I think I'm gonna nail the ball, and I hit pop-ups WAY too often. Weak taps, pop ups, lazy fly balls ... lots of them. And never, never, never a shot into a gap for a double or triple. I played for three hours last night, and never hit a gapper. Several homers, though.

Opinions? Is this a slider issues? Or a sucking issue? I have trouble reacting to pitches, and moving the left stick to the ball (which is why I have Pitch Speed at -8). When you guys line up the left stick to hit, are you moving the stick a little? A lot? Do you try to hit 'under' the ball? Right on it?

Hey, I just thought of this... does the Pitch Speed setting affect the speed of the ball off the bat?

Sounds like your timing is off. As far as determining how far the left stick moves, it really depends on where the pitch is in the zone. You may want to turn the plate coverage indicator on to see how far and how much area you cover when you move the left stick. This game would really benefit from a batting practice mode to develop your hitting skills.

The pitch speed adjustment is more of a visual effect. It should not change bat on ball physics!

Thanks, mucho. I also suspect it's a timing issue.

I'm thinking of dropping to All-Star to increase my hitting, but I've found it too easy to pitch on All-Star ...

        Re: HOF Sliders (Project Nemesis)

I actually find that I walk more batters with the strike zone and pitch cursor on. The reason for this is that when they are off, I am really just blindly feeling as to where I'm attempting to put the ball and it cause me to be more cautious, resulting in leaving too many balls in the meaty part of the zone. But with them on, I can make a good attempt to paint the corners and will throw more balls. Not as many as I would like, but more than with zone and cursor off.

          Re: HOF Sliders (Project Nemesis)

I definitely consider sliders to be a "to each his own" experience.... from what I read and see, for example, I have more success pitching but less success hitting than the average person.

(I'm posting late in the Show 07 game because I just picked up the PS3 version two weeks ago, after playing the PS2 version all last year).

I've had to make adjustments to Nemesis' sliders (on HOF setting), and I'm posting because I feel like I'm getting close and maybe my adjustments will help someone else.

I now have Pitch Command down all the way to -10 and Pitch Movement all the way up to +10. I currently have CPU Contact at +2. The A's scored 5 runs off Jon Lester and my Bosox last night, but it could have easily been 2 or 3 runs .... ya know, it's a game of inches! And a couple of key hits leaked through by inches. I have CPU power at +2.

My goal is to turn up CPU Hitting to a point where I am forced to paint corners, because balls in the middle of the plate will get punished. Well, weak-a$$ fastballs and other junk, at least. I still wanna be able to blow the heat by hitters some times. These settings are coming very, very close for me on that score.

For my own hitting, I've currently got Contact at -4 and Power at +3. This is starting to result in realistic hitting for me, becuase I suck at hitting. Without going up this high, I was hitting WAY too many pop ups and weak grounders, and no hard hits to the outfield. Now I'm seeing the hit variety I want.

            Nemesis,

Just wanted to give you some updates on your sliders. I simply cannot put this game down. Sometimes I forget I'm playing a game and not experiencing the real show!

My boxscores (user) are now exactly where I want them to be. I'm doing -9 contact and +1 power for user. I find the little contact helps with some more doubles.

Gone are the double digit hit games that PS2 and prior years were notorious. I get anywhere from 5-10 hits per game. 18 hit games are very rare.

Working the count and studying the cpu pitcher tendencies is crucial to real boxscores. For example, I actually draw more walks on 0-2 counts then on 3-0 counts!

The CPu will paint the corners with 2 strikes on 3-0. The exception is if your hitter has struck out twice or they are in the bottom of the order. Most cases have the cpu throwing 3 balls after going 0-2.

This of course presents the classic 3-2 battle that this game is noted for. Sometimes you strikeout, sometimes you walk and sometimes you make contact but hits are reduced drastically.

I did raise the cpu contact to -7 and power to -1 so as to increase cpu offense as my meter pitching is getting too good.

Is there a big difference from lowering control from -8 to -10? I walk maybe 1 hitter per game.

The game is so good I'm thinking of not buying 2008. I simply don't want to give up my franchise to start a new one.

Give the old ones a whirl...I have played about 5 games with them so far and they are quite good. I turned up 1P pitch control 1 or 2 clicks as my starters were having some serious control problems even when I was nailing the pitch meter dead center.

I am going to spend a lot of time with the game this week and determine what needs adjusting.
Overall the game plays well but needs to be better in some areas.

You finding All-Star to be harder to hit on than HOF? I am for some reason lol.

I have not tried All-Star. What is more difficult about it?

I don't know...I just seem to get less hits.

I'm finding it far too easy to get singles in this game again (although I did last year as well until your sliders came out, so hopefully that repeats itself).

After a good amount of games on HOF I feel All Star might be the way to go. I had maybe 2 doubles for both USER and AI in 6 or so games on HOF and in just 1 game so far on All Star there have been 2. The OF speed look better on All Star. I'll keep playing testing to make sure.
