Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 21 Sliders
Not gonna lie….MLBTS 21 not my cup of tea, 2022 not exciting me either.
With the real MLB in disarray and the fact the game on the field barely resembles the game I grew to love in the 80s and 90s I find it so hard to play The Show 20 with modern rosters.
For what it’s worth, Bacon’s roster or the plethora of classic rosters available in the vault (check Armor’s historical roster thread on OS) is where it’s at from a simulation gaming standpoint.
IMO you can’t go wrong with those roster sets and either Josh’s or Armor’s slider set.

I meant to post it here. Despite not loving MLBTS 21 I still wanted to fully endorse your slider sets for MLBTS 20 or 21.

Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 21 Sliders
I love your sliders but I also like the slightly higher variability in pitching locations on HOF settings. Would you suggest moving user and cpu pitch control down to 4 or would that mess things up too much? I know about 60-65% of pitches are strikes in the majors but I'd assume that includes pitches that were offered which were outside the zone.Comment

As for your suggested adjustment, changing the control slider would skew things very heavily towards the offense given the OP contact setting at 6.
Can I ask this, are you playing on AS+ or just AS? If you're not on AS+, I highly suggest going up to that level (as described in the OP).Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

Strike percentage is based upon pitches that are strikes (including balls in play and fouls).

I'm playing on AS+. I just like the higher variability in pitch location I've seen when experimenting with HOF, felt a little more life like, less borderline balls.Comment

Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 21 Sliders
@ Josh, gonna start w/ these in my revisitation of '21.
Quick question: I'm gonna start on AS+...if for any reason I need to scale up, do you recommend starting by manipulating the DD level up a half step or moving pitch speed up?
Thanks in advance!Comment

Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 21 Sliders
I am going to say this.....
After playing a full season, you will have MASSIVE ebbs and flows. I have gone through month long stretches of great/bad offense and great/bad pitching. I have had fairly mundane stretches on both ends.
One thing I HAVE to say....the first month of the season is by no means indicative of the rest of the year....in fact, I basically think you ignore April from an evaluation perspective.
I adore this game so much; hitting is much more unforgiving than earlier editions. You have to be disciplined and the sheer hit variety is wonderful with the higher contact sliders. I'm probably going to continue playing my Bacon chise for '21 alongside of '22....it's just THAT good.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

Awesome, and thanks!
Having played about 140 games as the Dodgers on 20, I totally see how the ebbs and flows you’re talking about work. I’ve had those month-long hot streaks and droughts…it’s one of the things I love most about The Show! Looking forward to getting back into it!Comment

Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 21 Sliders
In case anyone asks, I will not be doing a slider thread for '22 (I AM getting the game, just not going to post any sliders publicly).
Hope you all have fun with '22!Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

Any reason why? That would be a big loss here with you and Armor out of the picture on doing sliders for ‘22.

Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 21 Sliders
Not doing that again....there's just absolutely no benefit (for me) in doing so.
I know it might not be a popular answer, but it is an honest one.
My best advice for others....
1. Go straight to All Star+
2. Do a quick sim and assess injuries (find a sim injury slider value to your liking and set in-game the same)
3. Start playing (10-15 games)
4. Adjust pitch speeds till they are challenging (but reasonable) for you
5. Monitor how quickly the CPU pulls their pitchers and if the context makes sense. (I would not be surprised if they still pull them early and you will want to drop the hook value one notch).
6. Play the rest of the season. If offense is too heavy globally, raise pitcher control for both sides one tick. If offense is too weak, raise contact for both sides one tick.
That's it....simple and easy.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

Bluntly - doing this thread last year nearly killed my enjoyment of the game. I allowed the "feedback" to get the better of me and it spiraled me into a bit of slideritis. It wasn't until I "walked away" and started ignoring the "feedback" from everyone else that I settled into something that worked for me and allowed me to enjoy the game.

As a slider forum lurker I’m going to miss this thread for 22, but totally understandable.
