That's the $64k question though. On balance, for me at least, he's one of the better offensive 2B of all time. At least power-wise.

But, he had one of those funky Steroid Era late-bloomer peaks, where he was just serviceable until his age 29 season, in which he went to San Fran and joined Barry the Juicer Bonds. Testing was nil back then, but might he have found a "fountain of youth" in San Fran? We may never know.

Also, not sure if you remember, but he had some well-publicized disagreements with Barry Bonds when they were teammates and was even accused of being a racist against black players, that I'm not sure was substantiated by other players, but there were accusations. He was moody by all accounts, and I guess questionable as a teammate is fair to say.

Also, despite his 377 HR and 1500+ RBI at 2B, his career WAR/peak WAR/JAWS all come up well short of the average 2B in Cooperstown according to BR (likely somewhat due to him being a late bloomer).

Interestingly, Kent's top 5 similarity score comparables include: 1. Dave Parker (not in HOF), 2. Jim Rice (probably shouldn't be in HOF, East Coast bias), 3. Scott Rolen (likely not going to HOF), 4. Luis Gonzalez (lol), and 5. Miguel Tejada (just mentioned). So, he's really borderline according to who his stats compare to most closely.

I'm not even sure if I'd say yes or no on him, but I don't think he's a lock.

DISCLAIMER: *If you guys find this irrelevant please ignore, but a buddy of mine was talking about this with me and I'd like to know all of your opinions.*

What do you guys think about this potential HOFer:

      Justin Verlander?

I know it's a early to be talking about his stats but:

6 time All-Star in 9 years, CY Young Winner, MVP Winner, 1599 Career K's apposed to 526 BB's (3.04 Ratio) Averages +8 strikeouts a game, 3.04 career ERA, an ERA+ of 127, he had 174 and 160 in his career (league average is 100) (Averages are including his rookie season he went 0-2 with a 7.17 ERA)

Guy averages just under 20 wins per season with over 200 IP. If he keeps this up, do you guys see him to be good enough to get into the Hall?

Absolute lock, especially if it continues.

If he has another 5-6 good seasons, absolutely.

Way too early to tell right now, though.

I think another couple good seasons and he's in, no doubt.

If He stays healthy He's a lock. He also has 300 Win potential which would only add to a very impressive resume.

Verlander needs to keep up his pace for another 5 years. Only concern I have is he seems to be inconsistent at times, will that increase as he gets older?

Has Curt Schilling been talked about in here? Probably has, I view him as an interesting case, didn't quite get the number accolades apparently.

A pitcher with 80+ WAR, postseason success, a signature game, etc.

                  Sure, come on in.

Verlander needs another 5+ years at his current pace to be a lock. If he were to retire today, obviously he doesn't get close.

On Schilling, I really really really dislike the guy, so that tends to color my perception of him. But, I do think his career is worthy of the HOF....if he was clean. He'd be the only inductee that I'm aware of that nearly bankrupted the state of Rhode Island, so not sure how much that adds to his credentials. Also, with "Montague" as his middle name and a twitter handle "@Gehrig38" along with his blowhard analysis just makes me lol.

How about Matt Holliday? Say he goes another 4-5 years like he's doing this year for argument's sake.

Schilling is a blowhard and a tool who hurt a lot of people in my industry. But yes, he should be in Cooperstown.

Weird. I was just going to ask about Holliday.

I would say yes, but he would definitely need to keep up what he's been doing. Barring any major injuries or a drastic drop off, I think he's worthy.

No. He was very solid for nearly a decade, but didn't put up HOF type numbers IMO.
