Re: MLB 11 "Road To The Show" thread

Yeah, my 3B/LF guy got a goal of getting 4 walks in an advancement cycle. I played with the sliders a bit and was finally able to work 2 walks with a week left. Then I hurt my ankle, missed a few games, and because of dropping out of the lineup, they changed the goals to only earn 3 walks. But I didn't get back into a game before the period ended.

Next cycle, I again have to earn walks, this time 3 in a 2 week span. I've picked up 2 more walks (and also went 1 for 12 or so, with several K's because I was taking pitches too much). Now, I've sprained an ankle ligament and chose to play through it rather than going on the DL. I quit for the night there and saved, so if I end up aggravating it, I can reload.

Even with Strike Frequency at 1, Consistency at 5 and Control at 4, the AA pitchers are still throwing lots of strikes. I may flip it around to the Bobhead scheme of SF back at 6, Consistency at 5 and Control at 1, to see what happens.

Of course, I'm not hitting my weight, so maybe they are throwing more strikes because they see that snowflake! I need to stop taking pitches for walks and just focus on hitting the ball to get my average back up.

I'm into my second year (2013) as starting 2B for the cubs. After having a decent rookie year hitting .260 with 29 HR and a gold glove, my second year is starting out great (1 month in) hitting .350 with 9 HR. The only problem is my team stinks. The next highest BA is .225 with the majority being in the .100's. I'm not the kind of guy who requests trades but if the option is available this year might be the year.

I am in the latter half of July 2013, and my Orioles starting CF just joined the 20-20 club with homers and stolen bases. I have no idea where my power came from this year but it has been fun. I'm batting leadoff so I don't get as many rbi situations but I do have 48 on the year to go with my .304 average, 20 hr and 28 stolen bases. I thought I was going to make the MLB All-Star game but I finished fourth in CF voting and didn't get a bench spot. Maybe next year.

The hit and run bug is aggravating me as I get called to this situation all the time but the pitch I get is junk a lot of times. What I've started doing though is laying bunts down in those situations now and it is working pretty good. I have good speed so I beat some out from time to time and I get at least 10 training points for the sacrifice on the hit and run call.

You can also foul the pitch off, that'll stop any more hit and run.

I'm in May of 2013 with the Detriot Tigers. Right now I'm being used as utility player. I'm batting a horrible .095 with 2 HR's and 3 RBI's. My only 2 hits have been homeruns.

I've been using zone hitting, I'm going to try Timing only tonight. I need to switch something up.

what hitting method are most people using for RTTS? Timing, Zone, or Analog?

And which one is easiest in your opinion?

I've been using zone since that is what I'm used to from past versions of MLB. I had success in AA and AAA but am hitting terrible in MLB, see above post.

I'm going to get timing a shot tonight.

I have been using timing, but the CPU screws me by swinging way over or under the ball on the rare occasion that my timing is good. Tearing up my rookie season in the big leagues at a .189 clip through the middle of May.

I use zone, I feel like that method gives me the best control. I would assume timing would be the easiest, but I don't like how the computer choose where in the zone you swing.

Wooo the Royals finally called me up!! Made me play two full seasons in the minors and 1 full season in AAA. I asked for trades many times and they wouldn't do it. I finally annoyed them enough with the base running glitch that they would consider trading me. But with the Yankees, Braves and D Backs all wanting 1B they couldn't pull off a trade. .387 average 47 doubles 48 home runs 152 rbi and they made me rot in AAA all season. While they are 39 games under .500 in the majors unreal... Can't wait to bolt out of KC when I can lol.

First AB in the majors they call me in to pinch hit in the 8th inning against Kyle McClellan. I rip a double to CF and my teammate runs through the stop at 3B and gets gunned down at the plate. Nice to see Fred Lewis got the call up with me only two guys doing anything in AAA all season.

In August 2014 and am 2nd in the MVP race to Evan Longoria. My status has changed from Pro to All-star , so I'm considering changing difficulty from Veteran to All-Star after the year. Working right now on getting Discipline, Clutch, Vision up to 80(forget the name).I'm hitting around .340 with 33 HR and 91 RBI.

Overall a good mode, but going to vent on training now.NEVER get anything but Contact Training or Baserunning Training. I'm convinced the Game AI will keep giving me Contact until I pass it. Tried re-loading for 30 minutes with no success. Also, no luck with baserunning training. Got BRAbility at 70 and BRAgress at 60 and still get thrown out every time during training. It's at the point I'm just going to skip training in RTTS.

One change I like this year is you're training decreases after 8 weeks if you haven't put any points in it. In previous versions it was 3 or 4 weeks. This allows me to spend more training points on areas I want to train, and not having to worry about my training decline.

I'm using straight analog. I will usually guess fastball, which helps my timing - I can wait on the breaking pitches. I'll get crossed up when the guy has a second fastball pitch though, like a cutter or 2-seam. I only guess location when the count is in my favor, 2-0, 2-1, 3-0, 3-1. That way I can zone in on one place - if the pitch isn't there, I take it.

I'm really not hitting very well, my "contact/speed" guy has raised his average to .260 in June, and my power guy is still hitting below .200 in July, but it took me a while to get used to timing the stride. But I do like analog better because it handles the height of the swing for me, I can handle pushing it inside or outside.
