Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

Welcome to the 2027 Reapers season! High hopes for this team as the Reapers added Ryan Mountcastle in Free Agency and also made over the bullpen. The Reapers are hoping to contend for a wild card birth and looking forward to seeing their young guys develop more.

    Lineup:

Dominic Fletcher – coming off his best year so far, he’s been super consistent for me

Bobby Kirby – had a breakout rookie year with 24 big flys hoping to see him improve on the average

Luis Robert Jr – Definitely a possible trade candidate at the deadline In his last year before free agency

Ryan Mountcastle – brought him in after having a career year hopefully it pays off

Joey Bart – was amazing last year hoping for a repeat

Colson Montgomery – had a down year last year hoping for a bounce back

A.J. Vukovich – giving him the shot at third I’ll see how it goes

Oscar Colas – was decent last year

Owen Caissie – was okay last year definitely hoping for more

    Bench:

Osiris Johnson – super utility guy we’ll see how it goes

    Korey Lee – solid defensively

Davis Wendzel – Rule 5 pick

Bryan Ramos – was out of options so he gets his shot

Nasim Nunez – solid bench player

    Rotation:

Garrett Crochet – Had a bounce back year hopefully he continues gave him a three year deal in the offseason

Mike Soroka – hoping for another solid year

Drew Thorpe – was better last year but definitely needs to step up

AJ Smith-Shawver – claimed off waivers from Braves, hasn’t been good with them but he’s only 24

Grant Taylor – was okay in a couple starts, hoping he breaks out

    Bullpen:

LRP – Jake Eder – was solid in the rotation last year trying him in the pen

MRP – Nate Pearson - was better in the pen then closer last year

MRP – Genesis Cabrera – gave him a 1yr deal was awesome with the jays needs a shut down lefty

MRP – Orion Kerkering – got him from the Phillies in the offseason hasn’t really been used

MRP – Will Klein – was decent in a could appearances last year

SU – Jorge Acala – was my best pitcher last year

CL – Brusdar Graterol – gave him a 2yr deal

    Top prospects:

C Joel Averill – currently the top prospect in the league, starting him in Double A. Might be up this year depends how the team does

SP Trey Weston – one of my picks from last years draft definitely needs more develop

RP Karl McGregor – in Double A

2B Jacob Gonzalez – in Triple A currently will probably be up with the big club this year

SP Grant Taylor – won’t be on here too much longer

      August 2-4, 2024: FLAGSTAFF (50-64) @ PRESCOTT (51-62)
      Stadium: ASARCO Park (Capacity: 7,170)

      August 2: Hops 11, Hot Shots 8
      August 3: Hots Shots 2, Hops 0
      August 4: Hops 10, Hot Shots 2

Prescott, AZ (AP) - Where has this offense been all year? The Hops took two of three from their rivals, Prescott, over the weekend, scoring 21 runs in the two wins as they have now won five of six.

In the opener, the suddenly red-hot Flagstaff offense kept it going as they knocked out 18 hits in an 11-8 victory over the Hot Shots. David Petrovski went 3 for 6 with a home run and two runs batted in to help lead an offense that has scored 20 runs in the last two games.

Believe it or not, this one was scoreless through two innings before the Hops got the offense going in the third. David Benitez singled home Bradley York with the game's first run. David Petrovski then singled home Thomas Sanders. Roberto Geronimo would ground into a (5-4-3) double play that allowed Benitez to score to make it 3-0.

J.J. Ruffing would hit a solo home run off of Alex Farmer in the bottom of the third to put Prescott on the scoreboard.

Harwill O'Kane hit a two-out RBI double in the fourth and Paul Knapp singled him home to tie the game at 3-3.

In the fifth, the Hops would score three more runs, all with two outs. Phillip Choi doubled to center to score David Petrovski and Isaac Nettles. Ryan Kelly would single home Choi to make it 6-3. David Petrovski would hit a solo home run in the sixth, his eighth on the season to make it 7-3.

Flagstaff would add four more runs in the seventh. Thomas Sanders hit a two-run double to left and David Benitez followed with a two-run home run, his 15th, to make it 11-3. The Hops would actually need that cushion as Prescott staged a mini comeback.

The Hot Shots would score three in the bottom of the seventh on a three-run home run from Matt Olson to cut the lead to 11-6. Willie Reece would hit a two-run shot in the eighth off of Sam Varlea to cut it to 11-8.

Varela would start the ninth but gave up a leadoff double to Ryan Meger. Matt Blake brought in Vic Miller for the third straight day and he got the final three outs to lock down his 24th save and secure the Hops fourth straight win. Both teams used five pitches in the game with Alex Farmer (14-4) getting credit for the win. He only lasted five innings, allowing three runs on six hits. He struck out seven and walked two.

On Saturday evening, the Hot Shots got a great pitching performance from Matthew Cairo and they shut out the Hops 2-0 to end their modest four game winning streak.

The Hot Shots would get on the board in the second on a solo home run from George Collins, his eighth on the season. They would extend it to 2-0 in the fourth on another solo home run, this time from Paul Knapp, his 16th on the season, off of Juro Yamaguchi.

That would be all of the offense in this one as Cairo pitched into the ninth, but was lifted for closer Lester Medrano after giving up a lead off single. Medrano came on and struck out Roberto Geronimo and Emmitt Hampton before hitting Ryan Kelly. That brought Robbie Westbroook to the plate as the go ahead run, but he grounded out to end the ball game.

Juro Yamaguchi (3-11) took the loss but tossed a complete game, allowing two runs on five hits. He struck out six and did not walk a batter.

On Sunday afternoon, the Hops hit six home runs as they overcame an early two run deficit to storm back and crush the Hot Shots 10-2. Emmitt Hampton homered twice in the game to lead a suddenly hot offense.

Prescott jumped out to a 2-0 lead after four innings thanks to solo home runs from Matt Olson (19) and Harwill O'Kane (12). But thise were about the only mistakes that Russell Fluty made in this one. Fluty (5-11) would allow two runs on seven hits, while striking out three in six strong innings of work.

The Hops would turn the game around in the fifth inning as they hit three home runs. After giving up a one-out walk, starter Kelly Wolf was pulled from the game. He had only allowed two hits while walking two and striking out four. Miles Coburn came in from the bullpen and immediately surrendered a game-tying two-run home run to Forrest Owen, his 12th on the year. Then John Benitez (16) and Emmitt Hampton hit back-to-back solo home runs with two outs to put the Hops up 4-2.

In the sixth, David Petrovski doubled home Thomas Sanders. Bradley York would ground out to short, but Ryan Kelly scored to make it 6-2. Robbie Westbrook (12) then hit a two-run home run to make it 8-2.

David Petrovski would add a solo home run in the eighth and Emmitt Hampton (17,18) hit his second of the game in the ninth to make it 10-2. For Petrovski, it was his ninth on the season and third in four games.

Pedro Macias picked up a rare three-inning save, allowing one hit and striking out five over the final three innings.

The Hops (50-64) will now have a chance to move out of the basement in the ML West as they return home to face Colorado Springs (50-63) in a three game series starting on Monday evening. It is a quick thre game homestand before hitting the road for a trip to Texas.

Around the League: Scottsdale's Jaime Pacheco improved to (14-5) as he tossed eight strong innings and the Scorpions defated San Diego 5-2. Pacheco allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits, while striking out five and walking one. Soto worked a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his 30th save. Spencer Smith (4), Sam Conley (13) and Juan Vargas (17) all homered for the Scorpions in the win.

Salt River's Dante Telshaw blasted three home runs (13,14,15) and drove in five as the Rafters crushed Santa Fe 9-1.

Surprise hit seven home runs and had 15 hits as they outlasted Henderson 12-9 on Saturday afternoon. Alberto Ruiz (22,23) and Dan Turner (18,19) each homered twice as the Saguaros look to keep pace with first-place Scottsdale. Albert Zambrano hit his DL leading 30th home run in the game and drove in seven of the Silver Knights nine runs in the loss.

San Diego's Javier Vatencia went 4 for 5 including a ninth inning, three-run walk-off home run (13) as the Seals rallied to defeated Scottsdale 8-7. Vatencia scored twice and drove in five runs to help the Seals to the victory.

Rio Rancho's Richard Gates (8) hit a pinch-hit walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth Saturday night as the Owlz rallied to stun Gilbert 5-1. Rollie Flingers went eight innings, allowing just one run on four hits, while striking out nine and walking three, but did not figure in the decision.

David Petrovski is starting to heat up and so is the Hops offense.

MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

        2024 Baltimore Orioles

Just had a crazy game against the Royals. We had a 3-1 lead going into the 9th. Kimbrel gets the first two outs easy. Then Freddy Fermin hits a double in the gap. Next batter is Kyle Isbel. With two strikes on him, he hits a huge slice from the left hand batters box. It curls around the shortish (333 ft.) left field foul pole in Camden Yards. The ball lands in the first row of the seats. Tie game 3-3.

Bottom nine, one out, man on first after a Ramon Urias single. Jackson Holliday steps up to the plate. Second pitch is absolutely crushed onto the flag court for a walk off HR. Holliday’s first career HR. An unforgettable one at that.

        Full series recap coming soon.

About 40 games into my Mets franchise and was feeling great. Was a couple games over .500 on a 5 game winning streak. Thought maybe I should adjust sliders to make it a little more difficult and before I did, The Braves came to town and humbled me in a 3 game set taking 2 of 3 and outscoring me 22-12.....
This game man, 1 game to the next can be so different. This is the only sports game where I get such varying results. I love it. Onto Philadelphia for 4 games now.

Cardinals drop series to Rangers to end July

The Cardinals (58-51) lost 2 games of a 3 game series with the Rangers in St.Louis to begin the week and close out the month of July. The Cardinals are now a half game back of the Brewers in the NL Central. The Cubs are 3.5 back while the Reds are 4.5 back as the season turns to final two months.

The Cardinals just couldn't hit this series. They were shutout on Monday, had 1 run on Tuesday, and won Wednesday when they put up 8 runs, but on only 4 hits. Walks, errors and two timely homeruns were the driving force instead of consistent offense.

The Cardinals will begin the month of August in Chicago with a 4 game series against the Cubs. Its the final time these two will meet this year, which begs to question, what are the schedule makers doing?
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

                    August 5-7, 2024: COLORADO SPRINGS (51-65) @ FLAGSTAFF (52-65)
                    Stadium: AutoZone Park (Capacity: 13,406)

                    August 5: Snow Sox 3, Hops 1
                    August 6: Hops 7, Snow Sox 5
                    August 7: Hops 8, Snow Sox 1

Flagstaff, AZ (AP) - The Flagstaff Hops took two of three from Colorado Springs to close out the quick home stand as they moved out of last place in the ML West.

In the opener, the Snow Sox got a solid start from Chip Wolf and helped him with some timely offense in a 3-1 victory over the Hops. Wolf (8-6) went seven innings, allowing one run on five hits, while striking out eight and walking two.

The Snow Sox would grab the lead in the top of the first as Donnie Samuels led off the game with a solo home run to right off of Geraldo Rodriguez. It was Samuels eighth on the year.

Colorado Springs would increase that lead to 2-0 in the sixth on a bases loaded RBI single from Todd Austin. They would add a run in the seventh on a Donnie Samuels sac fly that scored Jacob Myers to make it 3-0.

Flagstaff would finally get on the board in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single from Forrest Owen, scoring Roberto Geronimo. Geronimo went 3 for 4 with a double and had three of the five hits for the Hops on Monday evening.

Geraldo Rodriguez (4-9) took the loss, but he was solid, throwing 5.1 innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits. He struck out four and walked two. Oliver Benedict pitched the eighth and came out to pitch the ninth, but had to leave the game with a finger injury. Trainers said the injury was not serious and he would likely only miss a day or two.

On Tuesday evening, the Hops used the long ball to even the series, hitting four home runs in a 7-5 victory. Emmitt Hampton blasted two home runs for the second straight game and drove in five runs to help lead the Hops to the win.

Flagstaff got off to an impressive start, hitting three first inning solo home runs. Thomas Sanders led off with a home run to open the inning, his third. After David Benitez grounded out, Emnitt Hampton homered to right to make it 2-0. One out later, Robbie Westbrook homered off of the foul pole in right to make it 3-0.

Colorado Springs would get in on the action too. In the top of the second Juan Primo (15) and Mike Rock (19) each hit solo home runs off of Ryan Pressley.

Emmitt Hampton ended an epic fifteen pitch at-bat in the bottom of the second with a long three-run home run to make it 6-2, his 20th on the season and the Hops were rolling. Hampton would add an RBI double in the fourth to put the Hops up 7-3.

The Snow Sox would make it interesting in themninth as Jacob Myer hit a two-run home run off of Sam Varela, but he managed to work his way out of it, getting James Dudeck to ground out to first to end the ball game.

Ryan Pressley (10-10) picked up the win, tossing 7.1 innings and allowing three runs on six hits, while striking out 11 without issuing a walk. Elmer Santos (0-6) took the loss for the Springs. He only lasted three innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits, including four home runs.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Hops used the long ball again, blasting five home runs in an 8-1 victory to take two of three from the Snow Sox. Richie Jackson hit two home runs and drove in four, his first two home runs in the big leagues, to help pace Flagstaff to the win.

Flagstaff would take the lead in the third on a Forrest Owen two run home run, his 13th on the year.

Colorado Springs would get one back in the third in an unusual way. Alex Farmer walked the bases loaded, then gave up a sac fly to Jacob Myers to get the Snow Sox on the scoreboard.

Back-to-back home runs from Thomas Sanders (4) and Richie Jackson in the fifth increased the Hops lead to 4-1. Jackson would hit his second home run of the game, a three-run shot, in the seventh to make it 6-1. Emmitt Hampton followed that up with a solo home run, the second back-to-back home runs in the game for the Hops. It was Hampton's 21st on the season and fifth in the last four games!

Alex Farmer (15-4) picked up the win, pitching six innings and allowing one run on just one hit. He struck out three and walked three, all in that fourth inning. Kenneth Valdez and Samuel Espinoza got the final nine outs.

Colorado Springs managed just two hits in the game. The win moved the Hops from fifth up to third in the ML West, tied with Prescott.

The Hops will have tomorrow off as they head to Texas to take on Fort Worth (65-52) and San Antonio (66-49), the two teams fighting for the ML East lead.

Around the League: Mesa hit eight home runs on Monday evening as they crushed Salt River 11-0. Garrett Matthews (12,13) and Damon Martin (8,9) each hit two home runs for the Solar Sox. Vincent Suarez (4-4) was spectacular on the mound as he scattered two hits over seven innings, striking out 12 and walking two to pick up the win.

Scottsdale's Tanner Bell went 4 for 5 with three doubles, a triple and five RBIs to lead the Scorpions to a 12-1 victory over Glendale to extend their lead in the DL Central. Lee Lim blasted two home runs (26,27) and also drove in five for Scottsdale as they moved a game and a half up on Surprise.

Salt Lake's David Hernandez hit for the cycle, going 5 for 5 with a double, two triples and a home run, driving in two in the Chukars extra innings victory over Rio Rancho, 8-7. His leadoff triple led to a Rafael Geronimo sac fly that won the ballgame in the bottom of the 11th inning.

St George won in walk-off fashion on Wednesday afternoon as Jamaal McCormack blasted a solo home run with two-outs in the bottom of the ninth as the Archers defeated Santa Fe 2-1 to take two of three from the Jays. It was McCormack's league leading 33rd home run on the season and moved St George 3.5 games clear of Salt Lake in the ML West.

Well we(Braves) swept through the Windy City! We took the 3-game set vs. CWS! 6-5, 6-1 and 11-5. It looks like on our getaway day our bats really unload on our opponents. It's early though. I had scare in Game 2 of the series, Fried strained his oblique in the bttm 2nd. Luckily for us it is not a long term injury, 1-6 days. He should be ready for his home season premier vs. the Mets. This is our debut at home. 3 game set vs. D-backs and 4 games vs. the Mets. We're looking to extend our 4-game winning streak. We called up 1B/DH/3B Evan Longoria and added him to our 40-man roster. He will bat as the DH vs lefties. If Olson durability gets low he will start at 1B.

A's drop four game series in Minnesota, 1-3.

The Oakland Athletics' series win streak ended at just two as they lost their series to the AL Central leading Minnesota Twins, 1-3.

The only game the Twins won was the third game of the series. J.P. Sears started and completed that game giving up just two runs on a 9th inning two run HR by Royce Lewis (#15).

Beyond that win, Minnesota really controlled each game in the series. Game one ended 3-2 in favor of the Twins but they had a 3-0 lead through five innings before Oakland scored two in the sixth.

The A's will now have a much needed day off before they return home to face off with the Royals (28-46/4th AL Central), a team they beat 2-1 in a series amonst exactly a month ago.

                          Oakland selling early?
The A's were offered a trade by the Miami Marlins after their third game against Minnesota. That trade was to send Brent Rooker (29 YO 78 OVR RF) to Miami in exchange for the MLB's #12 overall prospect, RHP SP Noble Meyer (19 YO RHP 66 ovr A POt).

Rooker was an all-star for Oakland in 2023 during his 30 HR campaign but he had struggled in 2024. He was still hitting for decent power (11 HR) but the rest left a lot to be desired as he led the MLB in strikeouts (97) and had an average below .200.

For those reasons, Oakland accepted the trade. Rooker will take over as the Marlins starting right fielder and Meyer has become the A's #1 prospect.

Lawrence Butler has taken over the starting RF role for Oakland and the A's #2 prospect, Jacob Wilson (utility player/22 years old 66 OVR A Pot) was called up and singled in his first at bat (game three win VS. Minnesota).

The final month of the regular season is upon us. The Royals maintain a 3-game lead in the division. But it has not been a smooth ride to this point. We came out of the all-star break splitting a 2 game series with the Reds followed by a series win against the Mets taking 2 of 3. We went on the road to end the month getting swept by the Guardians and the Marlins. Jesus Luzardo went 7.2 IP with 7 SO and 2 ER against us in the first game in Miami. That night we decided to make a trade. We acquired him and 2B Luis Arraez in exchange for our #2 prospect 3B Darnell Hobbs (#7 in the Top 100), #5 CF Gavin Cross (#96 in the Top 100), #13 SP Mason Barnett and #15 C Carter Jensen. They become the #1, #5, #11, and #12 prospects in the Marlins organization. We started August strong sweeping the Twins and taking 2 of 3 from the Cardinals and White Sox. The momentum faded fast as we lost 10 of the next 11. Getting swept by the Tigers, Losing 3 of 4 to the Mariners then getting swept again this time by the Dodgers. The team got back on track as Bobby returned to the lineup taking 2 of 3 from the Pirates, sweeping the Nationals, and taking 2 of 3 from the Rays to end the month.

Around the league the Orioles look ready to win the AL East at 82-55 with a 10-game lead over the Rays, and The Rangers at 81-56 have a 2-game lead over the Angels in the AL West. The Angels, Rays, and Astros hold the AL Wild Card spots with the Mariners 1 game back, the Twins 1.5 games back, the Red Sox 3 games back, and the Blue Jays 3.5 games back. The Tigers are the next closest team 8.5 games back. Over in the NL the Braves at 85-52 hold just a 1-game lead over the Phillies in the East. The NL Central could still be almost any team for the taking. The Brewers at 69-67 lead by 2.5 over the Cubs and Reds with the Pirates and Cardinals 5.5 and 6.5 games back. The NL West battle is over. And it has been for a long time. The Dodgers are the only team in to have already clinched a playoff spot and they did it by already clinching the division as well. 102 wins at the end of August. On pace to win 118 games breaking the record for most wins in a season. The Phillies and Padres hold the first 2 spots in the wildcard with the Cubs and Reds tied for the final spot. The Giants are 1 game back, Diamondbacks 2.5 games back, Pirates 3 games back, and Cardinals 4 games back.

Tyler Gentry won his 2nd Rookie of the Month in August hitting .319 with 4 HR and 23 RBI. Nate Eaton is being called up as the rosters expand. Jonathan Bowlan was sent back to Triple-A to make room for Luzardo, Kris Bubic came off the IL on August 24th. He went 5.1 IP with 4 ER in his first start back. Jonathan Bowlan was optioned to Triple-A to make room. Kyle Wright is being recalled to fill out the 28-man roster. He has a 2.18 ERA and 0.99 WHIP in Triple-A. He will get another chance in the Rotation with Seth Lugo moving to the pen. He will alternate starts with Brady Singer who has spent the last couple weeks in the pen.

We have 26 games left before the end of the season as we look to make the playoffs for the first time since winning the World Series in 2015. Looking at the schedules the Twins have a tougher road as they try to erase the 3-game deficit. They play 6 games against teams under .500 while we play 14 teams under .500. Unfortunately we play 14 of our 26 remaining games on the road. We have the 2nd best home record in the majors at 45-24, but only 28-39 on the road. 8 of those road games are against the Yankees and White Sox who are 28 and 35 games under .500.

Cardinals split series with Cubs in Wrigley

The Cardinals (60-53) split their 4 game series with the Cubs over the weekend in Chicago. The Cardinals are now a game back of the Brewers in the NL Central.

The Cardinals won on Thursday and Friday thanks to strong pitching, but Saturday and Sunday pitching was anything but strong. Kyle Gibson was blown out on Saturday giving up 8 runs in 2 innings of work. On Sunday, the Cardinals had a 3-0 lead going into the 8th, by the time the inning ended, they trailed 7-3.

Cardinals have placed OF Harrison Bader on the 10 Day IL due to back issues. Bader has been struggling at the plate as of late, but was still stellar with the glove. The Cardinals have recalled Alec Burleson from Memphis to take the vacant roster spot.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
