    BREAKING NEWS!

Apr 12th - After the Mariners 14 inning win last night that saw starting pitcher Wade LeBlanc struggle once again to make it to the 4 inning. The 35 yr old LeBlanc was informed that he was being sent down to AAA Tacoma.LeBlanc who is in the first year of a two year deal has struggled in his first 3 starts. Failing to make it past 4 innings in his outings this year. LeBlancs line so far:

Sources close to the team say that even if LeBlanc seems to find his way again during his stint in the minors that the club will most likely look to move the veteran pitcher prior to the trade deadline.

Cardinals and Twins split 2 game series

The Cardinals and Twins split their brief two game series in Minnesota, which each team putting a whoppin' on the other.

The Twins won game one of the series 12-2 as for the second time in as many starts since returning from the IL, Jack Flaherty was lit up and didn't get past the 4th inning. Flaherty was tagged with 9 hits, 8 ER in just 4 1/3 innings. He finished with 0 strikeouts and 2 walks. The offense was stagnant for the Cardinals only yielding 2 runs on 4 hits, with one of those runs coming off a wild pitch by Shane Carle in the 9th inning.

Game 2 was a different story with the Cardinals jumping on the Twins early in route to a 10-1 win. Austin Gomber took the mound for the departed Luke Weaver and was pitching on just 3 days rest from his last minor league start. Still Gomber was good, if not great considering the circumstances. Gomber got thru 5 innings giving up 1 run on 6 hits, while fanning 5. He did walk 2 and hit a batter.

Brendan McKay was the catalyst for the offense going 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and a single. Kike Hernandez in his team debut since being acquired from Oakland, went 2 for 3 with a double and 4 RBI's. Patrick Wisdom hit his 19th and 20th homeruns of the season.

The Cardinals are off tomorrow before heading home to St.Louis to host the A's for 3 games at Busch stadium for Father's Day weekend.

Cardinals to sit Albies for Oakland series

Mike Matheny has told the media that struggling SS Ozzie Albies will be moved to the bench for the upcoming Oakland series. Whether this is a permanent move, which is highly doubtful, or just an attempt to give the young star a chance to step away for a moment in an attempt to get out of his season long slump, was not made immediately known by the manager.

Ozzie Albies is entering mid-June with an average of .201, with 7 homeruns and 21 RBI's. Albies average when May ended was around .196 so he has improved in the month of June, but his struggles have been noted several times over the course of the season. Not only is Albies having a rough time at the plate, but he's also committed 7 errors thus far, which is 2 more than he committed all of last year.

The Cardinals signed Albies to a 5 year deal worth $18M per year in the offseason, despite the turmoil that surrounded him and Matheny last year when Matheny made a comment that Albies doesn't fit this organization. The two later discussed the comment, which Matheny says was more about the front office's constant roster movement, and was not a shot at Albies and his talent, and made peace. Now with Matheny again speaking to the media in regards to Albies, one has to wonder if their will once again be turmoil surrounding the Cardinals clubhouse.

It's not known yet who will start at SS for the Cardinals for the series, although many suspect it will be Yairo Munoz.

          GRAND FINALE

This inaugural 2019 season finally comes to a head in a winner takes all decisive game 7 at Wrigley Field! No more tomorrows. Somebody will leave as Champs and somebody will have to try again next year after getting as close as possible, one win short!

The Astros would get things started in the top of the 2nd with a sac fly from Chirinos scoring Bregman putting Houston up 1-0 early.

          IMG_1172.jpg

Then in the bottom of the 3rd the Cubbies would tie things up when Williams would double scoring Descalso all the way from 1st making it 1-1

          IMG_1173.jpg

          IMG_1174.jpg

          IMG_1175.jpg

Top of the 5th Prior began showing signs of possible fatigue from his heavy load throughout this postseason including pitching on short rest here. After getting Altuve to ground out he proceeded to walk Jackson then Bagwell

          IMG_1176.jpg

Then Correa who’s had a tremendous series roped a single to left scoring Jackson and moving Bagwell to 2nd, putting the Stros back on top 2-1

          IMG_1177.jpg

          IMG_1178.jpg

          IMG_1179.jpg

Then after walking Bregman, Prior would get Springer to ground into a double play to end the inning before major damage was done.

That’s how the score would stay headed to the later innings

          IMG_1180.jpg

With the score still 2-1 heading to the bottom of the 9th, Houston brings in Wagner to close it out

          IMG_1181.jpg

Williams hit a ground ball deep in the hole to the left side that a diving Correa barely got a glove on but could only knock it down giving Williams a single

          IMG_1182.jpg

Then Banks would work a walk

          IMG_1183.jpg

          IMG_1184.jpg

Sanchez flied our to Marisnick in very shallow right keeping the runners where they were at 1st and 2nd with 1 out

          IMG_1185.jpg

Haniger was then called out on strikes looking at a questionable pitch up and in prompting an immediate response of boos from what sounded like the entire Chicago metropolitan area!

2 on 2 out, bottom of the ninth down by 1, the Cubs send Contreras to hit for the pitcher!

          IMG_1186.jpg

Contreras works the walk loading the bases with 2 outs and Baez coming up! This is as big as it gets folks!

          IMG_1187.jpg

          IMG_1188.jpg

Then in a move that shocked absolutely everybody and will be talked about for eternity, the Cubs attempt a suicide squeeze, but Baez couldn’t square it cleanly and just clipped the bottom of the ball for a very week pop up straight back that Chirinos made a diving catch on ending the game, series and season in the most controversial way ever.

I apologize for the long delay posting that. I’ve had a crazy month that included a hospital stay and a broken phone. I’m already well into April of the 2020 season but will post the most relevant offseason moves (and they were crazy as anticipated lol) but then plan on just doing monthly updates. That was a fun season and I hope my Cardinals will be participating in the the 2020 playoffs to add to the excitement. I personally still have not yet made the playoffs with any of my franchises so I was kind of aggressive this off season to field a team “I” wanted to field! Can’t wait to catch you all up

Marlins come back down to earth Vs Mets.

After sweeping the Rockies in a 4-game set ... the Marlins have come back to earth Vs the Mets dropping the opening two games at home.

Marlins 3 def by Mets 4

              WP - Matz
              LP - Urena
              Sa - Lugo (3)

Marlins 4 def by Mets 6

              WP -Gsellman
              LP - Smith
              Sa - Lugo (4)

The Marlins dominated this game. 6 sterling innings from Caleb Smith and the Marlins cling to a one run lead.

With only 83 pitches thrown entering the 7th inning, it was a no brainer to keep Smith in the game. He immediately struck out Lageres before walking Hechavarria. Pinch hitter Roasario then snuck an infield single after the ball couldn't be dealt with smoothly by Castro, bouncing off his glove. Still, the hit was awarded as an infield single.

This turned the lineup over for the Mets with leadoff McNeill coming the plate and hammering a slider away and out of the zone for a line drive down the 3rd baseline, putting the Mets up 2-1.

The Marlins called Guerrero from the Bullpen to face Conforto who crushed the first pitch fastball (low & away) over the FR Wall.

Mets take a 4-1 lead. Tanner Scott back from his strained oblique was called upon, immediately walking Cano, which brought the big bat of Pete Alonso to the plate. 2 out, 1 on 2-2 count and Alonso crushes a ball to deep centre field and over the 407ft wall.

Mets on a 6-run inning take a 6-1 lead into the bottom of the 8th where Starlin Castro hammered a 2-run longball to set up a save situation for Lugo.

Lugo gave up 2 hits in nervy save before making the final out, a deep fly ball back to the warning track by PH Pete Obrien, which would have tied the game had been 2 feet longer.

The rubber game in the series is tonight.

              NL - East
              Mets 4-1
              Marlin 4-2
              Atlanta 4-2
              Phillies 2-3
              Nats 2-3

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

The end of the regular season is approaching quickly with only 8 games remaining. After taking 2 of 3 in Detroit, 2 of 3 in Toronto, and then sweeping the Angels in 3 in the Bronx the Yankees now sit at 112-42.

                Highlights of that stretch:
Jose Bautista walks and hits solo HR in 2 final games in Toronto.

MadBum roughed up for first time as a Yankee.
You knew it was going to happen eventually, but Bumgarner’s streak of dominant performances has come to an end against LAA. He was chased after just 4 innings giving up 5 runs. Luckily his teammates were able to give him a hand, as we went on to win 7-5. He still has yet to lose a game as a Yankee.

                Tyler Beede’s Yankee debut
After being acquired in the Aaron Hicks trade Beede quickly made himself a guy to watch at AAA. In his first start he held Detroit to 2 runs through 6 innings. In his second and likely final start of 2019 he held Toronto to 2 runs through 5 innings. A guy to watch in ST next season.

Gio Urshela is day to day with an inflamed hip he sustained about a week ago.
Judge has woken up at the plate from a bit of a slump.

                Remaining Schedule:
3 Vs Toronto then off day
2 @ Tampa then off day
                3 @ Texas

                News:
Can The Yankees Shatter 2001 Mariners 116 Wins Record?
8 games to go. They need 4 wins to tie it. 5 to take it. It’s certainly doable considering 6 of those are against the 100 loss Blue Jays and 66 Win Rangers. Likely a pretty soft final stretch of games. There’s a bit of room for error. The Yankees have a real shot at history, let’s see if they can get it done.

                AL Wild Card Update:
The AL WC is currently a battle between the Astros and Angels for the top spot.
They are tied. The Rays and Red Sox have slipped to 3 games out. Oakland has a strong grip on the West with a 5 game lead.

NL WC Update: This is a 3 way battle between the Dodgers, Phillies, and Mets. The Dodgers nearly have the top spot locked up. Mets sit a game behind Philly for the second spot. So, whoever claims the second spot is likely playing for the chance to face Kershaw in LA for a win or go home game. Nats lead the East by 5 games.

                Dodgers Rallying In The West:
The Rockies have hit a late season slump going 3-7 in their last 10 and LA has taken full advantage catching fire and winning 10 in a row. The Rockies lead is down to just 4 games. For LA, they have a huge opportunity to avoid a WC game. The slumping Rockies are arriving to LA fresh off being swept at home by the Mets for a crucial 3 game series. This series will play a big role in deciding the division.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Discussion Thread

Boy have I hit a rough patch recently in my Phillies Franchise. I play every pitch of every game. After starting the season 18-11 in March/April, we are currently 7-7 in the month of May. The pitching has just completely fallen apart in this month. I had to option BOTH Jerad Eickhoff (5.34 ERA) and Zach Eflin (6.35 ERA) to Triple-A. They were getting shelled. Jake Arrieta hasn't been great either. He is 4-1 but his ERA currently is 5.44. I called up Nick Pivetta and Cole Irvin to replace Eickhoff and Eflin. Pivetta has struggled as well to the tune of an 8.22 ERA in 3 starts.

I need to figure something out. My bullpen has been taxed. Especially during my last 4 game series with the Brewers. I'll get to that shortly. Through 14 games in May, we have pitched 122 2/3 innings and allowed 144 hits, 34 walks, and 80 earned runs for an ERA of 5.89. Brutal. Pitching staff has also struck out 96 in that span.

The bullpen has been awful this month. They have pitched 54 1/3 innings and allowed 50 hits, 15 walks, and 31 earned runs for an ERA of 5.15. Bullpen has 46 strikeouts in that span. I had to option lefty Adam Morgan (7.27 ERA) to Triple-A. He's allowed 33 hits and 14 earned runs in 17 1/3 innings pitched. Ouch.

Cole Irvin has earned another start after his big league debut but I have now started looking to the trade market to acquire help.

So onto my last series which was 4 games against the Brewers at home. I lost 3 games in the series, the last two of which were absolute slugfests. They outscored us 32-20 in the series.

                  Game 1: Lost 5-2
                  Game 2: Won 3-2
                  Game 3: Lost 14-9
                  Game 4: Lost 11-6

Christian Yelich absolutely destroyed me in the series going 10 for 18 (.555) with 2 doubles, 5 home runs, and 11 RBI. One of those games was a 3 homer game for him.

The pitching has to get better. Our lead in the division is shrinking. We only have a 2 game lead now as the Mets have won 6 straight and 8 of their last 10 and are hot on our trail. Meanwhile we have lost 7 of our last 10.

Oh the ebbs and flows of baseball!

Call up an extra starter and roll 2 long relievers for a minute just to get your energy back in line. Just a suggestion but it’s worked for me in the past and fatigue really does screw with your pitchers effectiveness. Good luck bro

June and July have passed which means teams have completed their final transactions to make the push for the playoffs. This year, the trade deadline was fairly quiet as only a few minor deals were completed on the final day.

With that being said, my Astros made a trade on July 15 after we lost an important bullpen piece for the remainder of the season (Joe Smith, torn rotator cuff). In the deal we sent Tony Kemp to Detroit for Shane Greene. Detroit is clearly in rebuild mode and they lack a true 2nd baseman prospect that can grow. While Kemp has struggled in an Astros uniform this season, he still has good potential that the Tigers could take advantage of. Shane Greene obviously fills a hole for us in the bullpen.

We were also looking to get a utility man because Aledmys Diaz fractured his wrist which could hold him out for up to two months. We looked into getting Chris Taylor from the Dodgers but we couldn't make it work because it didnt make sense for the Dodgers to help out another contending team. We also tried to get Chad Pinder from the Athletics, but considering they are only 4.5 games out of the Wild Card spot we would have needed to give up some major league talent. That didnt make sense to us. So our 1 trade was all we completed.

Around the league it was fairly quiet, like I said, but there were two interesting trades. The Giants acquired Ian Kinsler from the Padres for Brandon Crawford. The Padres are 5.5 games out of the NL Wild Card spot, but the Giants are 7 games out of the same spot. I guess the Giants are giving in and trying to shed salary.

The other interesting trade was between the Twins and Dodgers. The Dodgers got Jose Berrios for Julio Urias and Alex Verdugo. This trade made the Dodgers rotation arguably the best in baseball as Berrios is currently 8-5 with a 2.87 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. The Twins get two great young pieces for one. I thought it was a great deal.

On a team note, we are currently 67-42 which puts us 5 games ahead of the Mariners. It also gives us the best record in the AL, and 2nd best in baseball (behind the Dodgers at 74-36... good lord). Now that the transactions are done, it's time to find a way to make sure our team is playing well at the right time for the playoffs.

I stomped a hole in the Reds and walked it dry!

It wasn't an offensive barrage in the sweep, but my starting pitching was on point.
                        Game 1: Siroka 6.0IP 0ER, 5k 2BB, I won 5-4.
                        Game 2: Newcomb 8.0IP 0ER 7k BB, I won 2-1.
Game 3: Teheran 7.0IP ER 4k 0BB, my offense chased there starter Descalfani in first inning 5ER. He did not record an out. That was my first time doing that. I won the game 7-3. Also I hit the first home run with Freddie Freeman. I hoping that they will come in bunches.

Teheran & Newcomb has been pitching there butts off in their last 2 starts. Keeping me from making the Keuchel addition. I am currently leading the east by 2.0 over the Nats, record is 17-8.

                          ST LOUIS CARDINALS

The Redbirds didn’t have a terrible inaugural season in this league, but there were a couple areas that consistently caused issues and never did get worked out. Management made up their minds well before the end of the 2019 season actually, that the Cardinal organization deserves to be properly represented to the best of their abilities as one of “THE BEST” ever, sparing no affordable expense! The belief is that the Cardinals should be included in the conversations of which teams should at least be favorites on paper, and a team nobody looks forward to playing. So what were the holes, and how would they be best addressed?

                          1: Lack of power bats

St Louis was at the top of the league all year in BA and hits, but at the total bottom of all main power categories. This could not be overlooked. The goal was not necessarily to completely change the identity of the team, (because constant men on base creates all kinds of opportunities and disrupts opponents games in countless ways). But at least add some consistent extra base gap power that can bring those runs in instead of stranding them without yielding any run support.

                          2: 2nd and 3rd base positions

All season long the Cards shuffled different players and combinations between these spots trying to find a proper fix. Hornsby wound up playing the majority of the season at 3rd, and only a fraction of the year at his natural position 2nd base. He never looked comfortable there however frequently bobbling balls, and really didn’t have the arm a 3rd baseman should have. Pujols spent time there as well but the story was very similar to Rogers as Albert is best served at 1st. Wong was fantastic defensively at 2nd for a nice chunk of time and was an on base machine for that spell as well. But when the bat cooled off he found himself back in Memphis. Gyorko and Carpenter spent their time shuffling through those positions as well but again, the theme remained the same as nothing ever manifested as a reliable lineup.

                          3: Pitching

As a whole, pitching was the absolute strong point for the Cardinals. On top of the league in ERA all year and finished first in team WHIP. Andrew Miller received the Rolaids award for best relief pitcher. Setup guys Sutter and Hicks were fantastic, and John Gant emerged as a dominant middle reliever mid season. Gibson, Micholas and Martinez were solid starters all year, but those 4th and 5th starters never really emerged. And the rest of the middle relief was always a mystery as to how they’d perform any given day. So as good as the staff was, the postseason teams showed just how important an absolute complete staff can be towards a championship run!

4: What to do about Centerfield

Lou Brock patrolled center almost all year, occasionally sharing time with Ozuna. Brock was fantastic defensively with the amount of ground he could cover, but not the strongest throwing arm. He also hit well over .300 with a knack for those clutch hits. Again no real power to speak of, and at 36 not exactly the base-stealing monster we all remember. Still a legitimate threat but Ozzie left him in the dust. So with his contract up, how do they approach that situation?

*LIST OF MOVES MADE BY THE CARDINALS *

                          Don Mattingly as Head Coach:

First order of business was to nail down a skipper. Mattingly seemed a perfect candidate to bridge the old and new school varieties within this new style of franchise so a 2 year agreement was reached.

                          IMG_1201.jpg

The Cardinals wasted zero time going after Joe Torre. Having put together a list of desirable players to pursue and lengthy discussions that began early last season, Torre clearly rose to the top of that list. Being that his contract with Atlanta was expiring, and they had no real need or intention of getting him any significant playing time, he was quickly excited about the opportunity to return to St Louis as an everyday vital piece of the team. He obviously solves the 3rd base dilemma allowing Hornsby to return to his proper position at 2nd, and Pujols could return to first primarily. Torre also addresses the power need. So the Cards would nail him down as top priority!

                          IMG_1202.jpg

Edmonds was another highly regarded Cardinal family member that seemed to be a favorite in discussions and just kept coming up in every conversation. He was clearly not happy with his situation in Anaheim and also excited by the thought of a return to St Louis. With Torre seemingly solving the infield issues, bringing in Edmonds as the no doubt everyday centerfielder, (at a bargain price of 507k/ yr), this would solve the Brock issue before it even started. If Brock would agree to a 1 year deal he could serve as backup to everyone in the outfield plus get spot starts. He would not come cheap though, but the Cardinals used the opportunity to unload some major contract obligations that would no longer be necessary. Ozuna was obvious. With Hornsby back at 2nd Wong would have been sent to Memphis most likely, but will be the everyday starter for the Angels. And with Pujols free to play 1st, Goldshmidt was tough to part with but acceptable to obtain the CF the franchise desired over all others.

                          IMG_1203.jpg

Having parted ways with Goldy, there was yet one more player on that wishlist that now made a little more sense. Keith Hernandez would provide another left handed bat and insurance for an extremely important position.

                          IMG_1204.jpg

Luck landing the Pitchers the Redbirds had sights on was not as fruitful and as it was getting later in the offseason focus turned to addressing that area. Turning to a deal with the devil (Cubs haha), The Cardinals worked out a deal for another ex family favorite, Lee Smith. Sending Jose Martinez and Paul DeJong along with top young prospect Isaiah Meadows in return.

                          IMG_1205.jpg

Last the Cardinals really wanted to add at least 1 more quality starter, so they took a chance signing 37yo Warren Spahn to a 1 year 7.3 mil dollar deal.

They also finally did agree to a 2 year deal with Brock and also signed FA David Freese who will most likely be in Memphis to start

In my opinion this was an extremely well played offseason that does seem to put them in those “on paper” favorites conversations they were hoping to be in

Marlins Avoid Sweep Vs the Mets, and then take game one over the Braves with a win 1-0

With Alcantara taking the mound against deGrom I wasn't overly hopeful of avoiding the sweep Vs the Mets.

But the Marlin bats jumped all over deGrom in the 1st inning, and with a 1-out, bases loaded advantage, all the Marlins could muster was a sac fly hit by Darth Bader to deep centre.

The Marlins would hold the 1-nil advantage until the the top of the 9th when Romo managed to load the bases before striking out the final two batters for his league tying 4th save of the season.

Next up was a trip to Georgia.

Where Trevor Richards came within one, single out from a perfect game. The Mets bought in pinch hitter McCann for the final out and on a 2-2 pitch he softly lined a ground ball down the 3rd baseline ... but with the shifted infield, a regulation out from third, suddenly became a single.

The Braves were just swinging at everything Richards (74 Stamina), and after 7 innings, Richards had only thrown 55 pitches.

So far in two starts Richards has:

                            15IP 5H 0BB 0R 10SO 0.00ERA

His luck is going to run out at some point though. He's given up a lot of hard hit balls, but luckily it's been straight to fielders.

On a personal note, that's the closest I've ever come to a perfect game in about 8 odd years of the playing the Show. From memory, I threw a no-no with Josh Beckett in like 2011 or so... lol

Playoff baseball is only 5 games away. After dropping 2 out of 3 to the Jays in the Bronx, the Yankees hit the road to end off the season.
                              Remaining Schedule:
                              2 @ Tampa
                              3 @ Texas

Toronto dealt a major blow to our chances at history by quickly handing us 2 of the 3 losses we can suffer and still secure the wins record. Our play now has to be near perfect in the final 5 games. Record is now at 113-44.

                              Urshela returned from the IL.

                              News:
Rays Crumble At Worst Possible Time
The wheels have come off in Tampa as the Rays have dropped 9 games in a row, sinking their WC hopes. Most recently they lost 4 straight at the hands of the rival Red Sox.

                              Angels Fall Apart
What a difference a week makes. Only a week ago, LA found themselves in good position to secure a wild card spot. Then they lost 6 straight, 3 to NYY, 3 to the Astros. They now trail by 2 games for the top spot and are locked in a battle for the second spot....

                              Red Sox Surging
Boston has won 7-3 and 5 straight. In a key 4 game set with the Rays, they dismantled their rivals burying them and keeping their own WC hopes alive with a 4 game sweep. Thanks to us and Houston handing LAA 6 straight losses, the door has been busted wide open for them to slip in via a WC spot. They sit 2 games behind Houston for the top spot and are tied with LA for the second spot.
                              Boston’s remaining Schedule?
                              3 @ Texas
                              3 Vs Baltimore.
It doesn’t get much easier then that. It would be shocking if Boston finds a way to mess this up.
