Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 21 Sliders
I've been playing a lot of SMB3 while waiting for The Show and I know they're different kinds of games but this comment here has me excited to get into really practicing and seeing how it feels now that I know I was technically doing it wrong by just pressing the button [emoji23]

Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 21 Sliders
This is going to be an "info dump" kind of post.
1. I've updated the OP as version 1 following some additional tests (reverting the foul frequency back to default did a ton of good). I have not made any further slider adjustments but I did add one recommendation. I recommend that you match the pitching and hitting difficulties. If you're running a AS+/AS split; I highly recommend going with AS+ across the board. Yes, you'll have to adjust, but I do think that when they're "offset", you don't quite get the full impact of the difficulty increase. I will say this, if you're running a "split" setup and are "having issues" - this will become my first "go to" response.
2. As we're out of the beta phase; I am going to ask that if you're going to post feedback/questions, that you are following the OP as written (I clearly state that pitch speeds are user preference and that's always understood). Otherwise, making "minor" tweaks to the sliders and then posting feedback is not helpful....there are no "minor" tweaks, it's a pretty fine balancing act with where we are right now and that's always been the case with this setup. Things have always gone awry when I've made changes and now that we're past our exploratory stage, I'm not going to repeat that mistake. I've used the same base slider setup since MLB19; and easily have over 500 games worth of sample size. While each game in the series changes, the general tuning has been very consistent and these minor adjustments give me exactly what I am looking for.
3. There have been questions about the roster I uploaded last Friday. Very simply, I lowered the potentials for players in A-ball down to D potentials and then made other potential adjustments downward for other players throughout the roster. I did not change lineups or anything because once you start a franchise, the CPU teams will build off of the roster and go from there.
4. The trade slider. I'm going to just roll with it at 5 this year. It's a delicate balance. In year 1, you might see too many trades as the CPU struggles to re-adjust to some poor real-life roster management (and the starting roster). As things settle-in following Year 1, the trade numbers become more reasonable. Lowering the slider over the long haul can definitely cause AI management issues as they won't trade-off redundant players; you'll begin seeing decent prospects stagnate in the minors because the slider is too low to prompt a trade that they should be attempting.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 21 Sliders
I asked this earlier Josh and curious to your response....I'm finding AS+ too easy on classic pitching. It just seems like my starters allow max 1 run. Is there something I'm missing? How are your stats looking pitching-wise?Comment

Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 21 Sliders
Not to derail or sidetrack the purpose of this thread, but I do think rosters are a huge part of any slider set..
Regarding the SDS update from last week. Are folks seeing a lot of errors in the MLB rosters? I'm not saying the minors because I think that is known.
As example, I fired up, looked at the Tigers and Tarik Skubal is listed as a RP.
I try and suspend some belief when going into a franchinse, but honestly issues like that make me hesitant to even start. Skubal is a pretty big deal here in Detroit in terms of future pieces on a competitive team. To see him as a reliever soured me.
Appreciate any feedback. I know I can just edit him quickly and move on. However, the point being are there many more examples of issues with the MLB rosters like this?Twitch: Goblue81188Comment

I might just go back to pitching only until I get better at hitting so I dont throw the season. I tried to get the hitting difficulty up to AS+ but instead after 2 games it downgraded me to low end Veteran lol.Last edited by Friar Fanatic; 05-03-2021, 01:50 PM.Comment

He’ll be fixed soon I’m sure. The only issue I’m having is SDS simply not caring to update prospect ages. Example: wander Franco is 20. On the game he’s still 18. You cannot edit. I know this doesn’t bother josh too much (he said so a few pages back) but as a franchise player this completely messes up the immersion on franchise for me personally. They will eventually fix skubal to SP with an update. But these hundreds of incorrect ages I’m not so sure.

On the fence about this. But I’m going to test out a larger sample size. There’s 6 games in a row where I’m like wow pitching is easy and then one game I get bit hard so we shall see.Comment

Bear in mind, I have not started my official franchise yet - DD is way too much fun. But now that we're settled-in, I'll likely start soon.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 21 Sliders
Ok that makes sense. I dont think my lack of hitting is due to sliders, the sliders seem fine. For the life of me, I just cant stop chasing pitches out of the zone lol.

I did notice that All Star Plus pitching is better and more of a challenge when you are hitting with All Star Plus. So stupid question...does it work the other way around? Does All Star hitting get harder with All Star Plus pitching? If so, it could be the reason why some struggle with hitting.Follow me on Twitch

I'll say this....I'm viewing this as a fictional franchise with real players, not a replication of real life. "Real life" flies right out the window the moment you hit "Start Franchise".Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 21 Sliders
There probably are; definitely go through the roster (any roster you use) and make your own personal edits. I've made a handful of "little thing" changes throughout the roster and will probably continue to do so as I dive into my franchise. Whether it's Tarik Skubal or Felipe Furcal; at the end of the day, it's just a player card with ratings.

1. They're new to the series. I know, "Hello Captain Obvious". But it can take 100s of games to get comfortable (all the more reason to just settle into one slider setup and roll with it).
2. For veteran players, they used the broken check swing mechanic from past years as a crutch. This was the biggest thing I had to overcome.
3. They haven't dialed-in their pitch speed. This is SO key. You want to struggle to catch up with 98+MPH stuff (you have to be sitting on FB to catch up), be OK-ish with 93-97 MPH (a mix early and late swings), and be relatively comfortable with <94 MPH (be able to pull the ball relatively consistently).Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment
