Its "PADRES" that can't hit in there ball park not outsiders.
It's called Petco Itis. He is also a player that has said it and hes the reason why they brought in the right centerfield wall to move in from 411 to 402
But continue to make exuses for the Padres front office complete lack of putting a quality team on the field.Comment

Originally posted by TheTruth916Believe me for the last 3 years, that has been irritating to see other teams come into Petco and hit. Then the Padres just don't hit there...that is frustrating. Yes it is sad and you would think they would snap out of it, but 3 years later they still haven't. Giles hasn't changed his swing at all...the only thing different is that he's became a #2 hitter since arriving at Petco. He would rather walk than drive in runs. Giles leaves more men on base in scoring position than I have ever seen.Comment

Yeah I must admit this lineup doesn't really scare me.Comment

Originally posted by Scottdwell, I am not a Dr., but I play one on the net lol. Well maybe it is talent. Maybe he is going down. Or jealous of his little brother! Well the number 2 guy is suppose to get on base any way they can, maybe he is piss and want to be number 3 or 4. I believe after awhile as player you have to quit blaming the Park, no matter how true it is. And just start hitting. The DuCross Brothers: Sports Internet Talk Show

I Am sick and tired of this team being a complete joke. TIred of fans of opposing teams heckling us as we leave the park, and there's nothing you can say back, because their team just spanked us. I am sick of hoping for a mediocre record. 25 years is enough for me.

Originally posted by ScottdCome on, even if he said that, then that is sad, because he should snap out of it when he sees other guys hitting them out. If it is all in his head, he need to go to a shrink. What is causing him for hitting them out, did he change his swing to hit line drives? Fill me in.
I believe the reason why other teams have no problem hitting them year is because they don't play 81 games here seeing their crushed balls that would be home runs elsewhere just die in the gaps for outs on a daily basis.Comment

But regardless I agree with you on that as well. The Cubs a couple of years ago when Sosa was still decent and when they Alou they pounded eight home runs in a span of three games... EIGHT. The Devil Rays were even able to take advantage of this ballpark. The fault here relies on poor positional scouting by Towers... especially when he says he knew how the ballpark was going to play.
Giles is a good player, but there's no doubt in my mind the Padres would have been a better team if they had held off on the trade back in 2003 and have gone after Guerrero, who at the time was looking for a contract that would cost slightly a little more than Giles...
Who would you rather have had going into 04 now that we know how Petco Park plays like? Giles and Payton roaming in CF and RF and Ismael Valdez as the fifth starter or Guerrero and Bay in CF and RF and Oliver Perez as the fifth starter.
Guerrero would be the perfect guy in RF... no disrespect to Giles because I still would like him in my lineup if he was on my team (and would rather have him in LF than the broken down Ryan Klesko those two years), but Vladimir's power wouldn't be diminished by Petco Park IMO and Bay would benefit from Petco Park (I hear he's lost some home runs at PNC Park because of LF).Comment

They had no intention of ever going after Vlad though. The Angels simply would have out bid the Padres. Their best chance was to go after players by trade, because if it ever came down to a bidding war, they simply won't match.
Looking back on that trade, even if you take Perez out of the equation, I sure as hell would rather have Jason Bay in the outfield over Giles. Or any one of our other outfielders. I'd be hard pressed to find a single every day player on this roster I would rather have than Jason Bay.
I was disappointed however. The rumor that kept coming out of SD was that the Padres were interested in making a move to get Al Soriano. He's hitting the ball out of RFK, and if he can hit bombs there,he can hit bombs here. Not to mention he can run and is a lifetime .281 hitter. There really isn't any position player I'd rather have than him either.
The Padres are the Padres for a reason, tight pursestrings and lack of talent and vision in the FO.Comment
