Re: Official MLB 11 The Show - Impressions Thread

thank goodness for cloud saves. Earlier this week, I corrupted my franchise save file due to hitting the power button on my surge protector while the game was saving.

So, I loaded up a backup and have moved forward. Problem is that I had gotten lazy at backing up saves, and lost about 3 weeks worth(in game) of baseball.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

I got the game on its release date. I impress as I am every the MLB the show. They keep making strides going in the right direction. The game has many options and I like the fact that you can mix and match how you play the game. Either with analog or not. I think their commentary is not as bad as people make out to be. The 2k commentary might fluid and fresh, but SCEA does a very good job in that area...

Re: Official MLB 11 The Show - Impressions Thread

To really nobodies surprise, the fielding in the game is once again its weakest point. Seemingly pre-determined animations turn routine ground ball outs into infield singles, because the computer has no concept of urgency. I am tired of seeing my catcher loaf after a bunt right in front of the plate.

Also, something that supposedly was fixed, but isn't: CPU outfielders still take the absolute perfect route to every ball hit in the gap, and play every ball off the wall perfectly. I hit one off the oddly shaped wall at Minute Maid tonight, and Carlos Lee camps out exactly where the ball is going to bounce, before it even hits the wall. Baserunner on 1st, who, unless it's Jim Thome or Bengie Molina, is going to score, has to hold up at 3rd.

CPU fielders still make way too many diving stops in the infield. Tried bumping Fielder Reaction Time and Fielder speed all the way down, still doesn't work. Dan Uggla is Roberto Alomar in this game.

Still like the game though. Game engine, especially in the fielding, is starting to show its age. That tends to happen when you're still using the same engine you used back on the Playstation 2.

Its funny you say that. I love the changes to defense. You can tell the difference between good, bad and great fielders. Starlin Castro for example killed me in a game with his range. Literally nothing was getting through. While SS with less range were letting thier pitcher down a lot more.

I couldn't be happier about the changes to this game defensively.

That said, yes guys still are really good at playing the ball off the walls again. But how do you code the AI to be bad at angles?

Wow legend is intense, I just got the yankees suck trophy the legit way and the cpu tears you up when you throw a bad pitch.

I was up 5-3 with the phillies and won the game in the top of the 9th with men on the corners and stuck out granderson on a VERY questionable strike 3 call lol.

Loved the atmosphere though from the game, fun stuff!

They actually do take bad angles now...not all the time.....not often...probably not even enough!...but it does happen.

                  Wow!

I have been playing this game for years (love it to death) ...and I FINALLY got myself to play the "Homerun Derby"

All I can say is, "Wow...so much fun!!"

-I hadn't ever played it, and I was literally "smiling" for the first half hour...the mechanics are GREAT and I absolutely love the feel to it! I took 'user' control to all 8 competitors and had an ABSOLUTE BLAST!

                    very solid game,
but it takes too long to get through one game, even with the adjusted settings.
I mean it really takes too long. if gaming was my only profession I wouldnt mind the amount of time it takes to get through one game.

                      Also,
I noticed last night my buddy was playing online and it was really really quick no extra animations after K's or outs just right to the next batter. There was also minimal lag.

I'm excited to test out the Stadium sounds, I set it up but I'm on a road streak.

It does take very long to get through games, even with replays off. I play around a game a day, sometimes I turn off replays. But If I have a decent lead I'll sim til I'm in the field again.

I found it well balanced enough IMO. But I would like fielders to have more natural positioning on high fly balls when lot of wind. Now they just calculate landing spot right spot on.

I don't want more dropped ball but would like to see them struggling a bit with the wind effect ( moving a bit to the right, a bit to the left).

How does one learn how to set up these various "sounds." I've trolled around in the Sounds of the Show forum but haven't really seen specific instructions.
