Re: High Heat 2004 Anything & Everything Thread

Well, I've got 6 games left and I'm 1.5 out of first. 25-23. Some observations in case anyone is still out there .
I have been terrible at the plate all year. My pitching has been really good and I keep CPU hitting at 4 or 5 and CPU power at 6 or 7. My hitting has been at 5 or 4 and power from 6-8. And I'm really bad at the plate. This weekend I turned off Guess Pitch and all of a sudden I'm crushing the ball and scoring runs. And my pitching was not up to its usual standard. I always figured I'd leave guess pitch on in case I felt like using it and I probably actually guessed at maybe 10 or 15 pitches per game. Maybe I'm late to the party, but I guess if you leave it on, you better guess at most pitches and you better be right if you want a hit. With it off, I just worry about location and timing and the results have been pretty dramatic. I will try this for the last 6 and see how it goes.
I made an adjustment to CPU catcher throw speed for stolen bases. I had it at 5 all year. It seems every time I try to take a lead I get picked off. And you gotta take a lead to have any chance of stealing. I turned it to 3 and I no longer take a lead. My stolen base % is about 80% like this which is accurate, I think. If the pitcher throws off speed, you have an easy steal. If it's a fastball, the odds are still in your favor. Not sure if I'm cheesing the CPU like this.
I guess that's all for now. I'll let you guys know how this all wraps up.

      Keep us informed man.

I really wanted to be more active in this thread when I made it, but that damn thing called life has really been getting in my way lately. I'm still enjoying a few games here and there though.

I've been playing off and on,but unfortunately I encountered a few glitches when I converted pudges 08 pc rosters for ps2, in regards to stats, which has prevented my from getting into a season.
Still just paying exhibitions is still enjoyable, especially with teams like Rays, and Rangers.
Don't you EVER read my blog? It's gotten a lot better.

          Hey, fellas!
Well, I got a tale for you. One game back of Montreal and Philly, playing Cincy at Shea. Maine vs. Harang. Scoreless in the 5th, when Griffey hits a 3 run homer. We get one back in the 6th. 3-1 to the bottom 9th. Delgado leads off with a home run. Castillo gets on and steals second, Castro moves him over to third. Anderson pinch hits and singles home the tying run. I bring Wagner in in the 10th. gives up a leadoff double, then fans two and gets a fly ball to end the inning. In the 11th, Wagner loads the bases with no outs. His fatigue bar is now yellow. I've lived with Wags all year, not taking him out. CPU tries a squeeze, but the batter pops it up. Castro gets it for one and throws to third for a double play. Wags gets the next guy and we're safe. In the 12th, Joe Smith loads the bases again, but this time there is already an out. Next batter we turn a 1-2-3 double play. We dodge ANOTHER bullet!!!!! Reyes leads off the 12th with a single and steals second. Church moves him to third on a ground out. Wright singles him home and we win!!! Probably the most intense game of video baseball I've ever played. What a win!!! So the game ends. And I go to the boxscore. Stats were unreal! Great game. OK, let's go back to the main menu. OK, let's go back to the menu. OK,LET'S GO BACK TO THE MAIN MENU!!!! No, please! PLEASE!!!! Please let's go back to the main menue!!! AUUUGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Game Freeze!!!!!!!!!!!!!AAAAUUUUGGGHHH!!!!
I went and replayed the game as a 3 inning game and rigged the sliders way in my favor because I was so mad and I got my win and got my first place tie. But, that just seemed to kill it for me - at least for now. I did have a freeze earlier this week. They were the first freezes so far, but man!! After such an intense game to get frozen like that just sent me into orbit. Played today and lost to San Fran and now am 1 back with 3 to go. Of course, that one didn't freeze!!!
Does anyone know of any tricks I could do if this happens again?

Wow, that sucks that the game froze after such a good hard fought ball game.

As much as I hate too, I dont look at box scores because I heard that the quicker you exit out of the box score screen, the less likely the game well freeze. I've only had one freeze so far and it wasnt on the box score screen, BUT...that doesnt mean it still wont happen. I dont think there is anyway to prevent this a 100% of the time.

Re: High Heat 2004 Anything & Everything Thread

Yeah, I heard about freezes at the summary screen on PS2, but it hadn't happened to me this year. I was also playing with a PS2 someone gave me last year when mine was being exchanged for a refurbished one. I switched them recently and put the refurbed one back in the box and was using the old one, so maybe that was it. Used the "new" one from Sony last night and no freeze. I thought someone may have had a trick for when this happened but I can't remember it or if it even really worked. Very frustrating, though. I have a very limited amount of gaming time and to spend an hour on a game that froze was pretty aggravating.
Anyway, 3 games left, one game out. Coming down to the wire. Perez goes today vs. Pirates, Pedro vs. Milwaukee, and Johan vs. Cardinals. Brewers and Cards are tied for the WC and I am 1 back of them, so I guess I can control my own destiny.

Ok, last night we played Milwaukee. Cameron leads off with a homer off Pedro on the first pitch. Brewers score again in the 4th and I'm down 2-0. Castro Sac Fly plates Beltran in the 5th. In the 6th, Reyes on third, Pagan at 1st with one out, Wright at the plate. Hit into a 1-4-3 double play. Didn't come close to touching Sabathia after that. Brewers win 2-1. Montreal and Philly also lost, so we're all still tied for first, but all eliminated from the WC. Tonight, game 54. Mets vs. Cards, Johan vs. Mulder. Phils vs. Colorado, Montreal vs. Houston.
Last night was great. Just a great baseball game and despite the loss, thoroughly enjoyed it!

Game number 54. Last scheduled game. Mets/Cards. Santana and Mulder duel into the 9th. Santana is relieved by Heilman in a scoreless game. Delgado tries to score from second in the 10th, but is out at the plate. Cards get a run in the 11th off Heilman. Isringhausen closes it out. I figured, that's it. Season over. Wrong! Montreal and Philly both lost, too, so we have a three way tie. Somehow, Montreal is out. One game playoff - Mets/Phils for the NL East. We'll see what happens.

NL Eastern Division Playoff Game Pregame Report
Mets vs. Phils. I have Pedro going tonight. CPU gave us a few days off, so he should be rested. He has had two non dominant outings. We can't score runs - we need a good night from him. As for the Phils, I fooled around with their rotation. They were scheduled to throw Benson. I looked at it as the Phils manager. I have dropped the last two games to lefties. The last lefty before last weekend was Zito and I lost to him too. So my last three games against lefties, I lost. If I was managing the Phils, I'd want a lefty to face me. Philly has Hamel and Moyer. Hamel beat me earlier this year - the only loss I had to Philly. Didn't face Moyer. But Moyer throws alot of off speed junk, which I have had no luck with. If I was Charlie Manual, I think I'd go with Moyer. So...it's Pedro vs. Moyer. Also made a few changes to my lineup. Reyes and Wright have been awful this year. They are benched for Tatis and Easley. Church has slumped over the past few games, so Pagan starts in right. Castillo leads off - he's been a hit machine for me. Castro starts at catcher. This is going to be a real challenge. Can't wait to get it going.

                          Well.......
I was right about being Charlie Manual. Jamie Moyer struck out 12 and went 8.1 innings. Couldn't do a thing. Had two scoring chances. Hit into a double play in the 6th, K'd and flied out in the 8th leaving two men on. Pedro in probably his last Met start was great. Gave up a two run double to Utley. That was the difference. Phillies 2 Mets 0.
Had alot of fun this year. Not sure if I will do HH again next year. I think I'm going to use the fall to play The Show and give it another shot. But, I will keep working on my rosters - I have a feeling next spring, I'm going to be putting this in again.

FYI to Xbox 360 owners, this game(High Heat 2004) for the original Xbox is now backward-compatible with 360, so you can enjoy the awesomeness of the best video baseball game franchise once again. The simple but thrilling batter-pitcher duel and the quickness of the gameplay seem to create the perfect rhythm/timing to play a game of baseball.

I picked it up for $1.99 at Gamestop. I highly recommend it to anyone tired with newer crop of baseball games for 360.

Doesn't this have a complete player editor? Can't you edit ALL attributes, names/positions, etc., etc.

Might be a good roster project.
