    Re: 2022 - 2023 Hot Stove Thread

    BREAKING NEWS:

Here's a video of Correra (left) and Boras (right) in a meeting with Farhan Zaidi.

We now know the medical issue that led to the Giants changing their mind:

I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

I think he's better for the game than the owners who pretend that they dont have any money.

I'm all for spending wisely (after all it is their money), but some of the extreme penny pinching and pre-mature teardowns that these smaller market clubs go through is pretty ridiculous.

I’m all for the big spending, I wish the team didn’t feel like a bunch of mercenaries but I’ll get over that once they start winning some games. They desperately needed another bat. The Mets have a four year window to win a World Series, once the CBA expires the other 29 owners will be out to get Cohen.

Phillies get Turner. Mets get damn near everyone else. Braves get … Jordan Luplow?

            Yeah, not feeling this off-season.

The Mets have been the kings of winning the offseason for years now. This is on a whole new level though.

As things stand right now, the Mets' luxury tax penalties (~$110M) alone are higher than 10 teams entire payrolls (no surprises on who they are either: ARI, WAS, MIA, TB, CLE, PIT, BAL, CIN, KC & OAK)

                    Stunning!
Yet if you look at the NL East they had to do it (replace 3/5 of a rotation/entire bullpen/and FA CF). Let alone the NL crown with what's in the West. Even the NL Central has gotten deeper. We have a fan owner with billions and doing whatever it takes to compete! He knows he's taking a loss $. It's what every fan wishes and hopes for

I know it's only a matter of semantics, but he actually may not be taking a loss, he may just not be taking the same profit a lot of the other owners have become accustomed to, and that's going to ruffle some feathers.

I still hate these articles that keep coming out regarding signings. Whenever cohen signs someone it’s “this is great for baseball”. And “other owners need to be ashamed”. But whenever Seidler and padres spend it’s “is this sustainable? Where are they getting the money? They have to trade everyone now. What are they doing??”

                        Tired of it.

I think it’s awesome what the Padres are doing and how their owner isn’t trying to squeeze every last dollar of profit out of the team

                              Even better..

Their luxury tax penalties are higher than multiple of those teams COMBINED AND higher than the MLB AVERAGE league wide payroll.

Yankees and Mets combined I'd imagine have higher total payrolls than entire divisions (excluding themselves from their own divisions)

That's a fair point....but the highest luxury tax threshold seemed to be implemented specifically with Cohen in mind to keep him from spending like crazy and keep salaries down league wide (which obviously didn't work)
