Cardinals Sweep the Padres in San Diego

The Cardinals (5-2) swept the Padres in a 3 game series to begin the week in San Diego. The Cardinals outscored the Friars 16-3 over the series.

Lance Lynn got things started on Monday with a masterful performance going 8 innings allowing no runs on just 4 hits. He was lifted in the 9th for Ryan Helsley who saved his 2 game of the season. Nolan Gorman finally swung the bat with purpose as he drove in a run on solo shot. Goldschmidt and Contreras provided the other runs in the 3-1 victory.

Tuesday was Sonny Gray and just like Opening Day, Sonny Gray delivered. Gray would get a complete game shutout as the Cardinals cruised 8-0 over the Padres. Nolan Gorman had 2 homeruns and 6 RBIs on the day.

Wednesday's finale was Kyle Gibson's turn on the bump. While Gibson again didn't have lights out stuff, he missed enough bats as the Cardinals won 4-2. Alec Burleson in his first game of 2024, hit a 3 run bomb in the 6th to make it 3-2 Cardinals. Lars Nootbaar would add a solo shot in the 8th to make it 4-2 the final tally after Ryan Helsley saved his 3rd game of the young season.

The Cardinals will now head home for the first game at Busch Stadium in 2024 as they host the Marlins for a 3 game weekend series.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

Month 1 is in the books for the Nationals in this franchise. At this point, the only direction is up. After a 6-1 start to the year, we fell completely flat on our face and sitting in last place of the division with an 11-18 record. There’s struggling and then there’s the 2024 Washington Nationals.

5 days into the season, Joey Gallo suffered a broken hand, so he’s out 1-2 months. Some Guys have been underperforming so bad that we did a minor roster change just a few weeks into the season.

-We ended up signing Eric Lauer to a 2 year deal right after the season started because I was worried about our rotation. I sent him to AAA to get loose before joining the big league club.
-After Gallo went down, we called up Travis Blankenhorn to help with depth in the infield.
-couple weeks later, with results not being good, we had to make some more changes. We called up Lauer and sent down Joan Adon to AAA, after a very promising spring camp. On the trip home, he must’ve forgot how to pitch because he was awful.
        - and toward the end of the month, we traded away Luis Garcia for Richie Palacios. I don’t plan on having Garcia apart of the franchise for long term and I wanted a guy that could play everywhere. On the same day, we DFA’d Ildemaro Vargas, after his start to the year was abysmal and he isn’t helping us.
-we later ended up getting a trade request from the blue jays. They wanted Richard Bleier for Genesis Cabrera. I felt like because of ages and overalls, I’d be receiving much more than I’d be giving up so I countered with Bleier, Vargas and an additional prospect for Cabrera. = addition by subtraction.

It’s definitely been a tough start to the year but our big 4 OFers (Crews, Wood, Green and Hassell) are off to a decent start to the year, so if things fall into place, maybe we’ll see 1 or 2 of them this year. Crews is at AAA and the others are in AA.

Other than that, I’ll check back in at the end of April and hopefully I have a little better update for everyone.

        Our bright spots so far…

        Lane Thomas: .330avg, .875ops, 5 HR
        CJ Abrams: .315avg, .889ops, 6 HR

Hunter Harvey: 0.82era, 9 for 9 save opps

There’s a couple other shimmers of good but not too much. I’d love to share the bad with you all but I’ll save everyone the time.

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

Alright, played 1 game Friday adjusting sliders and then got busy with life. Been thinking about the game 24/7 though.....don't tell my fiance lol.

Hopped on this morning and found some rosters I liked by someone called Godfather. Every other roster I found was missing Yuki for SD and as a Friar fan it bothered me. But anyways got rosters downloaded and placed JD Martinez with The Mets, Blake Snell with Houston, Jordan Montgomery with The Yanks and Tommy Pham in San Diego. Went in and adjusted some of the more recognizable injuries, Alcantara, Bradish, Verlander, Senga, Cole etc....

Then got stuck lol. Had no idea who to play with until I saw Pittsburgh get busy grabbing the guys no one wanted in Taylor and German, so said sure lets do it. Not a great time but some interesting prospects and storylines with McCutcheon and the boys.

          Pirates Ready for 2024

After a fast start to 2023 The Pirates cooled off drastically to end the season, finishing 76-86 and in 4th place in the division, beating only ST. Louis in a down year.
The Pirates with only 2 weeks until opening day have suddenly created a logjam at a few positions with the signings of Michael A. Taylor and Domingo German. The 77 million dollar man is the easy part, Mitch Keller will be the opening day starter in Miami. In order to get German more reps, he will start as the anchor of the starting rotation, leaving Marco Gonzales, Martin Oerez Bailey Falter to figure out who is #2,#3 and #4 in the rotation, with Johan Oviedo on the shelf with Tommy John surgery until next season. Aroldis Chapman is back on a 1 year deal to help ALl Star closer David Bednar finish off games. Bryan Reynolds, Jack Suwinski and newcomer Taylor will patrol the outfield, with club legend Andrew McCutcheon plugged in as the everyday DH (1 HR shy of 300).This leaves Connor Joe the odd man out. The other position battle is Jared Triolo and Rowdy Tellez and with the strong spring training Triolo had, he will get first crack at everyday first base duties.

          Down on The Farm:
-Quinn Priester who started 10 games last season will start in Indianapolis along with OF Canaan Smith-Njigba
-Heralded 1st round pick Paul Skenes will begin the season where he left off in Altoona with the AA Curve who expect to also welcome Termarr Johnson, Jared Jones, Bubba Chandler and Anthony Solomento, all are top 5 prospects in The Pirates Organization.
#1 Paul Skenes AA RHP 2024 #3 overall
          #2 Termarr Johnson 2B 2024 #44 overall
          #3 Jared Jones RHP 2024 #62 overall
          #4 Anthony Solomento LHP 2024 #82 overall
          #5 Bubba Chandler RHP 2025 #93 overall

Pirates Falter in Miami to Open the Season
Miami took 3 of 4 against Pittsburgh at home. Game 1 went to Miami in brutal fashion if your a Bucco fan as it went 11 innings after Bednar couldn't close it out in the 10th giving up a 2 out double to Josh Bell and Ryan Borucki then gave up a 2 out walkoff isngle in the 11th to Jazz Chisholm. Both times in extra innings The Pirates help a 1 run lead going into the bottom of the inning.

Jazz Chisholm was the player of the game again in game 2 when Miami came from behind to win 5-3. Bailey Falter started strong for Pittsburgh but imploded in the 5th and 6th inning, giving up 5 runs in those 2 innings. Jazz Chisholm finished the game with a triple and a HR(1) including 4 RBI.

The Pirates got their lone win of the series the following night in a 6 run 6th inning. A patient approach lead to 4 walks to go with 4 hits against A.J Puk who couldn't find the zone and was quickly relieved by Edward cabrera who subsequently gave up another walk before getting Rowdy Tellez to groundout to end the nightmare inning. Piuttsburgh also got its 1st and only homerun of the series in that 7th inning, a long drive to left field by Jack Suwinski to extend the lead (1).

The final game of the series was a professional win by Miami, scoring 1 in the 1st, 1 in the 5th and another in the 7th. The story of the game was unforced errors by Pittsburgh, which in turn Miami capitalized on to take the game 3-1. Andrew McCutcheon still sits on 299 homeruns and Bryan Reynolds on 98. Both have had decent series but just can't get enough on the ball to clear the wall.
Pittsburgh (1-3) continues their travels on the way to the District of Columbia to take on the undefeated Washington Nationals (3-0) for 3 games in 4 days. Pittsburgh will look forward to the debut of Domingo German in game 1 of the series.

Probably gonna settle on HOF timing hitting, HOF classic pitching as that’s how I get the most reslistic stats.

What’s everyone using for gameplay injury sliders? Last year on default I got to or around August and barely had any injuries and that ruined it for me.

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

The second series of the season ended up as a rollercoaster for the Blue Jays.

                  - first game was a commanding 9-2 win. Vlad homered again and brought home 4 runs, but he also got plenty of support by his teammates. Cavan Biggio walked 2 times and scored both times, Davis Schneider hit 2/5, Danny Jansen even 3/5. On defense it was a suprisingly good game by Alek Manoah, whos position in the rotation was questionable to start the season

                  - the second game brought the hot start of the Blue Jays to a bitter end: In the battle of the aces Verlander completely controlled the game. In the end it was a 6-4 win for the Astros, but only after Verlander ended his day in the 7th inning the Blue Jays scored for the first time. Gausman on the other end gave up 5 runs in the third, caught himself after that and made it to 6.2 innings, but it was just too much.

                  - the third game started horrible: Starter Chris Bassitt popped out his shoulder after 1 out in the game and now is missing up to two months of game action. The Blue Jays still won the game, but that loss is still hard to manage now. Big factor of the win was that the Astros heavily rotated their lineup and just couldn't create offense, even against the Blue Jays that had to go deep into the bullpen

I didn't really decide yet how I handle the hole in the rotation now. Calling up Tiedemann already? Give the spot to Bowden Francis for the time? Or taking Erik Swanson out of the bullpen for the few games Bassitt is missing?

Next up are the Yankees, who started 5-2 as well. And since the Red Sox started 6-1 as well there is not much room for error yet.

Sorry I missed this eariler, and also a post that I made from Spring Training wrap up and season outlook didn't post.

Anyways, during ST I traded Steven Matz to the Mets for Harrison Bader. I didn't like the idea of Carlson in center, nor using Edman (prefer him on the dirt). Also we sent Jordan Walker to AAA to begin the season because I made him a primary 3B versus outfield, because for my plans that is where he works best. So he's at Memphis getting everyday at-bats and improving his glove.

Started my Cleveland Gaurdians I have played 6 games. I play as GM and let CPU vs CPU play the games. After losing the last game before starting my 7th game of the season the team only scored 1 run. This 7th game of the year facing George Kirby from the Mariners it is like the team had a different strategy in this game. My team was way more aggressive at the plate. Going into the 4th Kirby only had 32 pitches but my team was having success scoring 3 runs with this aggressive change. I thought that was pretty cool. Then the 4th keeping this strategy going my team scored 4 more times. It just is a cool detail that playing as GM only it looks like my Manager is using different strategies to get wins. I don't know if anyone else will think it is a big deal but I was impressed.

Cardinals Drop Home Opening Series to Marlins

The Cardinals (6-4) dropped their first home series of the 2024 season to the Marlins over the weekend. The Cardinals won on Thursday, but after a scheduled day off on Friday, couldn't carry the momentum through the weekend.

The Cardinals continue to get good production from Gorman, Contreras, and Crawford, but the top of the lineup needs to figure things out if the Cardinals are going to do anything this season.

The Cardinals will remain at home as they welcome the red hot Phillies to town (8-1) for a 3 game series before heading back out west.

Glad I'm not the only one struggling against Miami. They took 3 of 4 from me. Arraez and Chisholm were monsters.

Cardinals Drop 2 of 3 to Phillies in St.Louis

The Cardinals (7-6) dropped another 3 game series at home, this time to the Phillies.

The Cards won Monday night in a thrilling comeback against the Phillies where they scored 4 runs in the final two innings to tie the game and then walked it off in the 10th on a Willson Contreras single. But they would get beat on Tuesday night by Zach Wheeler and on Wednesday afternoon, would waste a beautiful start by Miles Mikolas and lose in extra innings this time.

Nolan Arenado did hit his first homerun of the 2024 season, so hopefully this is a sign that things will turn around. Arenado has just one homerun with 2 RBIs to got with a .187 average thru the first two weeks of the season.

The Cardinals are off on Thursday as they travel west to face the Diamondbacks for a 3 game weekend series in Arizona, and then follow that up with a 3 game series in Oakland against the competitive A's.

                            * The Reds have placed SS/IF Elly de la Cruz on the 60 Day IL with a broken hand. The Reds who expect to be competitive in a wide open NL Central, will now deal with missing a key piece until around the first part of July.

                            * The A's have called up top prospect Jacob Wilson to the big league club. Wilson was called up and added to the 40 man roster after Aledmys Diaz was placed on the 10 Day IL.

                            * The Washington Nationals would like a re-do on the start of the season. The Nats started the season 0-11 before getting their first win.

Haven't posted just yet , but have put a good amount of time in this game. I'm getting MLB 12 the show vibes from it in the way the hitting feels, which I love. Game is more of a true baseball sim rather than 22 and 23, where it felt like Home Run or bust offensively. Really like the gameplay so far

I started a Mets Franchise as always, and with the roster with injuries added in. I am undecided if I end up playing this out , or wait until the Opening Day update with the injuries added, as that's a MASSIVE thing for me personally.

I just did put my 2 weeks notice in at my job and will have a week off starting this Friday until 4/1 before I start the new role. So I am going to be playing a TON until then

Lets forget March, A's start April off with a bang!

The Oakland Athletics started off 2024 April on the right foot as they had plentiful offense in their 10-5 victory over the Cleveland Guardians. The sixteen hits in game three was just one short of the total combined hits for the team in the first three games of the series.

The first of those sixteen came in the 2nd inning when Tyler Soderstrom hit his first homerun of the year, a moonshot to rightfield that just snuck over the wall. The A's then added on three more runs in the inning thanks to an Esteury Ruiz two rbi single and a Ryan Noda rbi double.

The Athletics went on to take a 5-0 lead in the next inning when Soderstrom looked to have his second homer in as many innings, however, it fell just short and into the glove of Myles Straw. Brent Rooker was able to score on the fly out after he reached third earlier in the inning.

The Guardians then looked determined to get the four game sweep in the fourth inning as they scored four runs of their own to cut the lead to 5-4.

The Athletics offense continued to perform well however as they scored five more runs and eventually took the victory, 10-5.

The earlier matcups were nothing to write home about although the first two were close, game three was a 7-0 loss for Oakland as Triston Mckenzie pitched a complete game shutout in his first start of the year.

The A's now look forward to finishing off their season opening homestand with three against the Red Sox (1-3/5th AL East).
