BTW what's going on with this whole black spikes thing with Ben Zobrist and some of the Cubs players. This seems like stupid BS by MLB.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

I team designates what their primary shoe color is and the players have to wear cleats that predominately have that color. For the Blue Jays the color is blue, not black.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
LOL, Votto's opinion on Baseball in Canada sure took a quick 180:
Cincinnati Reds all-star Joey Votto has penned an apology after saying in a podcast on Tuesday that he doesn't care about Canada, Canadian baseball or his hometown of Toronto.
"I don't care almost at all about Canadian baseball," said Votto, who was also the National League MVP in 2010. "I wasn't raised inside of Canadian baseball really. I'm coming up on half of my life being in the United States working and being supported by American baseball."But in an email posted on the Canadian Baseball Network website after the Reds lost 5-3 to the San Francisco Giants Tuesday night, Votto said he is "terribly ashamed" of his comments and called them "ridiculously selfish and short-sighted."
Votto added: "I am saddened that I was so flagrant with my remarks and more importantly that I offended so many people that mean so much to me."
I actually had a work-lunch last year with his cousin - who works for one of the Big 3 in Windsor, ON.
He told the table that Joey hasn't been back home in years because he doesn't even own a passport.
He also made a few comments that back up Votto's original opinions about Canada and Canadian Baseball.
I'm a huge Votto fan and I follow the Reds specifically because of him.
But I have to admit, hearing him say this stuff takes the shine off of #19.Comment

What I find kind of funny is him saying he returns to Toronto every off-season.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Curious. The Reds played a 3-game set in Toronto last May, and Votto played in each game, so he must've renewed his passport at some point. I'm not 100% sure how MLB rules work in this regard, but I assume a foreign national like Votto would need a valid Canadian passport to return to the US.
Oh, and hey Money: You were completely right about Mark Scheifele! I recall being a bit of a dick to you in the NHL forums a couple years ago: my apologies.
You're right about Votto visiting Toronto last year.
I should have noted that this lunch took place in summer of 2016.
He must have renewed it since then.
I stand corrected.
P.S. If you really wanted to make it up to me you could PM me (or on OS) your time working on the MVP series.
I'd love to hear all the ins and outs of what took place behind the scenes of that series.
Cheers!Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I picture Votto giving everyone two middle fingers pointed at the Canadian flag while pouring a bottle of Labatt Blue on a maple leaf as his response to these comments.

Re: MLB Off-Topic
I'm not sure I understand what Votto did wrong that he needs to apologize for? Why is he required to "care" about Canadien baseball or be excited for James Paxton as a Canadien?"People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do.
