Cardinals finally win series. Take 2 of 3 from Angels

Cardinals have finally won a series taking 2 of 3 from the Angels in Busch. The Cardinals won the first two games before losing the series finale thus preventing them from earning the sweep. The Cardinals are now 5 games back of the Cubs for the 2nd wildcard spot. The Cards and Cubs will square off in a 4 game series in Chicago.

The best news of the Angels series was Patrick Wisdom finally getting his swing back. Wisdom was 4 for 6 with a homerun and 4 RBI's. He only played 2 games. Jon Singleton found his stroke again and so did Kolten Wong. The bullpen was solid in the series only allowing a single run and 3 hits.

    August Schedule:

    4 @ CHC
    3 @ NYM
    3 @ MIL
    3 vs SD
    3 vs MIA
    3 @ WSH
    3 vs CIN (game 3 Sept 1st)

So my 2 Memphis players that got injured in the PCL Championship game, DeJong and Sosa are magically not injured lol! No report or anything. Curious what everyone’s opinion is on how to properly (fairly) handle that. I’ve been very fortunate with injuries this year, only short minor injuries to anyone significant, a couple lengthy to minor leaguers. Should I manually injure them? Their season is essentially over and even my MLB Cardinals are winding down. Any opinions are welcome

I’d just go with the injuries weren’t as bad as initial reports appeared and maybe have them sit for a game as a precaution.

Yeah, kinda how I was leaning. More like just shutting them down for the year which would mean missing the Championship game and no September call up for the last week and a half. Which sucks lol. But probably the most realistic course of action. Hopefully the game at least let’s me call up replacements from Springfield for the Championship game though. Thanks for the input

Matheny, "The roster we had in April could've returned to the World Series"

Not even a week after the Cardinals front office issue an apology to the fans for the current state of the Cardinals due to roster moves, manager Mike Matheny didn't hold back any punches when speaking to the media after his club dropped the first two games of a pivotal 4 game series with the Cubs, thus following back to 6 1/2 games out of the wildcard.

When asked about the state of the Cardinals, who appear lifeless on the field honestly, in response to the front office public apology Matheny stated, "the roster we had in April could've returned to the World Series." When pressed to expand upon that thought, Matheny was hesitant, but finally just let his thoughts and emotions pour out:

"Like I said the team we had in April, the roster we broke camp with, they could've returned to the World Series this year. We got better, a lot better in the offseason. We filled needs perfectly without sacrificing almost anything. And now here we are in the stretch run with a team, that I don't know has the fight to get back into the playoffs. I'm not suggesting the team isn't talented, because they are, what I'm saying is that the balance on this team is off and we don't have the means of putting it back together this year. Not with who we have. Look..Ozzie Albies is a great player with amazing talent and the ability to be a Hall of Famer, but he doesn't fit this roster. The way our roster is structured, our SS is considered to be a power hitter that hits in the 6 slot. Albies doesn't really fit that mold. He's better served as a number 2 hitter, someone who can get on base, steal 30 bases a year and has occasional pop to hit 15 homeruns. He's like Kolten Wong, but we didn't need another Kolten Wong, we needed a Troy Tulowitzki, who we sent to Los Angeles. We needed a Tommy Pham who's in Los Angeles. We needed a Andrew Miller who's veteran presence in the bullpen was much needed, but now he's in Toronto. Matt Carpenter was the backbone, the face of this club, and he came back and we sent him to Oakland. We needed those guys, we were balanced with those guys and now they are gone. What we got in return isn't chop liver, but its not what we needed. We needed those guys for the balance of our club. We made those moves and then chased our tail trying to replace those guys with those guys. I don't get it. I really don't. Next question."

Matheny is still under contract for 2 more seasons after this, so it will be interesting to see what happens in the offseason with him and the roster.

6 weeks left in 2022..can this club balance itself to a 7th straight playoff appearance? Time will tell.

After scoring 4 runs in the first 2 innings and taking a 6-0 lead into the bottom of 6th, the Dodgers give one away to the Rockies who score 1, 3, and 3 in the in 6th thru 8th to steal a win. Maeda who has been a huge disappointment this season was on the hook for L after giving up the final 3 runs in the 8th.

Terrible way to lose a game. As soon as the Dodgers sat Kershaw who pitched 6 innings and had the Dodgers on top, Desmond, Dahl (2), and Iannetta rained HR’s on Floro and Maeda who pitched the final 2 innings.

After the game the Dodgers sent Maeda (5.74, 6-4) to AAA OKC and called up the lefty reliever Scott Alexander. Alexander is the only southpaw in the Dodgers bullpen with Rich Hill still on the IL for a few more days with a pulled groin.

Sucks man! I’m unfortunately all too familiar this year with the bullpen squandering absolute fantastic starts! Some of my starters are probably ready to go out there and start brawling! Gibson has had a hall of fame type career year but somehow only 10 wins with the season almost over!

Turmoil in St.Louis continues. Ozzie Albies placed on trade waivers

The turmoil and frustration within the front office, managerial staff, and players continues to mount as the Cardinals, not 24 hours after Matheny's statements, have placed "prized" acquisition Ozzie Albies on trade waivers. Obviously this is by no means a guarantee that Albies will be moved, but it appears this is the front office response to Matheny's comments to the media last night where he specifically mentioned Albies by name, saying he "doesn't fit with the current roster"

Ozzie Albies wasn't pleased with being "singled" out my his manager and took to social media to release his own comments, simply saying "if I don't fit, then trade me! #scapegoat".

Albies is under team control for one more season and was thought to be the shortstop of the future after Tulo was traded and due to DeJong's struggles. Now all of that could be falling apart at the seams.

Stay tuned folks...this could get ugly.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

I am now past labor day in my 2025 Cubs year. I currently sit at 84-56 and hold a 7.5 game lead on second place Cincy. 2025 is the year of offense and as I have remarked in the past really reminds me of steroid era baseball. I mean an era of 4 is actually good and the balls are just flying out of the parks.

The story of 2025 for me is Bryce Harper....I assumed that he would slow down because he is in his now year 32 season and was coming off his "weakest" year in 2024 (.265-37-114). This year he has been Ruthian to the tune of a .335 ave 55 homer runs, 145 rbis and a .750+ slug in 140 games. His attributes are a drastic split as he's 95 Con and Pwr vs Righties and 57 Con and 58 Pwr vs Lefties. His stats are split just as drastic as well. He's hitting .196 with 4 hrs vs lefties and a ridiculous .370 with 51 Hrs vs Righties. I'd imagine his slg vs R is well north of .850. Its the damnedest thing ive seen on the show. He just hasn't slumped and now I'm kinda looking forward to my first 60 hr year on the slow (Personal best is 57 with Bryant and Rizzo).

Speaking of KB, he's putting together a very good season that's really getting overshadowed by Harper. He's at .285 with 43 hrs and 109 knocked in. My Ryno clone Morgan Duran is also having an historic season power and speedwise. He's had five 30/30 years but this year he has just eclipsed the 40/40 mark. He's sitting at .268 with 42 hrs, 117 rbis and 41 steals. Ive got 22 games to go so I'm not giving up on a 50/50 seasons His average is 30 plus points off of his .300 lifetime ave but he's slugging a higher rate.

Like I said, this 2025 season feels very PEDish offensive-wise. In my prior 11 seasons I had a grand total of three 50 homerun years and currently I wouldn't be surprised to have a 60 homerun year and two 50 homerun year. Just incredible. If my pitching holds up, I'm thinking this will be my 6th title in 12 seasons.

Good ! Haha! I have my own opinion how I believe the Cardinals front office would squash that decisively, but my interest is definitely tweaked to see how an alternate universe would play out lol! Not to mention I can almost feel the collective anger and complaining at the water coolers and by the pundits! Great twist bro!

It’s a storyline that just almost never exists here in Cardinal Nation lol!

                            2019 Texas Rangers Fantasy Franchise

July 8: played the final 7 games leading into the All-Star Break. We started out horribly by getting swept in 4 games by the NOW 2nd place Angels at home. Our pitching was terrible allowing exactly 7 runs in every single game and our offense was just not enough to overcome it. We then traveled to Minnesota and took 2 out of 3 from the Twins. With much better pitching.

We head into the break in 1st place in the West, but our inconsistent play of late has made it a much closer race than it was for most of the year. We’re playing better on the road than at home which is a little concerning. We are sitting at 58-33 overall and both OAK and LAA are tied for 2nd at 53-39(5.5 behind).

Seems like more than half the team is on cold streaks. Hopefully some rest at the break will help us refocus and get it back together to looking like the 1st place team we are. Trout and Cruz were on fire going into the break, as well as Darvish who bounced back from a cold stretch with 3 really strong starts to finish up.

Carpenter sits at 37 HR on the year, but Cruz is hot on his tail with 35 now.

                              2019 Texas Rangers Fantasy Franchise

All Star Break: We were represented by 5 players in the All-Star game and with 4 players in the Derby. Springer and Carpenter were eliminated in the first round and Cruz beat Pederson in the semis to face off vs Stanton in the finals. After eliminating Judge in the semis, Stanton put up 13 in the finals and Cruz ran just short on time ending up with 12.

Our players did very well in the ASG despite the AL being defeated 9-6 by the NL. Carpenter homered twice(Kershaw/Price) and Cruz and Springer each homered once. Jeffress pitched a scoreless inning in relief.

We come out of the break with 6 games at home vs HOU and ARI before heading out on a long 10 game road trip.IMG_1174.JPG
