have a lack of talent in some areas, we have some bad/expiring contracts and our farm system is ranked one of the lowest in all of baseball.

First off, since doing a rebuild, I won't be playing a whole lot of games this year. I wanted to get to the draft, trade deadline and call ups to get a feel for what our future roster may hold.

I started by simming through the month of April. I figured this would give us a good grasp on whether or not we can think about contending and if we want to be buyers at the deadline.... And its evident we'll be selling A LOT at the deadline.

Our offense has been sub-par. A lot of our guys who should be playing well, are simply playing bad. Our rotation has actually been okay. Marco Gonzalez and Yusei Kikuchi have been more than serviceable. And Felix Hernandez is showing us why he was once the King. He has been dominant through this part of the season.

And then, welcome to the dumpster fire. Our bullpen has been downright dismal. We almost have more blown saves than total wins. It's bad.

Take a look at these stats yourself and disect.

Also, I ended up making it past the first year player draft, however I forgot to update the stats at the end of May, so I'll update them mid-june or end of June and re-post.

Let me know if there's anything you guys want to see, and what you think.
Future posts, I'm planning in additional stats (League leaders, possible trades, up and coming prospects)

                                thanks for following.
