Re: Official MLB 11 The Show - Impressions Thread

Had a great game last night, Texas at Minnesota, I'm losing 5-3 in the top of the 9th when I rally to tie 5-5 and go on to win 6-5 in 11. What made the game great was the little things, I saw 2 outfield errors, one was a complete misjudge on the CPU Centerfielder on a popup. The other was a wild pitch in the dirt and a rushed throw to third as I advanced my runner, the play was close at 3rd but the cpu catcher threw it into left field and I tied the game. This was one of the games that just had a little of everything and I enjoyed it so much.

On other news my 7 year old son is starting to play and he jacked his first homer, I was on the phone in the other room and I hear him yelling "Dad, Dad, Dad, I hit a homer!" It was like Christmas, Awesome.

I actually love that a game takes awhile. It gives each game it's own identity. I just play for how long I can, save it then continue when I can.

Man, I take 2 days off from the game and I'm back to being terrible at Analog hitting. It's looking like I'm going to have to just cave in and go with Timing for my Franchise and stricly use Analog for RTTS/Home Run Derby. I just don't have the ability to play this game every day and when I get back into the game, I don't always have time for a 30-minute batting practice session to get my timing with the stick down.

I'll mention it again: I love the mechanic of Analog hitting, minus moving the R-stick to the left or right. Combine Analog with Timing's PCI placement and you've got the ultimate, imo.

I did rob my first-ever HR last night in a Spring Training game, so that was cool.

This just reinforces how hard it is to make a game that suits the wide gamut of players out there. We've got some people saying SCEA should have included the option to control the PCI placement with the left stick even when using analog hitting with the right stick (much more challenging), and then others saying that even moving the right stick to the left or right is too tricky.

That's why I love SCEA's approach of leaving options in the game when they add new features. Don't like analog hitting? Fine, you can play with the old zone hitting setup. Does zone too hard? No problem, there's timing hitting as well.

The other developers need to take note of this. Stop taking out options of our game! It's maddening (pun intended).

No doubt. I'm very thankful that SCEA INCLUDED new options and KEPT IN all of the old options. Heck, they even tweaked things to give us EXTRA options when it comes to hitting as we've not got pure Zone to go with Analog and Timing.

There really is no good reason to ever take options away from a gamer, because as you've said, there's never going to be a control system that pleases 100% of the audience.

I've accepted my shortcomings with Analog hitting and I've moved on to Timing and am having a great time. I'm still using Analog for pitching and fielding, and those are two welcome changes for me, so it does still make MLB 11 feel a lot different than MLB 10 in that regard.

BTW, RSpencer, I like you avatar, although I knew as soon as Gus was slated to call Syracuse's games in the first 2 rounds that the Orange were going down. Gus should be doing the Final Four, imo.

Something that was pretty neat... I was the Mets playing the D-backs with Johan Santana pitching. He struck out 15 in the game and they showed a sequence of all 15 punchouts.

I definitely agree. There's something for just about everyone. I do wish we could control the PCI with analog, but maybe next year.

I don't know where to put this, so I will put it here. I just had a walkoff suicide squeeze with Tony Gywnn to beat the Giants!

Do you mean Jr? or did some one create a real Gywnn on the vault? Still that is bad ***. I hit a walk off HR against the Dbacks. Felt so cool!!

Starlin Castro for example killed me in a game with his range. Literally nothing was getting through. While SS with less range were letting thier pitcher down a lot more.

I couldn't be happier about the changes to this game defensively.

That said, yes guys still are really good at playing the ball off the walls again. But how do you code the AI to be bad at angles?

Im just amazed at how clean the game looks and plays.

Last year was my 1st yr playing The Show, and was impressed by that factor of it, and this year's game looks better.
