Re: MLB 11 "Road To The Show" thread

Has anyone managed to earn Rookie of the Year? In previous versions, they always called up my players in July or August and burned their rookie status before I was really good enough to be there.

I'm starting much slower this time around and I'm hoping they have programmed this better.

      It's fun to finally win.

I've been on the Rangers for 3 years, no playoffs. We're first by 12 in June. It's insane. Dominating. I've hit 30 homers.

I think it's safe to say they don't call you up quickly. I'm only in my second year, but thus far I've been killing it in AAA and hitting all my goals, but they won't call me up because the 40-man roster is full. I think as long as that's the case, I'll probably be in AAA until the season is over.

It actually takes a bit of skill. 3 things have to happen for you to have a chance, none of them easy.

          1. Start playing in the majors in April, so you get enough ABs.
          2. Get the role of MLB starter, so you don't spend the whole year on bench.
          3. Have a good enough year the 1st year.

I wasn't able to do it.

So, Jacobs Field day games can be very difficult to see the ball out of the pitchers hand. Any other MLB stadiums have this problem?

I have a lot of problems with the minor league stadiums, especially the one that is set in the desert, that one kills me. I have less problems in the pros because they usually have a lot of stuff back there you can pick the ball up against.

About the ROTY thing, things have to align correctly. You have to get become a MLB starter by mid-May at the latest, assuming you started the year with the team. I had mine burned out because the White Sox benched me for half-a-season before sending me down to AAA. I hit all my goals, but I kept getting promoted mid-season so there was no hope in making the All-Star Game in either level of the minors, lead the league in any categories, or even play in the playoffs.

Teams in this game tend to mishandle your player. I do know that you can somehow manipulate things on your end by not always succeeding in your advancement goals (as in once you get the starter role, fail the first set, pass the second, then fail the following one, and so forth). I did that in last year's game with the Rays and it worked well. However you can't do much to avoid an injury call-up.

sadly it is your fate to be a "Father"... the same thing happened to me in my first year of my RTTS... I was drafted by the Brewers and found myself promoted from the Huntsville Stars (AA) to the Nashville Sounds (AAA) before the Double A all star break and was keeping tabs on how Milwaukee was doing and they were right in the thick of things so I figured great at this rate of promotion I'll be in a rotation with Greinke, and Gallardo but then I noticed I was on the trade block and just after the MLB All-Star Game I found myself traded to the Royals organization for Luke Hochevar as the Brewers needed another arm for the playoff push (team strategy was still normal I believe as this was pre-patch) they also got two minor leaguers for me and I was now an Omaha Storm Chaser in Triple A with the Royals... I kept the Brewers RTTS file and everytime I advanced the trade happened as I was hoping it wouldn't so I could decide if I was better to stay with Milwaukee system or move on to KC and the choice was pretty much made for me when the same exact trade would happen... long story short the Brewers have trailed off and don't look to be playoff bound in September while I made one start right after the All-Star break with the Storm Chasers before the Royals called me up and put me to work out of the bullpen... after 11 appearances I found myself in the starting rotation after talking to the manager about it and never left the rotation... currently 4-0 in Sept with a sub 1.00 ERA in September but I'm walking more batters post patch and the comp is starting to make it difficult on me as I was taken yard by Choo against Cleveland... I don't know if I'll request a trade or not to leave KC as I actually like the team but I guess I'll wait to see if I'm placed on the trade block before making that decision...

The only course of action I can think to take is to see if you can turn trades off before starting a new RTTS... I don't think thats an option though unfortunately... with the patch though you might be able to stay with the Yankees on another play through... or you can choose another team and see if the Yankees deal for you

I guess in hindsight the trades of your prospect in RTTS is realistic though seeing as A LOT of major league stars find themselves dealt by the team that drafted them before eventually making The Show themselves

There are a couple of the minor league ones that I struggle with during the day games (I think Primo Yards is the one that might be the worst? I can't remember if that's the one, but on one of them, I literally cannot see the ball until it's right on me).

I've read several things on these boards about people having trouble hitting at Progressive. I actually use the Indians in my franchise, so maybe I've just gotten used to hitting there, but I really don't have any trouble hitting there during the day / early evening hours.

But yeah, I've definitely had some issues in a couple of the minor league parks. There's a lot going on in the back drop of the stadium that has the bridge going across, and blows the foghorn after home runs and wins.

yeah, it must be the 3rd year thing. That's where I am and my player is doing so well. My team just wrapped up the AL East last night with a win over Boston with just a week left in the season.

I'm in an interesting situation myself.

My RTTS player is a speedy CF with decent to good power (think a RH Grady Sizemore type). I was drafted by the Reds, and traded right at the deadline to the Orioles. Despite having put up monster numbers at all my stops to this point, the Orioles traded me to the Indians around the halfway point of my second season. Finished the year out strong, batting .326 in AA and .315 in about 150 or so ABs in AAA Columbus. I'm now in my 3rd season, still with the Indians, and started the season as the starting CF in AAA. What's odd is, even though my ratings are getting better and better, my stats have been MUCH worse so far this year than in any years past (.229 through about 85 games). It's been a weird season so far... SO MANY balls that I just crush, or line really hard right at someone, etc. I still get "Good" ABs quite a bit, but they're just producing a lot of outs this year.

Anyway, I've been hitting most of my goals, and at the end of the last evaluation period, the email said that I'd shown them enough that they think I belong in the Majors (How? By batting .229 in AAA?? ), but there isn't room on the 40 man roster. So, it looks like, at this point, they don't have much intention to trade me. The reason it's a bit of an interesting situation for me is because I'm a big Indians fan, and therefore use them in my franchise. I was kind of hoping to be playing on a different team in RTTS, just for some variety. My thought was "Well, when I hit free agency I can always just go somewhere else." Then the Cleveland fan in me said "What, and be like all the other guys that just leave the Tribe for more money??"

So, it'll be interesting to see what happens. Oddly enough, I'm kind of hoping to get traded, so I can have that "other team" variety and am not using the Indians in both RTTS and Franchise, while not leaving the team of my own accord.

I got to say I think its a great thing you cant get past it, do players in real life have a choice? no so why should you.
Im stuck in the Padres organization and I know I dont want to be there but if I get traded to lets say the Pirates, so be it.
Cant always be on the best teams right away, and if you have a personal dislike or hate for a team IE the Yankees or in my case a place where the ballpark isnt good for hitters in San Diego, just be persistent in being a pain in the butt and you'll get dealt eventually. to where? who knows if its not a contender though so what, make yourself the franchise player and watch your team build around you maybe youll end up being the center piece of a World series team. It just might take 3-6 years

One thing that bugs me with the SP distribution in RTTS is, the deliberate aspect of how the points are given. It's senseless as well. I get a 2 strike base hit to drive in a run and you tell me it's an "ok at bat" and hand me 6 skill points? This is really dumb.

There is a thread from one of the Sony guys here: RTTS: Good at Bat/Batters faced discussion that is looking for feedback on this, I suggest you post there.

However, what is happening to you is that the points are awarded on how well you connected. If you got weak contact, even if it finds a hole and drives in a run, it's only an OK AB. A hard line-out can be a Good AB.

I've had a hit in your same situation, but I lined the ball hard to the outfield, and earned Great AB with 28 points. And yeah, I've hit weak seeing eye RBI singles and only got Okay AB - I posted that in that thread for my feedback.

Either you've never played baseball or feel the need to comment every single thread posted to be seen. The scenario I posted was NOT an ok at bat on any level. And the hit was a well place single through the middle of the infield. This would be a Tony Gwynn type hit that drove in a run while behind and continuing a great inning rally. You guys need to stop commenting things you have no clue what you're talking about. This new point system just needs some tweaking plain and simple.
