Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

First Year Player Draft - 2021
So 2021 season has not been good to us at all. 20-43. Dead last in the Central, AL, and MLB. We aren't good at home. We aren't good on the road. Doesn't matter if its a day game or a night game. We just plain suck. The Yankees lead the AL with a 45-16 record. Dodgers top the NL at 37 and 24 with the Giants at 23-39 as the worst NL team.
Injuries
Offense
When you see a .317 winning percentage you tend to think the offense is pretty bad. And you wouldn't be wrong. We are 28th with a .239 AVG, dead last in OBP at .298. And 27th in SLG % at .377. 29th in Runs with 206 and dead last in Walks with 174.
Ryan O'Hearn has the highest OPS on the team at .796 and its the lowest og his career so far. Only 4 other players are over .700. He also leads the team in Hits, Home Runs, and OBP. Jorge Bonifacio has been the most disappointing player so far putting up a .623 OPS with 4 HR in 180 AB. Although Salvador Perez with his .262 OBP isnt much better.
Pitching
Again a .317 winning percentage probably means a pretty bad pitching staff as well and that's absolutely the case here. 26th in ERA at 4.41. No Complete Games. Only 3 Shutouts, Most hits allowed with 642, 26th in HR allowed with 86, and 2nd to last in Strikeouts with 447. We are top 5 in Walks allowed though so thats nice....
We do have a few bright spots in the rotation. Brady Singer has picked up where he started at the end of last year putting up a 2.85 ERA in 72.2 IP. And leads the team in HR/9 at 0.74. Somehow Heath Fillymer has turned out to be our best starter so far this season. Leads the team in ERA at 2.48, WHIP at 1.0,7 and WAR at 1.5. Erick Skoglund came up to replace Keller and struggled at first but has been good over his last 3 starts giving up just 3 runs in 18 IP. He has an ERA of 3.51 with a 1.39 WHIP in 41 IP. And then there is everyone else. Duffy has the next best ERA at 4.61. Keller was over 6 before his injury. Junis was sent to AAA after putting up an 8.26 ERA in 40 Iinnings. Andres Machado took his spot after putting up an ERA of 1.61 in 44.2 IP down in AAA. He has proceeded to give up 19 runs with 5 HR in 18 innings here in the majors.
The Bullpen has had some mixed results. Rule 5 Pick Yacksel Rios leads the way with a 2.10 ERA in 25.2 IP. Josh Staumont has 14 saves in 17 tries with a 3.18 ERA. And Richard Lovelady has a 3.55 ERA in 33 IP. Idk why ben Lively is still on the team with his 6.11 ERA in 45 IP. Tim Hill was sent to aAA after putting up an 8.31 EA in 9.2 IP.
Draft
I'll probably end up simming the rest of the season unless we somehow go on a magical run.

Injuries
Spoiler
We have dealt with quite a few injuries all through the organization. It started with Mondesi going down on March 31st. Just 5 games into the season. He tore a finger ligament and missed the next 45 games returning on May 20th. 3 weeks later we lost Drew Waters to a broken hand and Brad Keller to a Shoulder Tear in the same game. Both are still on the 60 day IL. Waters has missed 38 games so far and will miss another dozen or so. And Keller should return just before the All Star break. The injuries weren't over there. On May 3rd Erick Mejia joined the IL after suffering a broken leg. He has missed 28 games with another dozen to go before he returns. And to finish it off Michael Gigliotti hit the IL 4 days later thanks to another Shoulder Tear. He was mainly a backup OF at the time but had hit 4 HR in his first 38 AB. Things are just as bad down in the minors with 7 players currently on the IL and 2 more having just come off last week.

Draft
Spoiler
We are pretty deep with pitching down in the minors so our main focus was on hitters going into the draft. Our offense sucks and a lot of the prospects down in the minors aren't doing all that great. Wanted to continue the trend of finding guys that were close to Majors to help us out as soon as possible.
With the 7th pick in the draft we took 19 year old SS Rodney Merchant. 6'5'' 213 Lbs. Already our best option defensively at SS. Strong enough arm to move to 3B if we need him to. Should hit 30+ HR with ease while putting up an AVG around .275. In 3 years an infield of Witt Jr at 3rd, Merchant at SS and Mondesi at 2B could dominate the league... ETA - Late 2022 - 2023
In the 2nd round, we picked up 18 year old LF Andy Castro. Much more of a project than Merchant but some of the tools could end up being similar. Good power and fielding thanks to his ability to get great reads off the bat. His arm is basically nonexistent. Has some speed and good instincts on the base paths as well. Needs to work on his discipline a bit but could be a .250 AVG guy with 25+ HR and 20 SB... ETA - 2024
We had a comp pick between the 2nd and 3rd which allowed us to grab 21 year old 2B Peter Myers. Probably the most major league ready guy we picked up. Pretty solid all around while not doing anything spectacularly. Might hit a dozen or so HR with a .280+ AVG. Not gonna steal a ton of bases or win a Gold Glove. Probably more of a backup in the future if things go well for our other prospects. ETA - Late 2022 - 2023
In the 3rd we took 22 year old RF Luis Moya. Not a great fielder but has the arm to stick in RF as well as the bat. 20 Home Runs should be easy with an AG between .250 and .275. Can probably get 15-20 SB as well and has great durability... ETA - 2023 - 2024.
With our 5th pick we grabbed 20 year old catcher Tim Conway. With Salvador Perez most likely being gone after this year we needed to add some depth at catcher. Not a high potential guy but could hit .275 with 10-15 HR and solid defense behind the plate. Will most likely end up as the backup in a few years if Kurt Bowles ends up panning out. ETA - 2024.
With our 6th pick we took our only pitcher. 20 year old RP Henry Torres. He throws fast. And that's about it. Upper 90's on his 4 Seam and Cutter. Also throws a Curve, Change and a Slider. He doesn't do a lot well right now. And he probably wont in the future. ETA - 2026 if ever.
And with our last pick in the draft we selected 20 year old CF Chris Doe. Projects to be more of a LF but has great speed and reaction out in center. Just doesnt have a great arm. With the bat he should hit over .250 but will be lucky to push 10 HR. ETA - 2025.
