<<< Someone's got it right here-That has been a big mystery/question mark about this game for me. MVP had a foul ball slider. To me that slider is essential as working the count is what hitting, especially off a good pitcher is all about. Guess I state the obvious.

Re: New Info on power and contact sliders

I have contact around 40-45, I haven't decided which but I think that gives a good balance of foul balls, so's, mix of hits etc. I also put the cpu around the same, i have them at 50, could maybe go 55, and I get a decent amount of swinging k's, hits, foul balls, etc.. I basically took the allstar settings and did this, raised the take strike, and take ball settings, raised the pitcher interface speed, lowered the arm speed and run speed of fielders on both sides slightly, raised errors, and I'm seeing fairly realistic pitch counts and having some really good games. I am playing with the Royals and I havent really seen a need to lower the power settings, but if you are playing with a really good team just lower the power settings.

Because as it is now, raising the contact slider results in more contact with pitches, meaning more balls get put into play, resulting in more hits.
it does exactly what i said it does. and it is much better than a foulball slider.

You see in HH04 and mvp the foulball slider takes pitches that were swing and miss strikes and makes them foul balls artificially messing with numbers and gameplay.

This was something that drove me nuts when tweaking these 2 games. Before HH03 came out with its new engine the one used in hh04 also there was the greatest adjustments ever put in a game. these were omitted form the hh03 engine and to fix some of the problem this casued they created the foulball slider which did exactly what i just told you the foul balls slider did. this was confirmed by the hh04 producer!

The settings that were in the hh02 tune file and prior were bat variables. One controlled height of the bat, and the other controlled the width of the sweet spot.
in highheat we even had control of where the sweetspot was located on the bat but thats not important here.

What is important is that these 2 adjustments have returned just given a name to make it "easier" for people to get sort of the gist of what they do.

But make no mistake

Contact adjusts the height of the bat. making it thinner or thicker and power adjusts the sweet spot making it wider and narrower.

A thicker bat will allow more contact and allow you to reach more pitches but that does not mean solidly enough to get a hit it means more fouled of pitches and pop ups and out rather than swings and misses. If you were to adjust only this and leave the power (sweet spot setting) as is yes you would see more hits. But in conjunction with making the bat thicker you make the sweet spot narrower and now you have more fouls and flares because the sweet spot is small.

once you have the bat size correct you then adjust difficulty not by size of the bat but the timing of the swing. just like real life physics (which we are trying to represent here) You do this by making the step of the swing influence the swing more and use the pitch speed in combination with this faster pitchs combined with less forgiving step equals higher difficulty.

Now maybe there is a flaw in the button swing that i dont know but i do know that this is eexactyl what these sliders do.

I completly agree with Mike, this is what I've found through testing. The contact slider in conjunction with the power slider does exactly what he says it does, imo. It's a question of getting a greater variety of hits, not necessarly more hits.
These 2 sliders work in unisson, I have found raising one means lowering the other, you should not be affraid to raise the contact slider to where you get the correct loft, and at the same time tweak the power until you get the correct drive on the ball. 40-15 seems to be a winning combo for me, but there's a few good variations from there.

I can confirm this as well. Played a game last night online with these reccommended setting and what a difference !!!! A wide variety of hits and foul balls. Had straight back fouls to the net or the wall just behind home plate. High foul ball pop ups directly behind home and fouls that reached the upper deck behind home plate. You can still strike people out by changing up speeds of your pitches and throwing balls away from the zone.

I am so glad I found this thread. Homeruns (or an abundance of them) are still a problem with people go for the power swing. Me and a few friends have set some rules as far as when to use the power swing........When tyhe correct pitch location is guess with the batter's eye and when the pitcher serves up a meatball (baseball icon). This rule thumb worked out pretty well over 9 innings with only 3 homeruns being hit (2 because of the hitters eye and one because of a well times swing stick release).

I plan on playing some single player game against the CPU to see how this works. I also use the same homerun rule of thumb as mentioned above when I play against the CPU.

I don't have the game, nor have I played it. But I trust Mike.

If this is the same SerialMike that was a tune file guru back in the HH days (and it sure sounds like it is), then this dude knows what's he's talking about. His tune files were GREAT.

Howdy Mike!

YES!!!!!!!!! THis is why I came to this board. Good stuff fellas. THe Stros are tied with the Braves right now in Florida. 2-2 and now this.

I am now contemplating the swing stick after all these insightful posts. So what slider settings should I use for this to help me?

Okay, now that makes some sense to me. I was suggesting some sort of additional variable or difficulty slider was needed to produce foul balls, rather than just more hits. Because all I saw with classic swinging - which doesn't have the step influence slider of course - was more hits when the contact slider was raised.

Looks like I will have to give this game another shot and try using the swing stick this time. I've aleady rented it once - another $12 rental fee starts putting it in the realm of 'should be buying this, this time around'.

Re: New Info on power and contact sliders

this thread is convincing me to try the swing stick again. i have used the classic controls since the first game i played, but i'm getting frustrated at the "lag" that i see with the button press. there have been many times that i have felt that in order to make contact i have to swing almost immediately after the ball leaves the pitcher's hand to compensate.

with the suggestions in this thread i might give swing stick another shot (with the appropriate tweaks).

Ok so I tried your settings Mike. I chose 80 for contact, but the rest were what you said you used on the other thread about I.E.

Zambrano pitched a complete game.

9 singles. I couldnt really hit the gaps but I won 3 to 2 with all my runs coming with two outs in the 5th after giving up 2 in the first. It was a great game but that hitstick is just weird on my first time using it. I am going to play another.

unlike the A button with classic hitting and being able to hit a few hrs.(w/o using the L stick) i just can't see myself being able to hit a hr by just pulling back on the swing stick and releasing it, all i seem to get are line drives or grounders and i hate having to push up on it, it would seem as though it takes the surprise out of hitting a hr.

i have hit about 50% of my hr in my franchise without using the power swing...and got hrs evan with non power batters like m.derosa and evan one with freaking izturis!(barely made it to deep rf foul line ...)
i think its all about perfect timming...also with the power swing i see myself getting a lot of fly outs(so i started using it when a man on 3rd with 1 out) and foul balls.
