Re: MLB The Show 23 Technical Test Has Begun - Post Your Impressions Here
The game is pretty much like 22 as far as game play is concerned. One thing that I have noticed is the high strike outs, both human and cpu. Game play menu is very confusing. New animations are nice. The biggest gripe I have is the sound of the ball coming off the bat. Sounds like a little click or hitting 2 pencils together. Got a perfect/perfect only once and the sound was better, but still weak. Takes a lot out of the game for me. Overall, I’d take 22 or 21 over this version. I’m hoping positive changes are made by official release. I realize this is a test/beta. 23 has great potential with some modifications.

Yes, I agree. I'm a clean screen nut and was so thrilled to have an option to turn off the baserunning diamond. They should at least have it like MLB The Show 22 where the blue circle underneath the player doesn't show up with auto fielding / auto throwing or auto fielding / manual throwing. An option to remove it completely like the baserunning diamond would be optimal. Thanks.Comment

Another cool animation on a pickoff at 2nd base. The 2nd baseman ran to cover the bag, had to slide and reach way back to prevent the ball from going into CF.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 23 Technical Test Has Begun - Post Your Impressions Here
I have played a few games in the tech test and then played a game of '22 for comparison. Did a few more games in the tech test and another game of '22.
I have a few impressions. First off. I like the sound off the bat in the tech test for the most part. It sounds as if you are in the stands listening to a live game. There are varied sounds depending on where the ball hits the bat and the timing of the swing Going back to '22 I noticed when you hit a foul ball, there was a thud like sound. In the tech test, its a crisp ball meeting wood sound. I do like most of the sounds in the tech test but I do agree with some posters on here that a hard it (non perfect perfect) does sound weak. That is where I think '22 got it right with the hard contact. But for the most part, I do really like the ball hitting bat sound in most swings.
Pitching. I use pinpoint pitching on legend. I strike out a ton of people. More than I did in '22. And the CPU is still swinging a lot at balls out of the strike zone. I also still see a lot of foul balls. Now it does depend on what pitcher you are pitching with as the elite pitchers will get their fair share of strike outs. Just in my experience, the strike outs are a lot more than last year. I don't feel that pin point pitching is challenging enough but I stick with it because to me the mechanics feel more natural.
Batting. I use analog and timing. Its just what I am comfortable with. On legend, I don't feel a difference between the tech test and '22. I like it though. I never did very well at the other batting interfaces. I guess my point from my experience is I don't feel a difference between the two which is not a bad thing since I am getting realistic results based on my play style. So no complaints here.
Fielding. I do not feel like the ballparks play bigger. I play manual fielding and throwing. I have always played with analog throwing. I tried the button throwing with accuracy. I actually really like it. But I feel it will be easy to master it the more you play. But I do like the initial challenge it brings.
Fielder Reaction. This is one of my main gripes. Since I strike out so many people, I feel like my fielders get bored or distracted, because when a ball is hit to them, they more often than not are late to react, take a wrong first step or just simply realize they are actually in the field and have to run after the ball. I have seen this happen more in the tech test than in '22. Now most times I am still able to make the play but the slow reaction animation happens a lot from my experience.
This happened in '22 a lot if you put someone out of position in the outfield, but I see this happen more in the tech test with people who should be in that position.
Sounds. The stadium music seems to have a deeper base sound. The organ is crisp. The crowd chatter is more pronounced. Yes, the commentary is off during the tech test and that may be why I am noticing it more, but I felt it is something to mention because when I went back to '22 and downed the commentary volume, the tech test still sounded more robust.
Overall, I don't see a whole lot of difference in the gameplay department from '22. I hope with the new things with the draft, presentation, and commentary that it brings '23 a step forward. But I do still think game play is very solid which is a good thing.Comment

1. Turn auto fielding on from general under decisions.
2. Under control and defense go down list to catch position indicator turn to off.
3. Under Display scroll down to Player Name Display turn that off.
Hope this helps.Youtube: https://youtube.com/@mlbnetworkleagu..._hz5M86fl-FbW4

Was playing against the Guardians in DD. Nice to see they have Steven Kwan's stance done pretty well, but the face is just horrendous. I guess it would have been tough to get a scan for him.
Doubt they will have one this year. Wish they could do better generic faces in this game
Also....the bat sounds really are growing on me. Still would like a little more "thump" behind some of them, but it definitely makes the bat sound "thinner" if that makes any sense.....going back to 22 it almost sounds like you are using a 2x4 as a batChicago Cubs

In regards to Clutch and H/9 with RISP, our roster this year will use each players last 3 years of data for AVG w RISP and H/9 w RISP.
I don’t like the 1-1 change they made, as I feel clutch is a little arbitrary. But at least we can have the clutch ratings match players production IRL and we know what it actually does now.
I’ve gone and tested the default SDS clutch ratings and they just seem too inflated. Presley for the Astros has 99 clutch despite allowing 8+ H/9 with RISP. Many other cases of this too..- Franchise Fidelity to Reality Roster out now! (MLB 25)

That was my point earlier, especially when I saw Presley, and a few others, but some say that will be adjusted down once the game is released. I just don’t understand when this ‘clutch’ is supposed to kick in. Clutch players are not always ‘clutch’. It will be interesting to see the final product.Comment

As of now, it activates every single at bay with a RISP.
If you notice, the attributes change from Contact to just display Clutch after swings with RISP- Franchise Fidelity to Reality Roster out now! (MLB 25)

Hmmmm. It’s going to be interesting. On the surface it reeks of arcade, but we’ll see, I guess.Comment

This just seems like an experiment that could really destroy the game this year. My fear is that they'll tinker with it all year through patches, and that in turn will make it impossible to get any sort of consistent gameplay once we're into franchise mode.Comment

I'm going to play a 3 game series in the options explorer with all games being played at Petco Park and report the stats on at-bats that involve RISP.
Will report back either tonight or tomorrow, depending on how long it takes to play the 3 games.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

I also wanted to post not sure who posted it first but in order to see base runner from home to 1B And actually on base you can turn on Analog base running under Control and offense yo Analog select. This allows the baserunning to appear but u will see it only in the base running window on right upper corner.
You can still steal the traditional way I personally only use L2 disguise my steal by HOLDING L2 until it vibrates then use L1 to take 1 or 2 steps I don't use any other buttons and I'm successful.Last edited by Houston; 02-19-2023, 01:32 PM.Youtube: https://youtube.com/@mlbnetworkleagu..._hz5M86fl-FbW4
