Re: What Are You Working On? - MLB The Show 23 Edition

I got all the mundane offline stuff done in both Postseason programs. I've grinded a ton the last two days and definitely burned myself out on The Show catching up. With the new online stat missions making the program grind quicker, I figured I'd just grind some event games to try and get those done without caring about winning. The event rewards have been so bad that it's not even real incentive to play for me. So I'd literally just be playing for the sake of the missions.

I jumped into one like 30 minutes ago. First time online since the ShowZone Beta and first Event game in MONTHS. Person I played was spamming R2 relentlessly lmao

I'm going to have two weeks off work so I'll have time to get these programs done. I need to get back into Starfield and Forza just came out, too.

I'm in a weird spot with The Show. Normally I'm done with the game at this point because I hate the gameplay and the content is still really good but no desire to play. I enjoy the gameplay this year but content has been so, idk, washed that all the new cards just feel like repeats of cards we've been using. Like the Division series cards were pretty decent, but there's a lot of repeat cards and depending on who wins the World Series we'll probably get more repeat 99's.

I'm excited to see Set 5 because the new Sets always bring a ton of content. But they've also followed the same cadence all year so the excitement goes away fast. I hope they release a ton of AMAZING Captains so we can just go nuts with Captain builds the rest of the year before everything is unlocked.

Took me about an hour to do the extreme moment... 16 tb with 3 outs. I had playoff game on in the background so was kind've distracted but hitting well. Got to 15 tb a few times and **** the bed.

Got to 9 tb with zero outs a ton of times and then got two quick outs...

Then I was king of 100mph+ off the bat double plays

Re: What Are You Working On? - MLB The Show 23 Edition

Played br and was ehhh... Some good games, lots of lag, took a minute to find games.

Was kind've losing 1 winning 2 type deal. Felt like I was beating some people that were better and losing to some who were worse.

Went ahead and played two ranked against skenes and Walter Johnson. Won both games with rage quits. I'm up to 32-0 but the ranked games felt real smooth

Hoping Corbin Carroll gets a post season card cause I'm hitting 478 in 67 abs with him online. Hr every 3.941 abs. Everyone seems to hate his swing but he's crazy good for me. Still batting him 9th on my God squad but hate to lose him in a few days 😢

Adley I'm batting 518 in 56 abs with hr every 4.3 abs.

adolis garcia is a pretty juicy card....don't know about his swing and I think ryan thompson and aaron nola might be good.

the two halloween programs I think I'm gonna go ahead and skip those

already have kluber/betts/foxx so not much incentive to grind out anything else...will finish off BR for darvish and prob never use him.

garcia is max con/power with runners in scoring position, diamond defense, and 73 speed or so....thats a worthy card for a program

still wish we would've gotten a playoff harper/carroll/turner by now. I think set 3 carroll might be my best card of the year so far

No need to skip the Halloween programs when the secret missions will automatically trigger when you’re doing other things.

Has anyone even established what these are? I unlocked like 4 trick and 2 treat after a random conquest game where I didn't feel like I did anything special lmao

Hopped online quick to try and finish a single online mission to finish the CS program.

Forgot to turn crossplay off, so every game was disgustingly laggy. People spamming R2. Perfect/Perfect lineouts all over the place, even against Bronze pitchers. Including a linedrive off the pitcher's back that popped into the air and was caught for an out.

Just kept going because I literally don't care about the event, just wanted ONE online mission knocked out to finish that program.

Last game I face the knuckleballer that was avoided all year and suddenly event eligible. Square up two balls, including a P/P that are both outs.

I'm ready for the new game lmao

I have no idea, and Reddit seems light on info as well. I think I’m 10 points short on Trick and 5 points short on finishing Treat, after just doing the Champ Series program offline and a couple of Topps Now Miniseason games.

Only did the moments, one vs CPU on Rookie game, and the CS Conquest map to finish that program. Had two leftover Miniseason vouchers from the WC round to help finish that off. The vs CPU game was huge for vouchers, presumably from some combination of more than 13 hits, runs, and Ks in that game.

I think the biggest issue with SDS is they just do the same stuff all year. Even before sets and seasons, like the content structure is identical each month all year. Extreme used to feel like a change of pace but they don't really do anything special or unique. It's just the same kind of programs all year.

I think the massive amount of cards released this year ironically made that worse. All the Diamond Duos cards were pretty bad for the most part. All the best cards were the chase cards and collections, which meant there wasn't as much variety despite all the different cards.

Then of course the online rewards were completely neutered this year which made the prospects of playing online feel bad because the rewards were worse than the cards you used to earn them.

I don't really know what the overall goal was with this content structure and that's coming from someone that likes the idea of sets and seasons

In fairness, I don't think that the Sets/Seasons are entirely the culprit.

It's the fact that every season has had a Team Affinity (with the exact SAME mission structure...5 moments per division, 3 conquest maps, 3 showdowns. mini season, PXP missions, etc.), the same general program structure, etc. Season 5, we will get a flashback, Captain and Finest for each team, we will get a TA collection, we will get a main program with 5 "bosses", 3 Set collection rewards, blah blah blah...

Now card collecting modes DO tend to be fairly formulaic, so I can't totally go after SDS there. But, when you throw mostly redundant rewards (like they have this year with so many 99s) on top of the redundant content and it's a pretty monotonous mode overall.

IMO, I think that if they had this content structure in-place all year BUT without the "99s all year" motif (i.e. going back to the more traditional "power creep" model), I think things would have flowed a lot better (Captains would have made more sense, Sets would have had some clearer delineation, and the Wild Card slot would have taken a more prominent tactical role).

                          Finest this Friday!

Played two more ranked games and won so now 34-0

Hitting like 500 with Carroll and Adley. 0-7 with jrod but squared some stuff up and his 100 power plays like 75. I'll still prob use him a while bc I like elite defense up the middle.

                          C Adley
                          Lf carroll

Set 5 team gonna be looking much different. Will probably sub in Carlos Santana at c, tatis to rf, trout to cf, and maybe mookie to 2nd?

SDS announcing that TA 5 will feature each team getting a 99 Finest AND a 99 Retro Finest.

That's...interesting and definitely not something I expected them to do. I was honestly thinking about skipping Season 5 because I really don't care about the 2023 Finest cards - but them including the Retro Finest on top of that piques my curiosity a bit.

I am still on-board with what papadell has been saying for awhile now; I'd REALLY like to see them roll out some super cool, high-end Captain cards (outside of team-specific/TA-specific Captains). Maybe use those as the 5 program "bosses". I don't think that's going to happen - but one can dream...

I was hoping that TA 5 would have the legend bosses as the endgame captains. But if they're just retro finest that isn't happening.

If the programs are identical and there's nothing more fun or refreshing to do, then I wonder if all 99s and big names will tide people over. There's obviously going to be some great cards coming you'd think but it might be too late to get a lot of people back.

Ah I see...I'm personally less inclined to use "team captains" vs thematic captains. I'd rather see them smash it out of the park with some crazy good thematic captain cards (like 1990s hitters, 1970s/1980s pitchers, a Switch-hitter captain, etc.) as main program bosses.

Either way, I don't know if what they do will keep people engaged. I'd be shocked if they changed the paradigm for the actual content and after having 99s all year, I don't know that the inclusion of two 99s per team in TA is going to be alluring enough.
