It was. There's no one size fits all strike zone for all players, because it depends on batting stance, the player's height, position in the box, etc. Unless they have data for every player, and the ability to change it if/when a batter changes things up in the box.

Honestly, all I want is a CONSISTENT strike zone and y'know, maybe call it the right way at the knees and the letters being the boundaries of the zone.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Which is why an electronic strike zone might not be the cure all unless they have some kind of detector that can tell where the knees and the letters are and call it that way.

Yeah, it's tough because the human error can be so inconsistent. How many times per game is it clear that the ump just flat out didn't see where the ball was, and just makes up some random call? Right down the middle and it's a ball.
Or when a guy is struggling with control, 2-0 count, then he throws a pitch that's clearly a strike but the ump won't give it to him just because he's been shaky. That just shouldn't happen, but I'm sure it's one of those old school things passed down from ump to ump.Comment

Just don't be a blind *******, ok umpires?
That's seriously all that needs to happen.Comment

I always thought the wider strike zone would induce more offense by making guys swing more, as opposed to the smaller zone leading to guys taking more pitches, but maybe I'm confusing offense with actionWolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment

Swinging at crap isn't going to help unless it's Vlad Guerrero. Making the strike zone bigger simply makes the pitcher's job easier and tilts the advantage to pitching. Offense goes down exactly as we've seen over the past decade+.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

I don't think the upper half of the strike zone should extend to the letters the way it's laid out but I think they can still improve in some avenues.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
Having been to the 2011 World Series, I have to say that a neutral site championship would be the stupidest move in the history of the game. Hosting the World Series rewards local sponsors and season ticket holders with preferred games.
Sometimes Manfred looks like a great commissioner, and other times he makes me pine for Selig. Rob, don't screw with the game to the point that it becomes pro football...
Unlike the NHL where any change considered is met with pitchforks, torches and mob justice, I don't mind if aleague/commissioner is willing to look at anything and every thing to see if a particular change could help improve the game.
I highly doubt some of these topics will ever be implemented - especially a neutral site WS game.
They're probably just kicking the tires.
It's never good to stay stagnant and always believe your game is perfect.
That's been the NHL's model for a while and it hasn't worked.Last edited by Money99; 12-02-2015, 07:22 AM.Comment

Re: MLB Off-Topic
You're 100% correct in that. Correctly calling the strike zone would speed up the game and with the concentration on that aspect right now it would probably be a good idea.
