Re: MLB The Show Trade Discussion Thread

Looking towards the trade deadline assuming my Blue Jays are contending I will be looking for upgrades. Here are a few aims of mine. Could someone maybe let me know what type of prospect capital I would have to move?

    1) Cubs: Either Bryant or Contreras + Arrieta

    2) Rockies: Jon Gray + Desmond or Cron

    3) Diamondbacks: Escobar + a starting pitcher

    - more targets will come about later in the season as rebuilders / contenders start to shape up. I am open to suggestions on other potential options there may be.

My needs are SP, RP, 3B, bench bat vs LHP. I wouldn’t be opposed to getting a veteran catcher as well.

1)For Bryant, Hiraldo+Kloffenstein seems like a reasonable deal. Arieta seems like he could just be thrown in. If he's having a decent season, toss in a low level lotto ticket for him.

2)Rikelvin de Castro+Kloffenstein for Gray should work. Cron is worth like $2.2 mil, so you could change it to Hiraldo+D'Orazio (I wouldn't trade Hiraldo for two so/so rentals).

      3) Escobar has a very small negative value. Add Luke Weaver to him, and you could probably just do the Cubs deal.

What's a realistic trade to bring Wilson Contreras to DC?

Re: MLB The Show Trade Discussion Thread

This one is for fellow Phillies fans/chise guys. By now, it's apparent that the lack of organizational depth in the high minors is killing this team. The roster is so top-heavy with Harper, Realmuto, Hoskins, Nola, and Wheeler, but the remainder of the 40-man is painfully weak.

I don't foresee this team having the depth to survive the attrition of a modern MLB season. The roster is so inflexible that there's essentially no tradeable assets.

So...how do you infuse talent and depth into the system?

            Trade Nola.

Here's one I kicked around with the Tribe:

            SP Zach Plesac
            3B Nolan Jones
            OF Daniel Johnson
            SP/RP Juan Carlos Mejia
            RP Robert Broom

I would also deal from our catching stockpile (likely Rafael Marchan to go with Nola).

Jones is Cleveland's top prospect, but he's blocked by Jose Ramirez. With the DH almost certainly coming to the NL in 2022, you can plug Jones in as an above-average defender at third, slide Bohm across the diamond (he's awful at third), and move Hoskins into a primary DH role. Plesac would slot it as an innings-eating mid-rotation starter. Johnson might be only a 4th outfielder, but he's a plus defender and the Phillies desperately need defensive upgrades all over the diamond. Mejia is an up-and-down guy who could spot start or eat bulk innings. Broom is a boom/bust single inning relief arm who lit Double A on fire in 2019 as a 23-year old, but he's barely inside the Cleveland top 40 (per FanGraphs).

That’s for that!! I don’t mind trading Hiraldo as the farm is plentiful. I’ll add these to my spreadsheet and keep an eye on them for the rest of the year.

The main reason why I would be against this is that it seems very "un-Cleveland". Nola is obviously the gem of the trade, and his surplus value is obviously really high. Coming off his season last year though, I don't see how Cleveland, a team with a notoriously tight budget, moves a guy like that, especially with that many years of cheap service time left. Remember-They just traded away their defacto ace last season when they were still competitive. For Jones, I don't really see him being blocked by Ramirez.

If you were Cleveland, would you trade your top prospect, who's pretty much MLB ready (29th overall on MLB.com's top 100), your bonified #2 SP, plus a few other cheap prospects for a slight upgrade, while also sprinkling in some other guys? Just seems like a really, really weird move after dealing Clevinger last year.

If Lewis does that, sure, he could be a trade candidate, but right now I don't see any realistic reason why the Mariners would consider moving him.

I didn't say he was unavailable. I said its not likely and would cost a fortune.

Nats farm isn't great, so you're likely giving up a couple of top 5 guys and a lotto ticket. This might work:

                      Cubbies: Contreras
                      Nats: Cole Henry+Yasel Atuna+Tim Cate?

We're off to a good start this year. Lots of good advice shared so far and a couple of solid trades settled on.

Nelson Cruz and Josh Donaldson will be retiring soon. Going to move one of myany Minnesota outfielders to 3rd base. What kind of move would I need to make to get Ramon Laureano to Minnesota. I'm fighting for the Division in 2021 and Oakland is about 4 games back of the wild card going into the all star break. I'm willing to wait till the offseason, just preparing for the future.

The majority of people on these threads are just looking for helpful advice, or a different perspective. If there are 2-3 people who pop in (Out of 146 posts) to brag about ripping off the worst CPU trade engine in sports gaming, so be it. Probably more cordial to say "Hey dude, that doesn't work, but this might...".

Definitely appreciate the time and effort that you and Gamecockslaw17 have put into the thread over the years, but I don't really see the point in popping in to essentially say "This is dumb now".

                              Cheers.

Laureano is the second most valuable player on the A's. The chances of them trading him are extremely, EXTREMELY low, especially considering how many years of cheap control they have over him. I doubt that them being only 4 games out would have any effect on that.

*IF* they ever considered moving him, I'd assume you'd have to at least hit the high water mark for his value ($74.2 mil). Royce Lewis, Jarren Duran, Jordan Balazovic and Misael Urbina would get you there.

IMO, that's a ton to give up for a guy who's career year was a 3.1 WAR season, but again, there's really no reason for the A's to move him.
