I'm confused, weren't Levine and Hal considered people who wanted to run the Yankees as a cheaper, leaner franchise? Tearing down and going younger (cheaper too) with an eye to contending as early as 2019-20 would be an ideal move.

Stop thinking so shortsightedly! Attendance and TV numbers may fall for a bit but there's got to be a solid core fanbase right?

Anywho, Jays are among the teams interested in Pomeranz. The Blue Jays analysts/reporters have been spitballing ideas for the Jays for the deadline:

Drew Pomeranz is the most likely name in some respects as well as the idea of getting a bat. The Jay Bruce thing just won't die either. Jeff Blair made a good point about getting a backup catcher that can actually hit and brought up Chris Hermann's name.

The consensus among them is that the Jays should target 2 starters (one rental, one controllable) and/or bullpen help.

Cashman wants to rebuild/tear down. Hal and Levine don't.

Levine and Hal want to save money while also making money. I don't believe anything they do is in the interest of the actual baseball team.

I know that, but wasn't the scuttlebutt when Hal took over ownership that the Yankees were going to cut down their budget and be more flexible with their roster decisions as well as try to skew younger.

I'm alright with Espinoza leaving, but for Pom is interesting. I hope he can do well here!

Trading a top prospect for a 27 year old NL pitcher having a career year is a gamble. Given the trade market and DD track record you knew to expect something like this to happen. They weren't just going to sit by and waste the offensive output without adding a starter to that god awful rotation.

I think the question I have now is, is DD done? He could have a lot of fun trading our farm now that he's started.
