Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

    Start of 2011

    Lineup vs RHP
    CF Campana
    2B DeWitt
    SS Castro
    1B Fielder
    3B Viciedo
    LF Soriano
    RF Jackson
    C Soto

    Bench:
    Fukudome
    JJ Hardy
    Jake Fox
    Mark DeRosa
    Reed Johnson

    Lineup vs LHP
    CF Campana
    2B DeRosa
    SS Castro
    1B Fielder
    RF Viciedo
    LF Soriano
    C Soto
    3B Hardy

    Rotation
    Garza
    Dempster
    Zambrano
    James Paxton
    Jay Jackson

    Bullpen:
    LR: Charlie Morton
    MRP: Sean Marshall
    MRP: Jhonny Nunez
    MRP: Dan Cortes
    SU: Jensen Lewis
    SU: Kerry Wood
    CP: Chris Carpenter

Busy busy offseason. As you can see I picked up Fielder in the FA market. Paid big bucks for him but it was worth it(I hope). I like my lineup. Plenty of speed at the top with Campana who batted .287 for me down the stretch in 2010. DeWitt is solid at 2B and DeRosa gives me a nice bat to use against lefties at 2B. Castro slots into the 3 spot after a late season power surge. Great hitter and I'm hoping the power numbers stay. Either way I need guys on base in front of Fielder so Castro will stay here for the time being. Viciedo settles into the middle of the order and Brett Jackson can get his feet under him after batting .286 during his September call up in 2010 at the #7 position in the order.

I can't wait to rid myself or Soriano.

I was able to bring Fukudome back for cheap at the end of free agency.

I like my bench overall. Jake Fox is kind of a crappy back up at catcher and I have Wellington Castillo down in AAA but I want to keep getting him AB's. Through 13 games so far Soto is batting in the .130's so Castillo's time could be soon if I can trade Soto for peanuts.

With Hardy and DeRosa I have some nice IF/OF flexibilty as well.

My pitching staff I like a lot. Garza had a great year for me last season and is my ace now. Dempster and Zambrano are pitching where they should be and the back end of my rotation is really young. Paxton I am really high on. he got called up last year. Went 1-1 with an ERA in the mid 3's. Power lefty arm. Projects out for me as a #2 guy. Maybe a fringe ace. Control issues but really solid 4 pitch guy. Jay Jackson got a call up late last year and went 3-0 with an ERA under 3.50. Nothing overpowering about his stuff but a solid middle to back end of the rotation arm.

My bullpen I was able to upgrade as well IMO. The Pirates let Morton walk after an iffy season and he is a guyw ho can spot start for my younger arms. Marshall/Nunez/Cortes are upgrades for me in the middle relief area. Nunez came over in the Aramis/Viciedo deal and has been really solid. Cortes Isigned away from Seattle and he's been impressive in duty so far this season. Lewis was an All-Star at AAA last season and I picked him up. Another guy who doesn't have overpowering stuff but nothing he throws is straight and he gets outs. I resigned Wood and he's a good veteran prescence at the back end.

Carpenter has electric stuff. There will be growing pains but he has closer stuff.

I signed Dontrelle Willis to a FA contract and he is currently at AAA along with Kris Medlin who the Braves let walk after he missed all of last season with an injury. I'll let him "rehab" down there for a while then look at calling him up later. It's ncie to have options beyond Casey Coleman at AAA to call up if need be.

Vitters and McNutt start the year off at AA.

Castillo, Rebel Ridling, and Rafael Dolis are the only real prospects of note at AAA.

My system is still really young. Most of my talent(Vitters, McNutt, Hayden Simpson, Jae-Hoon Ha, Michael Burgess, Justin Bour, Matt Szczur, Tim Beckham, Dan Vogelbach, Javier Baez, Reggie Golden, etc) is at the AA level or below. Beckham has been lighting it up early on at AA though so he's one to watch as the season moves forward.

    Random Free Agent observations:

-I tried to bring back Colvin but the Yankees outbid me for him. I'm sure he will love the short porch in right in Yankee Stadium.

-Jose Reyes went to the WS champion Red Sox. They are loaded in the lineup now.

-Carlos Beltran and Carlos Pena ended up with the Dodgers. The Dodgers OF is filthy. Beltran, Kemp, Ethier.

-Atlanta has maybe the best young staff in baseball. Hudson, Hanson, Jurrjens, Minor, Beachey. Teahran is still down at AAA.

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Mets update: in the tail end of September, i split a series with the Nationals (Bryce Harper terrorized me) and promptly dropped the first 2 to the Braves in ATL. K-Rod blew his first save chance after 50 consecutve. I still hold a 4 game lead over the Bravos, with a couple weeks to go.

I shipped off DJ Carasco to the Reds for Doontralle Willis, just to add another lefty to the roster for a the stretch run. I love having a full 40 man roster to play with, giving guys random starts who normally toil in the minors.

Unfortunatley, I am unable to add Zach Wheeler to my squad, as he part of the Reds (yes, Reds) 40 man and im sure they wont release him. I might have to do some ability editing to scoop him up

So far so good today. Managed to take two of three against the Yankees and I won two of three against the Orioles after that. That series was intense, as each win game on a walk off, the middle game in the 11th with a homerun by Carlos Peguero.

The Rays series just started and I won that game 5-3. Manny hit two homeruns against me and the pitcher than I brought up who has a Velocochange or something like that. Joe Nelson is the pitcher. It's like a change-up but with sideways movement, kind of like a circle change.

Anyway, we got our 40th win, so all is good.

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

In my season with the Red Sox, playing against the Twins, I get to the bottom of the 9th, tie game with nobody out, I hit a leadoff single with Saltalamacchia and go to pinch run for him. I use the dropdown window to pinch run for him instead of hitting pause, and the game ****ing freezes.

I remember this happening to me before, so it must be a glitch, but I haven't had my PS3 for a while because it was getting repaired, so I completely forgot about it. An hour and a half down the drain. **** **** **** **** off.

The worst part is, it only got to the bottom of the 9th because a pinch hitting Jason Kubel, hit an 0-2, 2 out, out of the strikezone by at least a foot 2 seam fastball for a solo home run, into 15 mph wind. It was off of Daniel Bard, who I swear to god is the worst pitcher in the game, literally gives up home runs every single time I put him in. It was one of those hits that you just say "That's the game ****ing me over", but I didn't get mad. Once that bull with the freezing happened, I then got mad.

It's happened to me a couple of times before, but I completely forgot about it because I hadn't played in a while due to my PS3 getting repaired. Of course, the first time I try it, it freezes. I posted about it in the bug thread.

              Minor well so far.

Beachey not so hot. But it's early.

Just knocked 3HR with Kila Ka"Aihue in my Royals' franchise against the Rangers. I don't think I have ever done that in all my years of playing The Show. I was pretty excited to say the least.

Was going to put the vids in the highlights thread but I haven't been able to get any videos to show up when I embed them. Eh well. Still awesome.

Knock on wood I've never had a freezing issue. It's almost done it numerous times, but it always seems to get back going again. Sorry mate.

The White Sox took the series from the M's with two wins in three games. Both teams had series ERAs under two, but my offensive average was .175. We got shutout in the first two games, but got four runs in the third against Edwin Jackson. Erik Bedard managed to get the complete game shutout in that one to go 9-3, with a 2.54 ERA. Amazing how the game values wins though, as Jon Lester is still in the front of the Cy-Young, despite his 3.50 ERA.

Texas is continuing to struggle. Now they have Nelson Cruz out, along with Beltre and Hamilton. Just about the entire team is out for them, leaving Ian Kinsler and Michael Young as their only threats. They were one game back, now they are nine and have only won two games in July thus far.

Have you tried using the old embedding code? I'm not sure how you upload highlights but that's how it works for me using youtube clips.

A month into my season using an older roster set without some of the younger players.... Do you all stay true and only use MLB players, or do you use CPU generated minor leaguers at times?

                          Record 21-5

Another series another sweep. The Mets once again took three games of the set from the Philadelphia Phillies(4th place 12-15). All three games were tight. Game three had Met SP Bryant Walker(3-0) behind the 8 ball early giving up homeruns to Philly 2B Jason Murray to lead off the game and 1B Wes Gamble to give the Phillies a 3-1 lead after one inning. They tacked on another run and seemed to be in control until the 6th. Dominating but tiring, Philly pitcher Jim Wasserman started the sixth with his 10th K of the game, but gave up back to back walks. The Mets then struck for 3 straight hits to go ahead 5-4. After tacking on an insurance run in the 8th, Met CP Wade Slinger came in to shut the door in the ninth...but not after causing a little scare by loading the bases with just one out. Slinger increased his league leading save total to 14.

Amazingly, the Mets are dominating the National League and have the best record in the Major Leagues, without having a single player in the top 10 in any offensive category(except triples...I do play in the Polo Grounds and have the top 3 in triples). It's consistency that is driving this team as well as excellent pitching. The Met pitching coach is to thank in this department as the Mets don't have any hurler except for their closer rated as a top 5 in the league(ratings not stats)
