Its kind of hard to find really overpriced guys who make sense.
Just for the sake of chiming in here on a "realism" factor, Rendon has a full no trade clause.

Ignoring that though, you're 100% right. In my mind I'm thinking "Arenado trade", which had the Rockies receiving "meh" players/prospects, and also paying $50 mil to get rid of him.

I really wish this game would let you send cash/retain on a player . Guess we'll have to stick with the "Trade a bad contract+++" for now though.

Hey guys, I’m doing a brewers franchise and I’m looking to pick up Trevor story at the deadline. Obviously the Rockies are not in it and I’m currently first in the division surviving on the brewers great pitching alone approaching the deadline. The trade value simulator says I could get story for a couple different packages.

      1. Willy Adames straight up, however seeing as he was just acquired I don’t know if this is super realistic?

      2. Luis Urias and a low level prospect or two

      3. Aaron Ashby and a package of a few guys

Ideally I would like to keep guys like Turang and Mitchell who I could also trade straight up for roughly equal value.

I’d like to get some thoughts on this, looking for max realism. Thanks in advance!

Adames is definitely not realistic. He's been there like a month and is killing it.

The Brewers have one of, if not the worst farm systems in baseball. I don't think they would be able to really make any prospects unavailable in a Trevor Story trade. Pretty much every team in baseball could match a prospect package from the Brewers.

Could anyone see a trade package built around Jean Segura to the Reds?

              Great thread!

I’m into June 21 of my A’s chise and looking to upgrade at corner OF. The Reds are 16 games below .500 and more than likely going to be out of it. Nick Castellanos is crushing the ball and his ratings are absolutely phenomenal.

He’s on the expensive side for a club like Oakland, but I’d love him in a corner spot for a year and then transition to DH.

What are thoughts on a realistic package? I’m thinking Puk and Puason plus Piscotty to get a little more budget room. Thoughts?

BBTV has it as a bit of an underpay by the A's. Change Puason to Allen and it works out fine.

Re: MLB The Show Trade Discussion Thread

I'm in season 2 of my Reds franchise and looking to upgrade at CF. I'm approaching All Star week and I'm 4.5 games behind STL in the division. Wild card is a no go so I need to win the division if I'm making the playoffs.

Ketel Marte is in the last year of his deal and looks like he could be a good option. I'm wondering what his value would be at this stage though. He is currently listed at 49.3 on BTV but he's obviously only a half-season rental at this stage in game. He's batting .277/.328/.450 for an OPS of .778 and had hit 13 home runs so far this year.

The D-Backs have been an absolute disaster this year and should absolutely be getting what they can for him. Is anyone able to give me a rough idea of the value I should be looking at for him?

Hey Kinsmen - do you know if BBTV takes into consideration where we're at in the current season? I would have gut checked his offer to being too high actually (and that's coming from an M's fan!). I looked up the trade with JD Martinez involving the Tigers and DBacks in '17. JD was a corner OF but primarily DH, half season remaining, both age 29 season and the 2 min research on the prospects involved felt more like 2 low B types and 1 c type.

Not saying you're wrong at all, just curious if you/anyone knows if BBTV accounts for time remaining in the year or does it just assume you're trading for someone at the start of '21.

I had the same thought and looked through the site. Apparently they release updated projections in June and July. Castellanos value seemed low to me at 3.3 but I wasn’t factoring in his recent IL designation. Plus, he’s pretty much a butcher in the field according to Fangraphs so all his value is in the bat.

As for the A’s package, I felt like they’d have to overpay a bit to get Cinci to eat some money from Piscotty or Andrus (both negative values). Even still, the shine has definitely worn off Puk and Puason. One can’t stay healthy and the other has looked unimpressive in the low minors. But both are still youngish and have great tools.

You are correct, the site adjusts multiple times throughout the season. It's worth noting that Castellanos pre-season SV was -$17.6, and jumped in mid-April to $7, before settling where it is now.

I think part of it really depends on whether the roster that you guys are using in-game accounts for the likelihood of him opting in to the remaining 3 years of his contract. I think that's part of the reason for his value being what it is.

@fireballer55-The JD Martinez comparison is a pretty good one. The big difference here is that, as Kcc3 mentioned, you're sending a pretty negative valued contract back in Piscotty. Certainly another instance where it'd be awesome for the game to allow you to include cash in deals, since if you've got budgets on, I feel like it's pretty unlikely that you'd be able to add his contract straight up.

Appreciate the knowledge on BBTV from both of you! I didn't realize they did updates like that. And yes, you're correct about Piscotty, I missed that piece of the deal and just saw the prospects.

Ha! At this point I’d throw in anybody not name Olson given how poorly they’re playing. Maybe Luzardo as a sweetener 😂

Trade for Ketel Marte and go for it or sell some pieces and build for the future.

I've got Joey Votto, Mike Moustakas, Nick Castellanos and Eugenio Suarez all regressing rapidly, and three of them with one year left after the current season. I'm not sure whether to try to make the most of them during this half season, or build the dark system as much as possible whilst the bulk of my budget is tied up in some pretty bad contracts.

Are you sure that Ketel is in the last year of his deal? If you're in year two, at the deadline, he should have approx. 2.3 years of club control remaining, given that this year he has 3.3 years left.

If that's not true, let me know and we'll figure something out.
