    2025 Houston Astros 04/18-04/20

Overall Record:12-9/2nd AL West/1.5 behind Seattle)

    Game Results:

    Game 1
    Padres-8
    Astros-6

    Game 2
    Padres-9
    Astros-6

    Game 3
    Astros-5
    Padres-4

Houston avoids another sweep with game 3 win versus San Diego

The San Diego Padres won two of three against the Houston Astros. They won the first two games, 8-6 and 9-6. So, the Astros had to pull it out in game three to avoid first sweep of 2025. And, they did just that. Framber Valdez had probably his best game thus far in the new year as he pitched 8 innings, gave up 9 hits, 3 runs and struck out 5.

His counterpart was Dylan Cease who lasted just 3.2 innings while he allowed 6 hits, 5 runs and struck out 5.

The Astros got out to their first lead of the series in the first inning of game three as Yordan Alvarez hit his 8th homerun to put the Stros on top, 1-0.

That lead would swell to 5-0 as Houston knocked out Dylan Cease in the fourth inning. After that, San Diego would fight back but eventually end up losing as Josh Hader collected his 8th save of the season.

The Astros now welcome the Blue Jays (13-10/4th AL East/1.5 behind Tampa Rays) to town.

Re: MLB The Show 25 Franchise Discussion

Just finished playing 10 spring training games to get a feel for it again. Plus wanted to tweak my sliders / settings / camera / etc to my liking. About to start the regular season, just have to manually injure the longer term injuries around the league so I can start from the most realistic spot that I can.

Should be a fun year. Looking to grab some pop off the bench. Checking into some DFA guys like Stone Garrett and Nelson Velasquez. Might also look to sign a free agent.

So far Davis Schneider is my RH pop off the bench and he didn’t perform well in spring. Also, might look into some starting pitching depth to provide a long man option / depth in AAA.

Stay tuned as opening day is right around the corner.

        The 2025 Seattle Mariners

Today we start with a special news and then continue with the dumbest 2 game set possible.

        The Trade
We looked through the league for a while for a fitting addition to our clubhouse. What we needed at this point of the season was not more then a backup, but at the same time I questioned how far a low ceiling move would take us right now, so we looked for something more creative.

We all know that the As made a name for themselves by identifying talent across the league that was underutilized and gave them a fresh start after a change of scenery. But what happens if you take an underutilized talent from them?

The As receive: SP Jurrangelo Cijntje, 1B Tyler Locklear
The Ms receive: CF Esteury Ruiz

I think that was a good deal because I don't know if we over- or underpaid. But first let's see what we get out of the deal:

        - Randy Arozarena struggled with his lost speed in the outfield and missed some crucial plays on defense, Ruiz is fast
        - We don't have much speed in the middle to end part of the lineup and did I mention Ruiz is fast? Having another good baserunner there could give as a bit more flexibility for the lineup
        - Ruiz struggles to hit the ball, which makes him a good fit for us as well

We gave up a potential starting pitcher who can throw with both hands, but if Ruiz gets at least back to his 2023 form that could be a win for us. A Ruiz, Rodriguez, Robles outfield has a lot of potential. And speaking of Robles: He was in a similar spot last season before he was picked up by the Mariners, so lets hope that works again.

        Series Recap: Angels
        Game 1: W 16-3
        Game 2: L 3-11

The Pink Gorilla Games high performer of the series: Esteury Ruiz: 2 hits, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 2 SB

I don't think I promised too much calling that the dumbest two game set possible.

We hit for 4 home runs in the first two innings, which was a nice start to the game. The Angels actually came back in the 4th for a bit scoring 3 runs of their own, which ended Bryce Millers day early. From there Gregory Santos and Shintaro Fujinami just gave up 2 hits and 2 walks combined for the rest of the game.
On the other side of the mound Jack Kochanowicz looked like in a Spring Trainig start where he wanted to work on his curveball, because he could not stop throwing that thing and we didn't stop hitting it. After 3.1 innings and 7 earned runs in his book he got replaced, but those guys didn't do a much better job.

Home runs by Julio, Cal, Tellez(again?!) and Polanco. 2 doubles by Robles and Cal each. One by Esteury Ruiz in his debut(in LF for Arozarena). Robles had 4 RBI in the game, Cal had 5. Both could have been worthy of the player of the series for this game alone, but Esteury is the better story so take that or leave it!

And then game 2. Mike Trout looked like Mike Trout, starting the game with a huge 3 run bomb and from there they could not stop hitting the ball. They were up 4-1 until the 7th inning, from there they scored 7 runs. The top of the Mariners lineup then batted some runs in after stolen bases by Robles and Rodriguez each, but in general just never got going. Very tough loss and that right before an important series against the Rangers.

            Mariners 2025

M's Sweep Cleveland in 3 game set

While Seattle's offense will continued to be questioned the deeper they go, they showed great poise and serious pop in their sweep of the reigning AL Central Champion Guardians.

Game one saw Bryan Woo make his season debut, going into the 7th, and allowing only 1 run in a 5-1 victory.

Logan Gilbert made his second start of the season in game 2, and was terrific through 5.1 until he was absolutely pummeled by a ball off the bat of Jose Ramirez. After that, the bullpen was shaky, blowing a 6-1 lead, but Donovan Solano continued his excellent start, hitting a bases loaded double in the 8th, to cement the 9-6 win.

After a rough first start of the season, George Kirby looked a bit better in his second turn, going 6 innings and allowing 3 runs for his first quality start of the year. The Mariners offence, behind Mitch Garver's 4th home run of the year, would put up 9 once again, defeating the Guardians 9-5 for their first series sweep of the season. Of note in this one, star center fielder Julio Rodriguez continues to scuffle with the bat, with only 4 hits, all singles, through the first 7 games.

Injury news: Seattle seems to have avoided a major blow after Gilbert was hit in the series opener, as he'll be listed as day-to-day, and is not expected to miss his next start, which will come against the Jays.

Next up: The M's hit the road for the first time this year, heading to Milwaukee for a 3 game set against the Brewers.

              Cardinals take series from Diamondbacks

The Cardinals (21-32) took 2 games of a 3 game series against the Diamondbacks in St.Louis over the weekend. The Cardinals are still 8.5 games back of the now NL Central leading Brewers.

The Cardinals won Friday night and Sunday afternoon, but were blown out Saturday. Alec Burleson had a good series with 6 hits including a double and 2 homeruns driving in 7 runs over the series. Lars Nootbaar continues to struggle as he is now hitting just under .170 on the season.

The Cardinals lost Ivan Herrera for a good portion of the rest of the year due to a broken hand suffered when he was hit by a pitch in the 5th inning on Saturday.

The Cardinals will now travel to Baltimore for a 3 game series with the Orioles before heading to Texas to close out the month of May.

Cardinals drop series against Orioles in Baltimore

The Cardinals (22-34) dropped yet another series, this time in Baltimore against the Orioles. The Cardinals are now 9 games behind the Reds and Brewers who are tied atop the NL Central.

The below stats are all you need to know about this series.

The bats never showed up. Pitching did a good job of keeping the team in the games waiting on the offense to do something, and basically they did nothing. They did show up somewhat in the series finale to avoid the sweep.

Steven Matz did get dominated on Monday night as he never got out of the 1st inning. But Matthew Liberatore and Sonny Gray pitched lights out in their respective starts, with neither getting a win. The Cardinals won Wednesday afternoon (Gray start) in extra innings when the offense decided to put up a few runs to avoid the sweep.

The Cardinals are off on Thursday as they travel to Texas for a 3 game series against the Rangers that will close out the month of May and begin the month of June.

Texas Rangers MOM season 1 update.

Well 2025 is underway and we are 28 games in to the regular season. My team is on 12 and 16 and 5 games out of 1st. Semien, Jung, and Langford are all off to slow starts. Hopefully we can get back on track. Carter didn't make the team out of Spring and Burger landed on the 60 day IL on the last day of Spring. Going forward we hope Eovaldi can continue his incredible run

Re: MLB The Show 25 Franchise Discussion

Just finishing up my MLB 22 franchise in season three before I jump into MLB 25. Waiting on a patch to fix stadium creator.

                    September 24-26, 2024: PRESCOTT (74-85) @ FLAGSTAFF (81-78)
                    Stadium: AutoZone Park (Capacity: 13,406)

                    September 24: Hops 4, Hot Shots 1
                    September 25: Hot Shots 11, Hops 6
                    September 26: Hot Shots 7, Hops 6

Flagstaff, AZ (AP) - The Flagstaff Hops dropped two of three to the Prescott Hot Shots to put their playoff hopes on life support, as they now trail Salt Lake by three games with three left to go in the season.

The red-hot Hops won their sixth straight game on Tuesday evening as they cruised to a 4-1 victory in the series opener with Prescott. Alex Farmer tossed seven solid innings to pick up his 19th win on the year.

The Hops grabbed the lead in the third inning on a solo home run from Robbie Westbrook, his 21st on the year. They would extend that lead to 3-0 in the fourth on a Forrest Owen two-run blast, his 27th.

An RBI ground out from Ryan Kelly in the fifth, scoring Robbie Westbrook, made it 4-0.

The Hot Shots would get their lone run in the sixth on a Willie Reece solo home run, his 16th on the year.

Alex Farmer (19-5) tossed seven innings, allowing one run on six hits, striking out six and walking one. Oliver Benedict worked a scoreless eighth and Vic Miller sent down the Hot Shots in order in the ninth to earn his 40th save.

On Wednesday evening, the Hops saw their sixth game winning streak grind to a halt as they fell 11-6 to Prescott. Khris Kovach hit a big three-run home run to key a five run fifth inning, then Ryan Meger hit a ninth-inning grand slam for the Hot Shots to seal the win.

After going up 7-2 in the fifth inning on the Kovach home run off of reliever Pedro Macias, the Hops would rally with two runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to cut the Hot Shots lead to 7-6. In the sixth, David Petrovski hit a two-run home run to right, his 20th on the year. In the seventh, it was back-to-back home runs from Emmitt Hampton and Roberto Geronimo that got the Hops back in it.

But in the ninth, an error from Ryan Kelly opened the inning, his second one of the game. J.J. Ruffing then singled to right and Willie Reece got hit by a pitch attempting to bunt. Ryan Meger then blasted a 3-2 fastball way over the wall in right to give the Hot Shots a cushion, putting them up 11-6.

Jack Mays would pick up the save as he got the final four outs for Prescott.

Juro Yamaguchi (10-12) took the loss for Flagstaff, pitching 4 1/3 innings and allowing six runs (four earned) on eight hits. He struck out five.Kelly Wolf (10-10) was credited with the win for Prescott. He pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits.

The loss dropped the Hops two games back of Salt Lake in the West with four games remaining.

On Thirsday afternoon, Flagstaff blew a 5-1 lead and fell 7-6 on a Ryan Megaer two-out RBI single in the top of the ninth to push the Hops to the brink of playoff elimination.

The Hops grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI single from Benitez. An Emmitt Hampton solo home run in the third put Flagstaff up 2-0. It was his 34th on the season.

A Matt Olson solo home run in the third got Prescott on the board.

But Flagstaff answered with three in the bottom half to go up 5-1. Donnie Roland hit a two-run double to left that scored Forrest Owen and David Petrovski. Emmitt Hampton then lined a bases loaded single to right to score Roland as the Hops went up by four.

But in the sixth, the Hot Shots tied it up with two, two-run home runs. Khris Kovach hit a two-run shot off of starter Russell Fluty, then Josh Carroll hit a two-run home run off of reliever Samuel Espinoza to tie the game at 5-5.

The Hot Shots would take the lead in the top of the seventh on a Ryan Meger RBI double. But the Hops answered in the bottom half as Roberto Geronimo went deep to left, his 33rd, to tie it back up at 6-6.

In the ninth, with Aldo Osuna on, J.J. Ruffing singled with one out and was replaced with a pinch runner, Cesar Zambrano. He stole second and then scored on a two-out bloop single to left from Meger to put Prescott up 7-6.

Lester Medrano came on in the bottom half and sent the Hops down in order to pick up his 42nd save and leave Flagstaff in a tough spot.

The Hops (81-78) will now need to sweep first-place Scottsdale (94-65) in the last series of the season and have Salt Lake (84-75) lose all three games at Prescott (74-85), just to force a one-game playoff. Any win by Salt Lake or loss by Flagstaff ends the Hops playoff chances. St George is still in the race too as they are tied with Flagstaff and play a three game series at Colorado Springs.

Around the League: Red-hot Mesa won their sixth straight Monday evening, pounding Gilbert 8-1 behind a Willy Geronimo sixth inning grand slam (20).

Austin got solo home runs from Rick Singleton (37) and Hulk Hoagie (37) as they defeated Fort Worth 4-2 to move to within a game of the Kings for the second ML Wild Card spot. Singleton and Hoagie are both tied for third in the Mountain League in home runs, ten back of league leader Kosuke Matsui.

Chandler defeated Surprise 6-3 on Tuesday evening as the Saguaros hold on as the second DL Wild Card is slipping through their fingers. Mike Anderson (27) and Zach Dossett (32) each homered for the Chiefs.

El Paso got an eighth inning two-run double from Josh Hawk as they rallied to defeat Rio Rancho 5-4 in the opener of a crucial three game series in El Paso. The Express now lead the Owlz by two games in the Central.

Austin scored one in the top of the ninth to tie the game and four in the eleventh as they stunned Fort Worth 7-3 on Tuesday evening to draw level with the Kings in the ML Wild Card race. Hulk Hoagie (38) and Odell Hansen (26) each hit homers in the 11th inning to power the Fire Frogs to the victory. Both teams are 2.5 games back of first place San Antonio, who beat West Texas 8-2.

Salt Lake got a two-run home run from Richie Guerreo in the top of the eighth as they rallied for a 5-4 victroy in Colorado Spirngs to open a three game series.

Henderson completed the two-game sweep of St George, beating the Archers 7-1. Enos Webb led the way for the Silver Knights, going 3 for 4 with two home runs (29,30) and three RBIs. The two losses leave the Archers a game and a half back of Flagstaff and Salt Lake in the ML West, two in the loss column, with three games left.

San Antonio's Kosuke Matsui homered (48) and drove in two, and T.J. Hart homered twice (32,33), as the Javelinas defeated West Texas 9-1 moving closer to a ML East title.

Austin's Ted Martinez went 2 for 3 with a huge three-run home run (1), to help pace the Fire Frogs to a 5-2 victory over Fort Worth, moving ahead of the Kings and into the final ML Wild Card spot alone.

J.P. Grant hit two home runs (21,22) and drove in three and Adolfo Villarreal drove in four runs as Salt Lake slipped past Colorado Springs 7-5 to maintain their position atop the ML West.

The San Diego Seals clinched their first postseason berth in franchise history even in a loss as they fell 9-4 in Las Vegas. The Seals have clinched at least a Wild Card with an outside shot at a Division Title, as they trail Long Beach by three games with three left. The Seals have to sweep the Surf Dawgs to force a one-game playoff.

Ryan Meger was a key player as Prescott took two of three from the Hops.

                        2025 Cleveland Guardians

Guardians finish off their first home stand strong, take AL Central lead

                        Game 1: L 3-0; Win: Michael Lorenzen (1-2), Loss: Hunter Gaddis (0-1)
                        Game 2: W 5-0; Win: Joey Cantillo (2-0), Loss: Alec Marsh (0-3)
                        Game 3: W 4-2; Win: Ben Lively (1-0), Loss: Kris Bubic (0-1)

The series opener was a pitcher’s duel until the 8th inning, when KC was able to load the bases via small ball and a pair of walks before putting on a squeeze play to take a 1-0 lead. They would add two more in the 9th by stringing together a walk and three base hits off of Trevor Stephan. The Guardians offense was cold again, managing only four base hits. They had plenty of bats on balls, but they ended up in hard hit outs or innocent fly balls to the outfield.

Game two was quite the opposite for Cleveland. They were able to shut out KC, while driving in five runs; four of which came off the Royals’ bullpen. Jose Ramirez hit his second home run of the year, Carlos Santana added two more RBI to continue his hot start; and Daniel Schneemann and Will Brennan finally had their bad luck end; contributing a run each. Joey Cantillo had his third strong outing of the year, despite walking two and only striking out one batter. He did the most important thing, keeping KC off the board, and now has an ERA of 0.55!

Salvador Perez left the game in the 7th after a hit and run attempt, as he strained a bicep sliding into second.

The series finale got off to a wild start, with Dairon Blanco leading off with a double and scoring on the next pitch when Maikel Garcia singled. John Means looked tired at outset, and Kansas City was very aggressive on the basepaths, but Means got out of the 1st without any further damage. The Guardians had a hot start of their own, as Lane Thomas came through with his first home run in the inning on a pitch that saw Cole Ragans have to leave the game. It was quickly obvious that it was a dislocated shoulder, and the Royals will now be without their ace for quite some time. They would manage to take the lead in the fifth inning, before Lane Thomas hit his second home run of the game, a 472 foot moonshot off of Chris Stratton. Thomas would then factor in the game winning run in the bottom of the 8th, when he tripled and then scored on Jhonkensy Noel’s sacrifice fly. Emmanuel Clase would give up a lead off double in the ninth but hold on for his second save of the season.

The Guardians had a nice first home stand of the season, going 4-2 against AL Central rivals. They now sit stop the division at 9-6. Cleveland will now have an off day before a six game road trip against the Orioles (9-7) and Pirates (7-9).

Cardinals trade for familiar face Harrison Bader

The Cardinals have made their first trade of the 2025 season by acquiring former Cardinal Harrison Bader from the Twins in exchange for SP Steven Matz and IF Jose Barrero.

The move isn't all that surprising considering the Cardinals need help in the outfield due to poor production and they have a plethora of young arms and infielders. The Twins however are seeking pitching depth due to injuries and another player in the infield adds depth.

This move doesn't give up any young talent and brings in someone who is in the final year of their contract but could also be kept around this offseason depending how things go. Victor Scott isn't ready for the MLB, Michael Siani is struggling at the plate, and Mike Antico is better suited as a backup versus everyday. Plus he was just placed on the IL.

Bader who was in a bench role at Minnesota, will come in and immediately take over everyday centerfield duties and will likely hit leadoff for the Cardinals, with Winn out until at least late August.

The Cardinals are 11.5 games out of the NL Central and 9 games back of the 3rd wilcard spot, but if they can put a good month together in June, then they may find themselves close enough to change their perspective on the trade market in July.

As for the rotation spot left by Matz, the Cardinals could turn to Michael McGreevy, or another young arm, to take that spot. They already got an unexpected boost to the rotation with Matthew Liberatore pitching strong these past few starts.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

BLue Jays demote SP Chris Bassitt to the bullpen.

After another horrible start at home vs Boston enough is enough. Patience for him to get it together is over. Especially after Manoah has been fairly good overall when called upon. Alek will take his spot in the rotation. Chris refuses to go down to the minors and I don't want to place him on waivers either. Hopefully some spot appearances out of the bullpen can slowly get him going.

Here are his season stats thus far: 6 starts. 1-3, 8.89era 26k 9bb
