Because the league is really struggling financially. What happened to people having boundaries to keep things proper? Maybe we can get each base sponsored at each ball park. I'd love to see a Chevy Powered HR by Freddie Freeman also.

Once the NBA did it, only a matter of time until the other leagues followed.

Has anyone ever actually even bought anything from an in-game sponsor of some sort?

I've been watching Giants games for decades, and at least the past fifteen years: "When it's time for a change, think Speedee Oil Change and tune-up -- your oil change, tune-up, and smog/brake/repair experts." Never been there before in my life. I've never even mentioned that promotion before to anybody except here now (if you think that's the "intent" of those sponsorships).

I definitely won't want to buy an MLB authentic jersey if more sponsors are slapped on there, either.

The fact that you remember the oil company is already worth the money for Speedee.

Brand recognition is what matters. If you end up needing an oil change and you see "CMH's Oil Change and Tire Rotation" and "Speedee" on a street, you're likely going into Speedee's because you're familiar with the name and believe it'll provide better service.

And, yeah, a lot of people probably just go to their dealership or a place they've always gone, or a friend's, or something. But enough people must be dropping into Speedee to get an oil change simply because they saw it on the way and trusted the place otherwise these companies wouldn't keep pouring money into the ads.

A lot of the stuff is just a reminder.

              ^ Fair enough, maybe.

There are certain places I feel like I want to avoid because of their ads, as well. I will not ride with The General, for example.

I also haven't ever witnessed In-N-Out Burger do a single television or radio commercial, or seen a billboard with their name on it. Not that they don't exist, but I don't ever recall seeing one. Yet, it's possibly the most successful burger chain here on the west coast. They also probably save a pretty penny not doing all of this marketing. Anyway, though I'd say that.

I can't wait to see Mike Soroka throw his Meineke Car Care Curveball. Ozzie Albies is gonna get a good jump and take Delta Airlines 2nd Base. That is his 22 Zoomers sponsored stolen base on the season.

I assume I won't see any ads while living in the east coast but from what I've read In-N-Out has a very different approach, you're right.

They are still family-owned, I believe. Not publicly traded. Refuse to franchise last I checked.

They want to appear as a mom-and-pop shop and avoid advertising probably for that reason.

Anyway, to bring this back on topic, looks like Sandoval has found a way to incorporate In-N-Out burgers while performing well again.

You joke, but isn't this already happening?

Watching Yankees games on YES and everything is sponsored by someone.

                    The pre-game show.

The scouting report before the game.
                    The lineups.

Heck, even home runs are technically advertised as being part of Amazon when you factor in that statcast is always powered by AWS when they show hit velocity and launch angle.

Pitching changes in my house have been called the AT&T call to the bullpen for at least 5 years probably 10. It's permanent now.

Jersey ads aren't as bad as people made them out to be. I'm sure if they introduced them like 25 years ago, nobody would be complaining still about them.

Would be nice if it's like what many NBA teams do and actually get to colorize the ad based on the teams colours.

The Braves already have a sponsor for Cherokee Casino in the stadium, might as well have the Cherokee Casino Braves of Atlanta.
