The Show has lost its 'Realism' luster
Sup Guys! Let me first say that by no means is the Show not the best baseball sim game out there, 2K just doesn't try...
That said, I can no longer give this game any support in the realism department. Examples...why yes I do...
1. Fielding - The number one biggest complaint this year is the unassisted fielding. Players get caught on a programmed route towards a ball and you can't change it. It doesn't matter that you have 3 extra seconds to get infront of the ball so you can make a better throw to that sacrifice runner...the programmed catch will let your outfielder jog his way to the ball like theres no urgency for the play...
As for infield fielding, it seems every other inning my 2B or SS is diving for a ball or 'somersaulting' after getting to the ball when there is clearly no need for it and I don't even hit a button for it...irks me to no end
2. Pitching - I know its never been perfect and will never be perfect...but this year is atrocious. I'm 68 games into a dynasty and I notice key don't-dos in MLB that the computer gets away with all the time.
First is the sinker, I play in the same division as C. Zambrano, F. Carmona, J. Westbrook (Fantasy Draft u think?)...All have great Sinkers and they do nothing but leave the pitch UP in the zone. When Sinkerball pitchers leave that pitch up in the zone, it gets smashed!!! But in this game it is just another groundball or weak fly ball...its sooooo annoying, I should be killing a high sinker.
Second is sliders, If I'm a RHP pitcher against a righty batter and the slider is set breaking away from the hitter AND located on the outside of the plate...IT IS SOOOOO unlikely that the hitter gets in front of the pitch and pulls it down the line for a HR...Which happens 3-4 a game on All-Star right now. Yes, I am locating the pitch fine for most part even out of the Strike zone...C.C. Sabathia and Josh Johnson make a living doing this but can't do it in this game...
Third is just simply the CPU pitching control...I am a realistic, patient hitter at the plate. I like to take walks and make the game as sim as possible. The CPU whether Javier Vazquez, Garrett Mock, Bruce Chen, or Joe Borowski is pitching just will never walk anybody. I average 1.7 BBs a game which is NOTHING.
I could go on and on...but I'll stop. Maybe I'm spoiled because I've been playing the same game for 4 years and the imperfections are finally just getting to me as they repeat year after year. I really haven't seen any improvement in franchise mode in 3 years with this game...I'll give 2K credit as they had an analog system for years so this analog stuff isn't even new or exciting...I really hope it improves in the next 2/3 of my season! The Buckeyes WILL prevail!Comment

Re: The Show has lost its 'Realism' luster
While I'm sorry you're not enjoying the game, I completely disagree on almost every point.
1 - My experience so far is that fielding has never been better (compared to '09 and '10). The 'suction' is reduced, ratings matter like never before, it's been truly a joy to play defense this year and adjust my strategy as appropriate.
2 - Sinkers do need some work, in the future one of my wishes is to see 'tendencies' for pitchers and hitters (induce ground balls vs. fly balls, etc.). I've had no issue at all so far with breaking pitches out of the zone being pulled for HR's. I can't think of a singe time it's happened to me.
3 - Have you adjusted any sliders? Drawing walks seems to be different for every person, try to find a combination that works for you.
As far as realism, I've never played a sports game that has come even lose to replicating its respective sport like The Show '11.Last edited by sink4ever; 04-03-2011, 01:09 PM.Comment

Yah, normally I can see where someone is coming from, but I couldn't disagree more with the OP on this one.Comment

As far as ratings..these are horrible and completely off in the game. I adjust all 30-teams before I start a franchise. There's issues with how the current system works and players that should either be one dimensional (offense / defense) do not have the full value, because their overall rating would be too high.
Again, I when I finish my first season or get halfway through, I will know better. But I understand what the OP is stating. You don't win 103 games with Pit (or Wash) by having the worst batting stats in the AL and NL, and #1 in most pitching stats. Playing the an individual game and it being close is definitely awesome and the way you can get addicted to the game (as in how I finished seasons with Pit/Was). But how you get there is not completely 'realistic'.Comment

more impressions:
the game is finally growing on me. I guess it just took me time to get back into baseball mode.
The only thing that bothers me is that The game still feels scripted and predictable.
Ive been playing since 06, skipped 09. but what I find is that the double plays are still predictable, homers are predictable and even the save situatons using certain closers are predictable. By now Sony should have phased the predicatbility out.Comment

I have 85 errors in 15 games in my season. YIKES!!!! This analog fielding has had me at wits end! But I think I've finally figured it out. I went through a stretch were every throw to first was an error. Every single one.
I finally had to turn on the meter. I played a few games where all I did was field for both teams, and finally figured out there is a little bar area for each base you have to get the arrow in in order for it to be more accurate.
Since figuring this out the fielding is incredibly enjoyable. I love the added difficulty. It makes you actually pay attention to every play.
No more no brainer button presses, I am actually challenged at fielding which makes me want to play it. Very nice. I was determined to get the analog down for fielding as I like the greater chance for errors.Originally posted by Anthony BourdainThe celebrity chef culture is a remarkable and admittedly annoying phenomenon. Re: Official MLB 11 The Show - Impressions Thread
okay!!!
is there any way to make this game less predictable!!!
the game plays like a scripted "feel good movie".
the game plays like a greatest sports highlights presentation. where the star always hits the game winning home run or like the closer always gets in a jam and strikes out the last batter.
is there a clutch slider some where that can be turned off.
game is enjoyable but come on now!!! can I please have less predictabilityComment

Re: Official MLB 11 The Show - Impressions Thread
Too many key throwing errors, so I finally went back to buttons. At least I can control the velocity where as the meter the CPU based on the players attributes does all the work. Hopefully MLB12 will improve the throwing aspect. Though I am sure plenty of folks have no prob with it.NFL - Dallas Cowboys, MLB - NY Yankees
NBA - Knicks, NHL - NY Rangers,
NCAABB - St. Johns Redmen (Redstorm)Comment

Re: Official MLB 11 The Show - Impressions Thread
just that the game is too predictable, for my tastes. I always know when Ill hit into a double play, alwasy know that Papelbon always seem to work his way into a jam then strike out the last batter, how about a save situation when he doesnt get into a jam. or how about him blowing the save.
not commenting on whether it plays like baseball or not. Man this game is predictable, Id like to play a baseball game (like 2k's)where I really have no feel or idea of how a game is going to end up.
hitting the game winning home run in the bottom of the ninth is so cliche-ish. happens way too much.
the happy ending script happens way too much!!!Comment
