Really? You think with the resources and man power they put into this “one girl” buying the game is going to be a “success”? I’m not a fool. I know more than one girl is probably going to be interested and your example is hyperbolic. But are the ends really going to justify the means. I just don’t think that there are that many female gamers out there clamoring to be included in a baseball video game. I think SDS is taking a gamble and trying to cultivate an audience instead of catering to one that’s alread exists. But much like gambling in real life, your probably better off paying the mortgage before you play that hand of black jack with your house payment.

You’re also wrong about franchise players coming back. I have bought every show day one since the David wright cover. I am not purchasing this year. Not because I am trying to make some broad statement and “speaking with my wallet”. I simply can’t trick myself into being excited to play this game anymore. As a franchise player the mode is so incredibly stale and just more of the same thing I have been playing for the last 7 years. The scouting update did little to change that. I know me not buying won’t hurt SDS bottom line, and I don’t care. There is just too many games out there that get me more excited these days. Which is sad because March to August used to always be show season in my household. It’s like falling out with a long time friend.

And it's fine for you to have that opinion, but that is all it is. None of us actually know what % of the games audience is female.

Just a quick glance at the GirlGamers reddit shows that there are females who are interested in this news and are thinking about buying it for the first time or coming back to it.

Hello. It's me. A woman that loves baseball. Never played MLB the show before but am now considering it
I used to play it but stopped due to how they removed features and became DLC heavy. but, thisss thiss I always loved baseball and this will probably bring me back 100.
The last time I paid attention to a baseball video game was RBI Baseball on the NES.

      This may change that.
Omg this is a dream come true!!
As someone whose favorite baseball movie is A League of Their Own this is the best news I’ve heard in forever. I’m really glad I’ve got this game ready to install through Game Pass when it launches in a couple of weeks. I love that they say female players will have their own unique storyline during RTTS.
This is awesome. Something I honestly never thought I’d get the chance to see. Time to pick up The Show for the first time in many years!

Thanks for sharing those comments, I think it's great.

Also idk what everyone else's deal is but when I was on Twitter for baseball nearly half of the fans/reporters I followed were women. If we had this as kids I absolutely could have talked my sister into playing this with me. I don't know what bubble people are living in to suggest this will hardly make an impact.

MLB network is employee more and more women. There are more women broadcasting games as well. I just had a spring training game on the day and both broadcasters were women. It's the future.

Things have changed as far as why over the years. When they first started using woman on sports shows it was a lot about their looks. I mean seriously find me a sports show back in the day with a woman who was not considered attractive.

Now you see them everywhere so over the years it has become a lot more about their talent for sure. Back then though it was not. One person I remember to reference was Jullian something on FOX NFL. She was like brought in for little segments back in the day on fox. Did not last long but I mean they were trying to cash in on her magazine covers and such at that time.

Re: Players Can Create and Play as a Female Ballplayer in MLB The Show 24 Road to the

You can google this, and the first result that pops up will point to a 2017 study which found that girls (who already make up a minority of the gaming population) are less likely to play sports games than any other genre. It is literally the least represented genre in video games by the opposite sex (The survey found that 98% of sports gamers are male which should not be surprising.). So, before directing any kind baseless accusations at people, let's all understand that reality.

I have no problem with a girl being in RTTS, or even franchise (if it can be toggled) because these games are about creating our own fictional universes.

However, we often like to remind ourselves and give ourselves reality checks that us at OS and other online communities represent a minority of the audience for sports games these days. It is that reality check that, although frustrating, helps us to understand why we don't see improvements to the game modes that we like. So, it's pretty crazy that anyone would pick at people being frustrated at the fact that SDS spent development resources on an almost non-existent minority in their game while offering very little to their existing yet very frustrated audience.

Maybe, hopefully, it was a very small lift for the dev team. Just a slight change in player model and a few voice lines. It's just bad optics when a dedicated segment of the fanbase is ignored year after year (with the understanding that they don't drive revenue) and then the company markets new features for even smaller groups (significantly smaller).

I forget her name but the lady who was doing the main MLB broadcast on ESPN is really good. She even came to work for the Mets recently for one year. She was a lot better than Arod I tell you that

Have you considered this could have something to do with the fact that their physical representation was not available to them in sports games? That maybe trying to live out any fantasy they'd have as a woman to play pro baseball was squashed by only being able to take on the form of a man? The games have been targeted exclusively to men for decades, why should they have ever played before? Why shouldn't we try to include them now?

2017 is a long time ago, didn't even have WNBA in 2K yet. Also you didn't even share your source. This is nonsense.

They matter because we want it to be as close to the real thing as possible.

If they added into MLB the show next year says a women's softball league mode, or even better yet made a women's college softball game. I bet it would sell off the charts.

I tell you where you can find something and you immediately write it off as nonsense because I didn't hand feed you the link, but you want people to follow your line of thinking which are self proclaimed ifs and maybes?

Here is the source. Yes, it's old, but it's the only one I could find like it. It also doesn't take much critical thinking to get to what the data confirms. Most people who play video games are male. Most sports fans are also male. Kind of makes sense that females sports gamers wouldn't be strongly represented right?
Using the data we have from over 270,000 gamers, we’ve put together some findings on the percentage of female gamers across game genres.

To actual participate in the discussion though. Of course I considered it, but it's a monumental and mythical leap to suggest that you're going to create some massive new market in this context. I am a believer in "if you build it they will come", but to what extent? There are already a lot of female baseball fans. In fact, it's the most gender neutral sport in regards to fandom with relatively close 50/50 split (do I need to provide the source for that too?). However, just like the video game, the on field product that they are fans of lacks any form of female representation. So, why are they not playing MLB the Show now? If they're a baseball fan and a video game fan then it seems likely that they are already playing the Show, and I'm happy that they can create themselves. That still isn't the point of why it's silly that you're being so critical of people though.

Even if it did move the needle. The point remains that a minor (though not insignificant) segment of the consumer base has been completely ignored for years. So, it's not at all surprising if they are frustrated.

I play single player games with woman protagonists all the time. Heck, sometimes when the option is given I make a female main character anyway.

You don't need to be in the game and represented to enjoy it. That is silly. Again, I am not saying that having the girls in the game is bad, but I am tired of the narrative that girls don't play because they never had a reason, or werent represented. Pfft.
