Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread
Thinking about starting a new season as the Seattle Mariners but all the real players will be on the team they debuted with in the majors. Think it would be fun to kind of see what could have been for some teams. Plus really want Edwin Diaz back on the Mariners lolComment

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread
A bit between updates.
We are currently 19-13 on the year and sit one game behind the Pirates for the NL Central lead. We just finished a 3 game series with the Pirates, where we won the series. Next up is 4 games against the Braves.
We are still deciding what to do with Pham. He's been on a downslide, but did hit a walkoff grand slam in extra innings to beat the Pirates, but then we started him the following day and he goes 0 for 4 with 4 strikeouts. There is most definitely a market for him (Red Sox in particular) and if we were to move him we could tap into Boston's deep relief pitching for prospects to develop in our minor league systems, as the guys we have there now are unreliable. Outside of Zack Burdi at Memphis, there really isn't another reliever in our minors that I feel confident could pitch successfully at the major league level, and that bothers me. Pitching depth has always been a strength of our organization.
We are going to make a trade with the Reds involving minor leaguers (prosepcts)
Reds will get:
3B Drew Ellis (74 OVR - B Prospect - 24 yrs old)
Cardinals will get:
RP/CP Alan Hyde (67 OVR - A Prospect - 19 yrs old)
Drew Ellis can play both 3B/1B and the Reds are looking for depth at both positions. We worked with Ellis trying to develop him but he's been passed by Nolan Gorman and now Evan Mendoza at 3rd. At first we have Brendan McKay and Luken Baker.Last edited by countryboy; 04-26-2019, 08:02 AM.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread
I am currently running two different franchises. One is with my favorite team the Chicago Cubs and the other is with a young and surprising San Diego Padres teams.
My settings are as follow: I have ignore budgets on and force trades are off meaning only if the CPU agrees will a trade go through. I will be playing every pitch of each franchise. I play on hall of fame directional hitting and legend meter pitching. I will be using the full minors 19 roster with Mike Lowe's sliders.
I like to accumulate realistic stats but like my franchise as a whole play itself out and breathe on it's own so I will not be playing 30 team control.
With both San Diego and the Cubs having some great young talent, I will be playing all spring training games and taking the best 25 man roster into the regular season.
Also I will be looking to make some trades to maybe boost some weak areas of both teams. I will only make trades that the CPU will accept as I don't have trade override on.
Hoping that everyone has as much fun reading about these two franchises as I will writing about them. Really hoping to build a couple of dynasties here with these two teams.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread
My 2025 Cubs sit at 17-17 after the first week in May. Split a series with Montreal (I Moved the Nats back to "Montreal" for those wondering...basically just means they wear the 90's Expos jerseys") and have split the first 2 games with a really good SD team that in my Universe has had Machado for 4 years or so (Pretty cool when that sort of stuff works out.) Speaking of, Vlad Jr is on "Montreal" in my franchise so that's really cool as well.
Kris Bryant has rebounded big time from his early season slump in terms of OB and Slg, but his ave is still showing that slump. He's at .241 with 11 Hrs and 22 Rbi with a .375 OB.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread
game 1 vs reds in my pirates franchise.
As anticipated it was a low scoring pitching duel. I came out on top in a 1-0 game. Taillon went 5.0 3 BB 7 Ks and 5 hits then the bullpen came in and shut the door. It took a 4 out save to close the door as Vazquez was needed for the lefty on lefty matchups. The reds only tallied 9 hits and I was only able to get 8 but a timely double by polonco was the only RBI. Game 2 coming tonight as archer is on the mound.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread
A New GM out west!!
With a turn of events the San Diego Padres have fired their GM and hired Cody McBride in his place. Cody has already come in with a bang! As he has already made several transactions to blossom this already young exciting team.
The Padres held a press conference to announce Cody to the public. During the press conference McBride had this to say “ we have to find a way to blossom this pitching staff as well as save some money for the future, while there are some great players on this team. There is some players that just don’t fit the direction we are going and will ultimately be used as trade bait to acquire the players that do.” He went on to say “ players such as Wil Myers, Eric Hosmer, and Garrett Richards are heavy contracts that don’t fit the direction we are going, am I saying they are bad players? Not at all I am sampling saying they will be key pieces in deals that we want to complete.” As the press conference was coming to an end McBride had this last thing to say “ maybe we won’t win a world series in year one, but I promise you with all your faith and support we will be set up to make it to the promise land for many years to come. Who knows maybe this team in year one will surprise everyone!!”
Let the Wild Offseason Begin!!
As Cody had mention in the press conference the Padres would be extremely busy trying to acquire the players he felt was needed for the future.
He wouldn’t waste time as the Padres sent Joey Lucchesi, Ian Kinsler, and Wil Myers to the White Sox in exchange for highly trouted pitching prospect Michael Kopech.
The Padres would also acquire Adalberto Mondesi from the Royals in exchange for Garrett Richards and prospect Michel Baez. After these two trades hit the news, the Phillies came calling trying to acquire some top pitching prospects for their future. The call was answered as the Padres sent two A potential pitching prospects to the Phillies in exchange for bullpen sensation Seranthony Dominguez. Just when we thought that the Padres were done McBride had a few more moves up his sleeve. The biggest of which saw Eric Hosmer, Francisco Mejia, and Logan Allen go to the White Sox for the highly trouted outfielding prospect Eloy Jimenez. The Padres would also make a trade no one thought they would sending their number two prospect Luis Urias to the Chicago Cubs for Victor Caratini, Brailyn Marquez, and Adbert Alzolay. With shedding so much money off it gave the Padres the ability to sign elite close Craig Kimbrel to a 3yr/21mil contract to help solidify the bullpen.
Overall the Padres fans couldn’t be happier with the new moves that Cody has made and the impact he has already made.
Please stay tuned to see how spring training will shake out!2020 Chicago Cubs Franchise: A Windy City Story

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread
Fair enough!
First off, I'd sell off Melancon and Samardzija. The game actually values them, and, without being around my PS4, I'm pretty confident the return would be overwhelmingly positive, plus you'll get that money off the books to sign some other guys to fill holes. If you're not in a hurry, I'd probably move Cueto as well. I'm pretty sure you could get a couple of high potential mid 70's players (Maybe a pitcher and an outfielder?).
If you get rid of those guys, sign Keuchel and/or Kimbrel (They're both massively underpriced as FA's once you start your season, fill in some holes with some other veteran FA's, you'll end up having a boatload of money to chase the 2019 free agent class, which could have Gerrit Cole, Anthony Rendon, Marcell Ozuna, Scooter Gennett, Puig and Francisco Cervilli (Amongst others). Not as good as chasing Machado/Harper, but not too bad nonetheless.
Not realistic, but a pretty quick way to fix that team.
If you ever consider doing 30 team (It sounds scary, but it's actually super simple and you can do as much or as little as you want when it comes to controlling the other 29 teams), there's a great trade thread where realistic trades are discussed. https://forums.operationsports.com/f...iscussion.html
Well it’s been 3 years in my franchise and we have been World Series Champs every year. Got rid of all the big contract guys except Buster. Also had to bring Vlady to the Bay lolComment

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread
Wow. Just had one of the most heartbreaking losses of The Show 19 for me in my Yankees franchise vs the Mariners. Bottom of the 11th, losing 4-3. Cory Gearrin pitching for them. Bases loaded with 2 outs. Stanton batting. Stanton gets ahold of a pitch driving it between left and center but more towards the LF then the CF. Thought that was the walkoff as soon as it left the bat. The LF, running back towards the wall, ends up chasing it down catching it on the run at the edge of the warning track.
Such a crushing way to lose. Was supposed to be one of the greatest moments/games of The Show 19 for me but a few seconds later it ended up being one of the most heartbreaking ones.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread
After decades of drafting prospects and watching them develop, I’ve seen a lot of things. But I hadn’t ever seen a true generational-type talent. Even the best prospects were rated in the mid-70s, progressed a few points per year, and became stars after a few years in the bigs. Never saw someone in the A-Rod, Griffey, Harper, Trout mold. Never had a guy who was a bona fide star from such an early age, both in terms of ratings and production.
Finally, though, I found one.
Kyle Valencia, a first baseman drafted in the second round, began his career as a 75 overall, 95 potential 21-year-old.
After one year in the minors, he made the majors, where he hit .331 with 27 homers (.945 OPS), and at 22 years old, he’s now 90 overall.
I’ve drafted a lot of good players over roughly 50 years of mostly simmed franchises, including a guy in 2018 who likely will retire with 3,000 hits and 600 home runs if I ever go back and finish his career (may even push 700 if he plays long enough without declining; helps that as a DH he never misses a game). But every single one of those guys took a few years to reach real productivity.
I’m looking forward to five more years of a truly elite player on such a team-friendly deal.Comment

MLB the Show 19 - New York Yankees Franchise
OK giving this a shot. 30-team control, play every game, chronologically accurate up to Feb. 20, 2019. That means no big extensions after that date, though I will offer them in-game and I imagine most of them will be accepted. Sheesh ... the level of detail I’m getting down to in my “simulations” makes me think I should try out OOTP. I can’t let go of the actual gameplay in the show though.
The Yankees won 100 games in 2018 and somehow it felt like a down year. Of course Yankees fans will forever be the butt of jokes about ridiculous expectations and overreactions. But a first-round loss to the hated Red Sox, who would go on to win their 4th championship in 15 years, immediately erased any good feelings about the season.
Coming off of a Cinderella season in 2017 that saw our young “baby bombers” blossom into superstars and come within one win of the pennant, the Yankees were favored to win the 2018 World Series. Instead, an early-round exit proves there is still some work to be done to get back to the promised land. Second year manager Aaron Boone hasn’t completely won over a skeptical fanbase. Aaron Judge and Luis Severino have to stay healthy and play at a high level for a full season. Can Gary Sanchez return to form as a top slugger at a premium position, or will his shoddy defense and poor whiff totals derail his career?
The pressure of losing to Boston wasn’t enough to force the Yankees into a free agent spending frenzy a la mid-2000’s George Steinbrenner. The top free agent jewels, Manny Machado and Bryce Harper, drew only superficial interest from GM Brian Cashman. Instead, the team would bolster an already strong core through moderate contracts with DJ LeMahieu, Adam Ottavino, and J.A. Happ. The Yanks did pull off one blockbuster trade, shipping top pitching prospect Justus Sheffield to Seattle for “Big Maple” James Paxton.
2019 Spring Training
Paxton joins Severino, Happ, Tanaka, and CC Sabathia in the rotation. CC is two weeks behind schedule after recovering from two offseason surgeries, so a temporary 5th starter slot will be decided between Jonathan Loaisiga, Domingo German, and Luis Cessa. If any of the three pitch well enough, they could force their way to the Opening Day roster as an 8th bullpen arm / swingman.
The bullpen is basically set. Aroldis Chapman, Dellin Betances, Chad Green, Adam Ottavino, and Zack Britton will head north and are just in camp to get their work in. Jonathan Holder, Tommy Kahnle, and rookie Steven Tarpley will battle it out for the last 2 spots.
Behind the plate, all eyes are on Gary Sanchez as he sets out to prove he can stick behind the plate and regain his swing. Austin Romine and Kyle Higashioka will compete for backup catcher duties.
The infield is full of talent but also a lack of clarity as to who plays where. Starting shortstop Didi Gregorius will be on the shelf until around the All-Star break as he recovers from offseason Tommy John surgery. Troy Tulowitzki, signed to a veteran minimum contract after being released by the Jays, will be given the opportunity to prove he is healthy and in shape to win the job. If he isn’t, we could see Gleyber Torres slide back to shortstop where he played in the minors. DJ LeMahieu is primarily a second baseman but will be tried out at third and first as well the season. If Torres plays short, DJ will probably start at second.
Miguel Andujar mans third, but will have to show improved defense during camp. The club may prefer him as a DH, which again would leave third open for LeMahieu. Lots of decisions to make.
First base will be a competition between Luke Voit and Greg Bird. Many feel Bird is running out of chances to prove himself, especially if Voit can recapture any of the magic he displayed in the second half of 2018. Voit also has sub-par defense, so again we could see LeMahieu getting a decent share of reps at first.
The outfield is a bit easier to sort out. Judge in right, Hicks in center, and a left field competition between Gardner and Clint Frazier. Frazier is a candidate for a breakout in 2019 if he is healthy. Giancarlo Stanton is penciled in at DH, though the club feels his defense is stronger than Andujar’s and Voit’s so he could see more reps in the outfield this season. No surprise, Jacoby Ellsbury has yet to join the team as he undergoes physical therapy in Arizona for plantar fasciitis. His return remains uncertain.
The team should be very good this year. We can definitely win the division if things break right. Just a few minor roster tweaks to make, and allow everyone to get their at bats during spring training.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread
We finally snapped a 4 game losing streak by avoiding a 4 game sweep at home versus the Braves. We are 3 games behind the Pirates right now.
Injuries continue to mount as we've added Miles Mikolas (Elbow Strain) and Troy Tulowitzki (Back injury) to the 10 Day IL. Michael Wacha is on the 60 Day IL with Torn Pectoral
We recalled Corey Littrell from Memphis to try and give our bullpen another arm as they are gassed. We also recalled Yairo Munoz from Memphis to replace Tulo.
Next up is a 3 game series at home versus the Reds.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
