    Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs

god...do we really need Jim Edmonds?????

He just put the weakest swing on a ball and created a simple twin-killing for Houston...of course everyone grounds into a double play now and then, but we are down, have a runner on...if that runner could have been advanced he might have scored on DeRosa's single...

so...to ask another question...if we have to have Jim Edmonds (spit) do we have to put him in front of DeRosa?? Why are we breaking up the Soto-Derosa tandem that was doing so damned well in the first place??

Sometimes I wonder if when a manager puts on a cubs uni or someone works in the team's office it exposes them to silly gas...

another question....do you think it would have been better to wait for Griffey...if we were after an aging lefty outfielder?

      somebody's got to say it....

Good win tonight...thank god for the Bucs...

4 hits for Zambrano, every starter with a hit save for Soto (feast or famine, i tell ya). Hoffpauir got a pair of hits, as well. Johnson with 8 total bases, 4 on a 3-run HR...

I know Johnson is hitting under .275, but I think he would be better everyday rather than as a platoon with that other guy.

Seriously, though...we have got to win series against Milwaukee, StLouis, and Houston. We are not going to see Pittsburgh very often after the break.

        Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs

what is it about the cubs and the 9th inning? good god...wood can't help but let the first man on, and today an error allows a run to score. Extra-effing-innings in pittsburgh again.

Essentially this is two games in a row that Soriano has made a bonehead play, what with him getting picked-off yesterday...picked-off second by the catcher? I know the bunt play might have been on, but come on...

I think Wood's problems come from not pitching regularly enough...I think he might actually do better if he were a late inning reliever rather than a closer.

I don't know but these last two games have been so frustrating. Soriano is just a bonehead and is one of the worst outfielders I've seen. Every catch is such an adventure for him and I shudder every time a ball is hit to him. He really doesn't have a clue out there. Has he always been this bad because I didn't follow him too much while he was with Washington?

Wood has already blown four saves this year which is unacceptable. For comparison purposes, Dempster blew only 3 all of last year. It's just so frustrating to see a HBP in the first ab only to come in to score. Hopefully, the Cubs can turn this around against LA today because I can't take much more of these senseless losses.

Bay or Soriano....who would you rather have?

Only one seems to be able to keep his head. Soriano up, bottom of the inning, tying OR winning run on, 2 out...do you really feel like he is going to get a hit? No...you hope, just like you did with Sosa....I knew at the end of both games, if it came down to whether Jason Bay can hit a single or a double...we was doomed.

I will say again...I want to see Wood pitch, say, every other game. Not as a closer. Pitching once every 3-4 days really might not work for him. Why not use him and Marmol by committee as the 7-8-9 guys? If Howry stays on track, he would probably do better than Wood in the 9th.

This organization has to pull Wood off its teet...or it may be the other way around...but it is likely that if this team is to succeed at present, they have to move Wood out of the closer spot. The fans have no confidence in him, the opponent likely does not fear him much, the team must feel something...all of which means he knows it, too...

The Cubs still remain the only team in the Majors that hasn't lost three in a row. Dempster pitched well considering the wind blowing out the entire game. He overcame alot of jams today, which was something I wanted to see if he could do. He has been the most biggest surprise of the season for me so far.

Cards and Stros begin a series tomorrow...lets hope they can beat each other up a bit...

I don't know if i want them to split the series or for one team to sweep the other...if the cubs can sweep LA, I wouldn't mind seeing StL or Houston lose 3 straight, even if it meant 3 wins for the other.

Way too early in the season to scoreboard watch. Lets just hope the Cubs can keep taking care of business and not fizzle out during the dog days of summer.

Yep. St. Louis SOS is also dead last in all of baseball. I have a feeling you'll see them tail off over the next month or so. I'm actually more concerned with Houston.

Well, Kosuke's magic seems to have worn off...

He has 5 hits in his last 10 games, none of them for extra bases.

He is still providing the glove, but has not produced at the plate for a good bit. Watched him several times over the past few games and he seems to be putting little to nothing on the ball when he makes contact.

Somebody needs to tell him to stop trying to go the other way ALL the time...or something. His slugging percentage will dip under 400 pretty soon. His average is already sub .300

It's never too early to watch the scoreboard the games in April mean as much as the games in September

For ****'s sake how long can the cubs trot out Edmonds's .170 hitting ***? Seriously? This is a joke....we could be getting at least .230 out of Pie, and Pie hustles and plays hard...Edmonds looks like complete trash...

There is no other way to put it...this is stupid. W T F ?

It is so bad that I won't comment on the rest of the silly lineup Lou has assembled tonight...
wait...yes I will...what good does Soto do us with Edmonds in front of him and Cedeno behind him? Why is one of our best hitters left to fend for himself at the bottom of the lineup while the half-century-old Edmonds bats 6th?
