If you're someone that values a farm system prepare to shed bitter tears. If his time in Detroit is any indication he'll do as much as he can to get pieces to win NOW.

Speaking of trades... Shelby Miller has been optioned to AAA.

Bet Stewart wants to use a mulligan on that deal.

If this is the price for a decent pitcher (Pomeranz), I think we can expect some unexpected prospect names to change teams over the trading season. Like the move or not, it is a bold, attention-grabbing move that involves both an All-Star and a blue chip prospect.

Wow. I knew he was awful this year, but looking at his stats and then just knowing they gave up Swanson...man.

Yep. I would not be surprised to Grant Holmes, Jose De Leon, Soler, Baez get moved this deadline.

Yeah, if it's going to take a big prospect name then eesh, well at least the Jays have a handful of guys that have widespread appeal in baseball but they got to be careful not to completely empty out the cupboard. If i'm Shapiro and Atkins I tread very lightly on this and try to get a controllable arm rather than a hired gun.

Like that he's under control for two more years. Coming from the NL concerns me , but then I remember he can't possibly be worse than Buchholz every fifth day. That alone calms my worries a little.

Regarding the Pomeranz trade: I like the fact we got a controllable starter who has a lot of talent. I've liked Pomeranz since his Indian days as a prospect. His peripherals look good, and he's only 27. Giving up Espinoza however, is not what I particularly care for. But, you have to give talent to get it, and Pom is definitely an upgrade to Buchholz and anything else we have (E-Rod needs more time in Pawtucket). I am glad that we didn't give up Moncada or Tendi for this deal, and signing Groome today makes this a easier pill to swallow.

Let's see what else DD has up his sleeve...

Well, there's no getting around that the Red Sox just paid $20 for a gallon of milk, but when you have a lot of $20s and not a lot of milk, maybe you make this deal?

The Padres basically turned Yonder Alonso into a consensus top 15 prospect in the game. Not a bad day's work.
