Phillies win their first home series of the season

    Game 1 : Rockies 3-4 Phillies
    W : Aaron Nola (1-0. 6.0 IP, 8 K, 1 BB, 3 ER)
    L : Austin Gomber (0-1, 5.0 IP, 0 K, 0 BB, 4 ER)
    SV : Matt Strahm (2)

Like in the first games of the season, the Phillies' offense started hot as they took an early 1-0 lead in the first after Alec Bohm drove home Trea Turner, who tripled to start the game. The Rockies then scored two runs in the second and one more in the third inning to take a 3-1 lead. The Phillies' offense went silent until the fifth inning, when Sosa doubled to center, driving in Castellanos while Kepler advanced to third. Weston Wilson followed Sosa with a double as well, allowing Philadelphia to take a 4-3 lead. The score remained the same until the end of the game.

    Game 2 : Rockies 2-5 Phillies
    W : Jesús Luzardo (1-0, 6.0 IP, 6 K, 1 BB, 2 ER)
    L : Kyle Freeland (0-1, 4.2 IP, 4 K, 0 BB, 4 ER)
    SV : Matt Strahm (3)

Even after a day off, the Phillies' offense continued its trend of starting games hot, scoring four of their five runs in the first inning, including a three-run home run by Castellanos (his 3rd of the season). During the first inning, eight batters came to the plate. Then, like in the first game of the series, the offense went from hot to cold, while the Rockies kept their hope alive by hitting two solo home runs. Fortunately, Kyle Schwarber drove in Bohm in the seventh to add some insurance. Matt Strahm then earned his third save of the season to close out the game.

    Game 3 : Rockies 6-4 Phillies
    W : Germán Márquez (1-0, 5.0 IP, 2 K, 1 BB, 3 ER)
    L : Zack Wheeler (1-1, 5.0 IP, 9 K, 0 BB, 4 ER)
    SV : Scott Alexander (1)

Once again, the Phillies took an early lead in the first inning when Kyle Schwarber hit his 3rd home run of the season, a two-run home run. But everything fell apart in the fourth inning for Zac Wheeler, who couldn't quite settle on the mound: the Rockies went deep three times off Wheeler to take a 4-1 lead. In fact, Colorado scored all their runs via home runs, as they ended the game with five homers, while the Phillies also hit three home runs of their own. This game marked the Phillies' first loss of the season, ending a five-game winning streak.

    --

Philadelphia (5-1, tied for first place in the NL East) will stay at home for a 3-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers (4-4).

Cardinals drop series to Reds as pitching woes continue

The Cardinals (33-45) dropped another series, this time to inter-divisional rival Reds. The Cardinals remain 10 games back of the Brewers in the Central.

For the 2nd series in a row the Cardinals bullpen was absolutely atrocious. The Cards bullpen gave up 13 runs over the 3 games and there doesn't appear to be anyone reliable outside of Ryan Helsley and Andre Pallante, though he blew up in the series finale giving up 4 runs without recording an out.

Lars Nootbaar found his stroke at the plate this series collecting 4 hits in just two games played. Nolan Arenado struggled and Willson Contreras continues to disappoint at the dish.

The Cardinals remain home as the rival Cubs come to town for a 4 game weekday series. The Cardinals will then travel to Cleveland for a 3 game weekend series with the Guardians that will close out the month of June.

How are you guys getting around the AI shuffling your lineups when simming? I expected this to be fixed by now, but I noticed the AI pulling bench players and throwing them in the 2-spot.

            Cardinals drop series to Cubs

The Cardinals (34-48) lost 3 games of a 4 game series with the Cubs in St.Louis to begin the week. The Cardinals are now 11 games back of the Brewers in the Central and 10.5 games out of the wildcard.

The Cubs scored 30 runs in the series. The only time they scored less than 8, they scored 5 and the Cards bats were able to overcome that and win the game 7-5. Outside of that the Cards were beaten 8-2, 9-5, and 9-4.

To make matters worse, one starter who was pitching well, Matthew Liberatore, tore his hamstring during his start of the series and will be out for possibly the rest of the season. He may return sometime in September.

Its ugly and we still have half a season to go.

Next up is a 3 game series in Cleveland with the Guardians to close out the month of June.

Matthew Liberatore likely done for season

LHP Matthew Liberatore left his start Wednesday after just 8 pitches with a torn hamstring and will likely miss the rest of the season. Liberatore was a surprise after starting the season in the bullpen at Memphis, as he put together a 3-2 record with a 3.46 ERA over his starts with the Cardinals.

Micheal McGreevy will be recalled from Memphis to take the vacant rotation spot.

              The 2025 Seattle Mariners

This series felt like a great World Series matchup in a world where the really good teams don't exist.

              Series Recap: Padres
              Game 1: W 3-2
              Game 2: L 1-2
              Game 3: W 4-3

The Pink Gorilla Games high performer of the series: Julio Rodriguez: 3 hits, 2 HR, 3 RBI

We finally hit in the first game of the series! Okay, maybe that is a bit euphoric for what happened. I should say Julio hit.
The game started great: Robles with the walk, Julio with the home run to take a 2 run lead. But Bryan Woo keeps his thing going where he gives up no hits at least it's a solo home run so that's what happened in the second half of inning 1 and inning 2. Jackson Merrill and Jake Cronenworth each scored one.
Then it was quiet because Musgrove and Woo both pitched a very good game. Until the 5th inning came and Julio was bored by all that good pitching and hit his second home run of the game. So he ended up batting all 3 runs of the game in.

The second game was a bit frustrating. We took the lead with a solo shot by Raleigh in the 4th inning. The Padres couldn't really get anything going until the 7th inning where they hit multiple balls that fell right before the defender in the outfield. At least 3 hits could have been an out if the defender was one step quicker. But because the pitching was still elite they only got 1 run out of that.
Our 2nd Closer Matt Brash then started the 9th, but gave up 2 walks. Munoz tried to save the game from there on, but in the end the Padred bunted twice to get the walkoff run in.

Game 3 was dominated by small ball by the Mariners. My favorite sequence was a strong double by rookie Cole Young, who went on to steal 3rd, before Robles brought him home with a single in the next AB.
Overall it was the night of Victor Robles: 4 hits, 1 triple and one double.
Other then that Raleigh, Ruiz and Solano brought one run home each. Matt Waldron just never got control in the game.
But the Padres kept it close. Elias Diaz hit a great RBI triple, Jackson Merrill stole 3 bases. They had runners in scoring position in the 9th to tie or win the game but Andres Munoz earned the save with some nasty pitches against the top of the lineup.

Winning 2 out of 3 against the Padres, who started well with 27-15, is a win in my book. Next we have 3 in Chicago against the White Sox and we really need a sweep here!

Cardinals take series from Guardians in Cleveland

The Cardinals (36-49) won their series against the Guardians over the weekend in Cleveland. The Cardinals are now just 9 games out of the division and wildcard as the Brewers were swept by the Rockies.

Pitching was significantly better this series until the Sunday finale. The pitching staff gave up 4 runs total in the first two games as the offense was good as well. On Sunday Michael McGreevy, Zach Thompson, and John King would get beat up as the Guardians put up 12 runs in route to a 12-1 win to avoid the sweep.

There wasn't one individual who stood out offensively in this series as it was a culmination of the entire lineup that got key hits and drove in runs in the first two games. Sunday, nobody really did anything.

The Cardinals will now turn to the month of July and start focusing on the draft and trade market. The Cardinals will be sellers this July, although its not expected to be a fire sale. They will be reluctant to trade anyone that they have control over or under contract next season.

As of now the Cardinals have let clubs know that Erick Fedde, Nick Anderson, and Harrison Bader (yes they acquired him and are looking to move him) are available.

The Cardinals will kick off the busy month of July with a 3 game series in Pittsburgh against the Pirates.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

RTTS : Thomas & Walker keep rolling, rolling, rolling...

                  Frank Thomas - 6’5 - 240 - 1B
                  Team: Chattanooga Lookouts (Cincinnati Reds)
                  21 years old - AA - 63 overall
                  Top 100 Prospects: 3rd / MLB ETA: 2025

                  Last Series: 6G / 11 for 30 / 1 HR / 5 RBI
                  2025 Stats: 15G / .373 BA / .377 OBP / .582 SLG / .959 OPS / 6 2B / 10 RBI

Performance: After a timid start in this series, The Big Hurt found his rhythm and delivered with 5 RBIs in the last 4 games while continuing to make good contact with the ball. “I’m a bit behind the fastball, but I’m really on with the off speed pitches, which was something I looked to get better at.” said the 1st basemen. Thomas continued his strong season start in AA. Scouts around the league now project he can get to the majors this year. “We’ll wait and take it one game at the time, if you don’t mind!” Thomas added.

Team: This was a good series, baseball wise. Close games, with some great pitching at times, and some amazing offensive battles in others. The Lookouts got out of Knoxville with 4 wins while the Smokies got 2. Per Lookouts manager after the series: “These two teams are a match made in heaven; baseball wise. Already looking for our next battle.”

                  Lookouts: 10W – 5L – 0.0 GB - 1st in Southern League North
Next: vs Columbus Clingstones (8W – 7L, 2nd in SL South)

                  **********
                  Larry Walker - 6’3 - 235 - RF
Team: Hartford Yard Goats (Colorado Rockies)
                  18 years old - AA - 59 overall
                  Top 100 Prospects: 3rd / MLB ETA: 2026

                  Last Series: 6G / 10 for 21 / 1 HR / 6 RBI
                  2025 Stats: 15G / .361 BA / .385 OBP / .541 SLG / .926 OPS / 5 2B / 12 RBI

Performance: Walker was stellar in that series, batting for .476 and getting his hitting streak to 15 games. “Canada’s has maple syrup, bacon, and Larry Walker!” said a smiling 1B coach Tanaka Yoshida. Yoshida was in the perfect place to see his young RF play a strong series and hitting the ball well. “He’s patient, he’s focus, he’s doing it the way you expect a 22 or 23 years-old guy to do things.” added the 1B coach.

Team: One to you, one to me, one to you, and that’s enough, get off my lawn! It was the thinking for the Yard Goats in that series. They ended up winning 4 out of 6 and offense was on display with 27 runs in 6 games. “We played good overall baseball and did what we had to do to go out on top. Now’s time to hit the road and keep rolling!” said Walker.

                  Yard Goats: 8W – 7L – 1.0 GB – 3rd in Eastern League Northeast

                    The 2025 Seattle Mariners

Our first goal was the sweep, the second goal was to give players a break. Both worked out pretty well!

                    Series Recap: White Sox
                    Game 1: W 10-1
                    Game 2: W 2-1
                    Game 3: W 3-1

The Pink Gorilla Games high performer of the series: Randy Arozarena: 6 hits, 2 HR, 7 RBI

The first game was one of my favorite games of the season. We played without Julio and Solano who had a huge part in our offense so far this season and still put some serious runs together.
The main man was Randy Arozarena. 1 3 run HR, 1 3 run double and he even added another double in the game.
The other highlight was the first Home Run in the career of Cole Young, who ended up batting in 3 runs. And then there was Esteury Ruiz with 4 hits in 4 AB which ended in 4 runs. I really like that guy!

Game 2 was a different story. Drew Thorpe is rocking a 2.22 ERA so far in this season and he continued that path against us with a very good performance. He only allowed 1 hit in 5 innings. For some reason they took him out and we were able to score 2 runs, 1 each in the 6th and 7th. Another RBI for Cole Young, who is taking more and more play time away from J.P. Crawford who just can't get into the season.
Luis Robert hit a solo shot in the 8th to make things close, but Matt Brash got his 4th save of the season.

In game 3 we carried an early 3-0 lead into the 9th inning, where things finally got a bit tight because Trent Thornton got himself into a bit of trouble with 2 hits. Rookie Kyle Teel brought a run home with a RBI double, but Thornton then recored 3 Ks to end the inning.

Every key player got some rest in each game, we got the sweep and nobody got hurt. That's all you can take away from a series like that.

Tough spot you're in. Not out enough to sell the house, not in enough to reload.

Do you see any chance you're buying some present talent or are you only looking for the future?

The only present talent I’d consider is bullpen arms, but not at the expense of prospects.

I’m going to use the 2nd half of the season as a chance to look at a few guys who are playing well in the minors. Not many but maybe 2 or 3 to fill voids left by players traded off 26 man roster

Astros take two of three versus Cincy

Houston took two of three from Cincinnati during their three game weekend series. The Astros got on the board first in game one when Brendan Rodgers took Andrew Abbott deep in the first inning, his third homerun of the season. The Reds answered back when Jake Fraley hit his 5th in the third inning to tie it at 1-1. Fraley would be a thorn in Houston's side for the rest of the game as he tallied 4 hits in 5 at bats with the homerun and three RBI's that helped lead Cincy to the game one victory, 8-2.

Ronel Blanco got the start for the Astros in game two but that didnt last long. After he threw his first pitch to the Reds' second batter, Santiago Espinal, Ronel was seen trying to shake out his right arm. That led to trainers checking on him and ultimately deciding to remove him from the game with what was believe to be, forearm tightness. Since then, it has been confirmed that he will not have to miss any more time.

Lance Mcculers JR came in as the 'backup' starter and was great. In fact, he probably made himself a case for taking over Cristian Javier's rotation spot of Javier continues to struggle. Mcculers pitches 7.2 while he allowed 5 scattered hits and 1 run.

The Reds starter, Hunter Greene had his electric strikeout stuff but only managed 3.2 innings due to pitch count. He did strike out 5 but also allowed 4 hits and 3 runs. Those runs came via a Christian Walker RBI on a fielders choice in the first inning and a two run HR by Yainer Diaz in the third.

The Astros went on to win game two, 5-2. They then took the series after winning game three 4-3. That lead was obtained in the 7th inning when Chas Mccormick doubled in Jake Meyers who had walked earlier in the inning. Josh Hader got the save, his 11th of the season.

The Astros will now finish off their homestand with three versus Kansas City (22-20/3rd AL Central).

It was a tough first road series of the year. The first two games saw the Jays having leads late in the game. The first game was blown in the 8th by Garcia. In the second, Hoffman gave up a solo shot with two outs and two strikes to Jose Siri to tie the game. The Jays couldn’t score in the 10th and the Mets walked it off. Game 3, the offence took over and didn’t allow the bullpen a chance to blow it.

Nick Sandlin has been dealing with shoulder inflammation and was placed on the IL. Kenyan Middleton was called up from AAA to take his spot. The bullpen has been unsettled to start the year with Swanson, Burr and Sandlin injured. Hoffman and Garcia off to slow starts. Amir Garrett has been a surprise and has yet to allow a run.

The Blue Jays also announced that they called up Addison Barger from AAA before the series against Boston. Nathan Lukes was sent to AAA after starting the year hitting .143. Barger should get some run and will join Will Wagner in the lineup regularly against RHP after Ernie Clement has started the year very slowly.

Next up, Four against Boston in Fenway!

After the Mets 7-0 home opener win, they get blanked 1-0 in the next game. Solo shot in third was enough for the Blue Jays. Mets had one shot to tie the game late. After back to back hits by Lindor and Soto, it was first and third with one out. But Alonso grounded into an inning ending double play and that was that.

Final game of the series the Mets fell behind 2-0 after two innings. But bottom Third Nimmo with a three run blast to change the game. In the fourth Alonso added a two run blast for a 5-2 lead and that was the final. Diaz got his third save as the Mets go to 7-2 on the season holding first place.

Next up the Marlins come into town.
