Josh, can you upload your latest roster so we can start ours as well? I cannot find any ones on the vault I like.

It seems rosters uploaded AFTER the patch do download and load into franchise, those prior, do not work.

I read that about the vault as well.

So, I'm not going to definitively commit to uploading anything because I don't know what I am running with just yet. However, if I DO make significant custom edits, I WILL upload those. If I do not, I will let ya'll know what I decided to use.

Just as an FYI, if I do edits of my own, they will not be to modify ratings or to add players, change lineups/rotations, etc. It will simply be to do positional balancing and potential edits (as needed).

That would be nice, but it's not a show-stopper for me.

You can get away with it with outstanding pitchers (and you have 4 of them...feel blessed) because the ratings are good enough to induce swings or get those called strikes on the corner. But you try to do the same thing with weaker pitchers, you will QUICKLY build up their pitch counts, begin either walking them or getting that unlucky hung pitch.

My best advice is to across-the-board is to focus on throwing quality strikes in the zone that can induce that quick ground ball or flyball out. Sure, you may give up some hard contact from time to time; but efficiency is key to get your top starters deeper through games and reduce the burden on your weaker bullpen.

I'm not saying that there isn't a potential slider imbalance here (I'll know more as I begin my franchise this weekend) but I think you can mitigate all of these issues by examining your own patterns and making adjustments.
Thanks! I will give that a shot! It makes total sense

I dont know how to help my bullpen. They just get shelled lol. Anyone got any tips? Not like slider tips but general bullpen use tips?

The first thing I’d suggest is to acknowledge that your bullpen is garbage. And I mean that mentally, as the manager. From the first pitch of the game, hitting or pitching .....

“My bullpen sucks right now, therefore we need a lead and a nice one.”

“3-1 after five feels nice but this needs to be 6-1.”

              Etc.

Make that your main psychological approach to every game until it doesn’t need to be your approach anymore.

.... is how I’ve dealt with it in the past.
              Just one man’s opinion.
I don’t actually care about any of this.

I've posted my own roster based off of SDS' roster update today. It's under my username JoshC1977

It is a potential edit roster that is more moderate than what I had originally done. It will help avoid some issues with way too many high end players but without going so low that we don't see a good number of standouts.

I have not added any new players and do not plan on making any future updates. This is something I did for myself, but am just sharing with the community...because, ya know...we help one another!

Lots of new players this year; so let's not assume everyone knows everything. I've referenced "All Star Plus" in my thread and I'm sure many folks don't know what that is. MLB The Show has something called "Dynamic Difficulty". If you set the game difficulty to "Dynamic", the game will adjust what level you're playing on based on your performance. So you can go from Rookie all the way up to Legend. In the slider screen, there is a dynamic difficulty sensitivity slider that allows you to adjust how quickly the level will change based on performance. Set to 0, it won't budge.

Here's the super-cool thing. There are "plus" levels which are middle-grounds between difficulties and these are often fantastic for many players. So, instead of going from All Star to Hall of Fame, you go from All Star to All Star+ to Hall of Fame. I really love All Star+ because it is still a ratings-based format (unlike the more arcade-like HOF difficulty) but it also provides that little extra edge I want. Here's how you get there.

                  1. Go into game settings and change hitting and pitching to dynamic.
                  2. Load sliders, make sure the dynamic difficulty sensitivity slider is set to 5. (It can be higher as well while you do your run to boost the difficulty).
                  3. Save any changes to the sliders.
                  4. Go into a Play Now game and see what level it has you set to (there will be a pop-up).
                  5. Play the game and wait for it to go to AS+. (now...if it starts you at a lower level...go ahead and boost the sensitivity slider to 10 and/or bias the sliders completely in your favor - this all will just make it go faster).
                  6. Once you hit AS+ on both hitting and pitching, exit the game you're playing. Go and load the OP sliders and then change the dynamic difficulty sensistivity slider to 0. That will lock you into AS+.
                  7. Once in franchise, double check your game settings and sliders and make sure they are what you want.

                  Nuances of Classic Pitching
You definitely have some control over pitch outcome. How long you hold the button matters. It affects pitch speed, command, and the amount of break on breaking pitches. It just isn't 'push a button and go'...there is far more subtlety in it. In fact, if you simply tap the button, it is an excellent way to get shelled".

When pitching in classic, you have about a 1 second time period before you get the controller vibration (i.e. max-effort). The following are my observations...

Max effort pitches (holding the button down till the vibration) result in the following:
                  More velocity
                  Less control
A sharper break on breaking pitches
                  Pitches tend to rise more

Minimum effort pitches (tapping the button) results in the following:
                  Less velocity
                  Better control
                  "Loopier" breaking balls (especially curves/sliders
Pitches sink more (due to lower velo) - changeups will pretty constantly wind up in the dirt
In many cases, an "intermediate" duration is optimal. However, you can vary this from pitch to pitch (i.e. like a pitcher adding/subtracting from the speed of the pitch). This is a tremendous way to keep hitters off-balance to help to avoid them getting solid contact/timing.

For those of you who have pitched IRL, think of the button press duration as your arm velocity. Full duration is you using your max arm velocity, tapping is like you taking a lot off the pitch.

This is definitely just the tip of the iceberg, but should get folks started.

                  Hi Josh,

Sorry if this has been asked already but i'm trying to get to AS+ I have it set up like you advise above, when i go into a play now game I don't get a pop up that tells me what level i'm at, is there some other settings that I need to turn on to see this pop up?

Thanks, again sorry if this has been asked already

Is anyone seeing consistent injuries or injuries at all? I’m 20 games into the season and my MLB team has 0 injuries so far, my AAA team only has 1 and I’ve only seen 1 injury happen to the CPU during the game.

Other than that, these sliders play great with allstar+ having a blast.

Patience, they should happen over time. You might go through a whole month or two relatively fine and then get slammed. If they don’t, consider yourself fortunate.

                        Hey Josh,

I downloaded your roster and started a test franchise. I noticed like some teams have only 3-4 SP on their AA team. But some of their RP guys have like 50 stamina. Do you bother with those or will those work themselves out?

These sliders feel great in terms of balance and realism. I'm very happy with the pitching. I might go up to All Star+ at some point as I'm not giving up many runs. I have decent pitching staff though and I've only played 16-18 games so far.

Hitting feels very underpowered this year though. I like the frequency and type of hits that I'm getting but my guys can't hit the ball more than 200ft. I just finished a game in which I had 12 hits and lost 2-0. Everything I hit that wasn't a ground ball either went on a line to the short stop or blooped up in the air and was easily caught in centre or right field. It just feels like there's no pop off the bat. Even perfect-perfect hits always seem to leave the bat with a very low trajectory and are caught for an out. I can't remember the last time I hit a home run and games are proving very hard to win because every inning ends with guys stranded on base.

Is anyone else noticing this? Any advice?

Thus begins our small sample size run to solidify the beta set. Guessing I'll only need to run around 70-100 games and then we can consider if any further changes are needed.
