Re: Official MLB 11 The Show - Impressions Thread
I had 09, skipped 10 and I am loving 11. To me analog is so much better than buttons. I struggled with zone hitting and I find I have a better eye for the ball with just analog hitting. Kudos to Sony for brining the love of baseball back to me. My son who is 7 and daughter 9 both love playing the HR derby and love watching me play the game.I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me!

Re: Official MLB 11 The Show - Impressions Thread
First time playing the Show, as I finally got a PS3. I was a big MVP fan, played that for a long time on PC with all the updates, since 2K has been terrible.
Using analog everything right now. Absolutely love the pitching, so realistic. Love that if you do something wrong with the meter, the ball reacts appropriately. So on 0-2, you can put everything you have into a curve ball, knowing that if you go to far, you will bounce it, and that's ok. Throwing a 2-0 curve is risky because you know you need a strike so you don't want to overthrow it, but you risk hanging it. Same with every pitch. MVP had a nice start with there meter, but if you missed your spot, it was just random what would happen Played a few games with it, and I'm getting better. Got bombed my first game, did ok but not great my 2nd game, 3rd game I threw 5.2 no hit innings with Phil Hughes. Left him in to long and he lost the lead, and then I struggled spotting Mo's cutter in the 9th and lost the game, it breaks so much.
Still struggling with the hitting. Getting about 5 hits a game, hit a few homeruns. Ton of strikeouts though, probably about 15 a game so far. I'm glad they added it though, I've never been a big fan of zone hitting. I know I'm in the minority, but I actually thought MVP had the best approach to hitting. Not a big fan of the guess pitch feature, I've always thought guessing the pitch and location should be something you do mentally, and that alone will give you an advantage if you guess right. Don't think it should be displayed graphically. I might turn it off, but I don't know if that will put me at a disadvantage since the game was probably designed to use it. I think I'll like the hitting though, have to actually start making more contact before I can judge how realistic it is, lol.
Fielding, I love that ratings matter. Only played a few games, but I can already easily tell the difference between the good fielders and bad fielders. Teixeira's made bunch of great plays down the line already. Jeter and A-Rod are basically statues. Twice in the 9th inning of my last game I thought I had potential double play balls, but they went under the glove of a lunging A-Rod. I don't like the throwing though, I'm sure I'll get better, but it still feels like to much of an ordeal to do something that shouldn't be that complicated. I wish they'd just steal the MVP meter.
Really like it so far, glad to finally have an up to date baseball game.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: Official MLB 11 The Show - Impressions Thread
Can I just say how much I LOVE analog hitting? It feels so PURE!
I have only played two games so far, but have already managed to smoke three home runs (which is much more than I usually manage with my low-scoring Dodgers). Uribe and Kemp went yard against the Diamondbacks while Ethier knocked Timmy over the fence at AT&T Park.
I've also found it a LOT easier to lay off pitches that I would otherwise have swung at with buttons. In last year's game, I believe the opposing pitcher's count would have been around 80-85 heading in to the final inning/s. This year (in two sample games so far), they've both eclipsed 100. Good signs for patience.Comment

I sometimes fast forward the pitching and fielding in innings 2,4,6 and 8. Other games, I might do just innings 3 and 6. I like batting and having my numbers...my numbers (mostly user controlled that is).
I also appreciate the option of being able to save a game in the middle of playing if something pops up and I want to come back later.
The variations are endless slthree.
Great game SCEA. Well played."Hard work beats talent, when talent isn't working hard.”Comment

Re: Official MLB 11 The Show - Impressions Thread
I was going to post this in the "Bugs/Glitches" thread, but techncially it's (probably) not.
I just simmed an entire season with the Cubs to try and earn the World Series trophy. I stopped simming in the second round of the playoffs and played the game as "Sportscast Manager".
The game starts well and I'm 3-0 up after 3 innings.
Jurrjens loads the bases and Matt Garza steps up to bat with two out. I hear a "crunch" and the text flashes up saying "Matt Garza hit a grand slam home run".
Now I know funny things happen in baseball, but we're talking about a guy who is hitless in 11 career ABs, and he can jack a grand slam in the playoffs? Hmm... anyone else come across anything as unrealistic and far-fetched as this?Comment

And minor leaguers continue to display plate discipline that would make Bonds envious. It's a joke.Comment
