The commentating in the game opening needs to be updated. Matt still introduces Yankee Stadium with the same lines as in 2009 when it actually was the brand new ballpark in the Bronx. After that "Soup" adds that it's going to take time for the players to learn the ins and outs of the new park. It's been three years, I'm sure people are fairly accustomed to the nuances of the new park.
Same here, may have been mentioned before but I'm not trawling through 50-odd pages.

The whole commentary needs a refresh; I've played 09, 10 and now 11 and it gets boring having heard the same lines for the last 2 years.

I thought that the replacement of Hudler with Karros would bring a bit of a change to the commentary, but I'm rather disappointed that Karros is uttering a lot of the lines that Hudler used, only re-hashed slightly.

Still, I won't let it detract from another fantastic outing for The Show, I'm particularly enjoying trying to get to grips with analog pitching and batting (not a fan of analog fielding after several error-strewn performances).

Re: Official MLB 11 The Show - Impressions Thread

Played 3 games and did nothing but throw minimum powered fastballs right down the middle of the plate (on HOF level). In the past I felt I didn't get punished enough for playing this way and wanted to see how this played out in MLB 11. I challenged the CPU to blow me out and here are the results (note: not every pitch went right down the middle, that's just where I was aiming.)

      GAME 1:

      Angels (Piniero) at Reds (CPU)
      Lost 8-2
      CPU batting avg .405 / 3 doubles / 2 HR's

      GAME 2:

      Brewers (Wolf) at Reds (CPU)
      Lost 8-6
      CPU batting avg .404, 3 doubles / 3 HR's

      GAME 3:

      Brewers (Wolf) at Reds (CPU)
      Lost 17-4
      CPU batting avg .560 / 7 doubles / 7 HR's (Bruce of the Reds had 3!)

      Total points: 33-12

I like what I'm seeing here, and the games with lower scores could've been higher because all the outs were pretty solid hits - they just happened to find fielders.

In the first game I played with the Angels, and I have a pretty good feel for how good there defense is. In the last two games I used the Brewers who are ranked 30th in "D". The difference was definately noticeable but not overblown. A couple times the Brewers looked like they just came from the Brewery The Angels made plays the Brewers didn't and it saved them some runs. There was one highlight though which saved MIL two runs...

Negatives: A low outside pitch getting pulled for a HR right down the 3rd base line next to the foul pole. In replay the bat was at an angle which should've made the ball go to right center. Also, an opposite field HR was thrown middle in and hit the smaller part of the bat?

The other baseball games are way ahead of you guys on hit variety. I think I mentioned that already but just wanted to confirm after several more games I still feel the same way.

        Good stuff Swaldo.

The improvements to the A.I. (on HOF) are wonderful...in my limited time pitching on that level.

I'm loving it so far. Very realistic feeling.

Yea, so far HOF pitching feels about right. And the fact I aimed right down the middle but CPU hitting wasn't "too" juiced was encouraging. I think the stats looked reasonably realistic for throwing nothing but 92 mph fastballs in the zone. But that's a guess because who knows how good real life batters would do in that situation? It's not batting practice, yet if they know what pitch is coming every time they should have a high average & some power.

Yeah, the reason why hitting is so rewarding is because hits are so tough to come by. One doesn't often see too many double digit hit games in the box scores.

Imagine how fast this game would become boring if we were getting 12-18 hits a game and 3-5 bombs a game.

I diasgree, BTW. I only turned off 2 songs that SCEA provided and added about 50 of my own.

I feel the same way. Just adding a greater variety of hit ball physics would enhance many aspects of the game. Fielding would be more fun that way.

I like reading swaldo's impressions. Hits the sweet spot with me.

Ok. I have a AA 3B in the minors right now. He is currently in the Braves organization after being traded from the Pirates. Here are the ridiculous trades that have happen and it is the last week of July in 2011(That would never happen in real life) :Chipper Jones got traded for relief pitching in May. June 26, Braves traded Jair Jurrjens, Peter Moylan and David Ross for J. Walden, E. Shantz, and E. Machado...wtf? Just now, July 24 the Braves traded Freddie Freeman for Steven Hill because B-Mac got a minor injury....seriously, how unrealistic is that?

They know, somehow the changes they made months either got negated, or not added.

                    They are working on it.

As soon as I sent this, I went back into the game and the very next day, I got traded to St Louis along with some closer no name for Albert Pujols....seriously? lol

What was the 'no name' closer's potential? What's your Rttts player's potential? How many years does Pujols have on his contract? Where were the Cardinals in the standings, and where were the Braves?

This stuff matters! It's tied into the logic. Maybe on the surface, Pujols for two prospects isn't overwhelming. But a last place Cardinals with a player in the final year of his deal may try to get some prospects rather than nothing (depending on their offseason budget). The Braves may also want a rental (in Pujols) to solidify their playoff chances.

The stuff I laid out for you may or may not be true in your case, but, my point is generalizing doesn't help SCEA with a correction. These moves may or may not make sense depending on circumstance.

My RttS player's potential is A and the other guy's potential is C. Pujols was in the last year of his deal. Braves were currently in 3rd place 11 games behind the Phillies and Marlins and 8 out in the wildcard standings.

Couldn't agree with you more. As much as I'm loving The Show '11, I'll be looking to pick up this years version of that great game from the East to satisfy my need for more authentic batting physics and hit variety.

I don't believe my eyes. I just saw an outfielder misplay a carom off the wall in the gap allowing me to get to third. Scored a 2B E8.
