    Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs

Were in dire need of another lefty bat, and I think Edmonds could really be good in a platoon situation with Reed Johnson. Pie just isn't getting it done offensively to warrant him being out there everyday. And this team really needs some pop from the left hand side of the plate. Its not like were giving anything up for him anyway.

Zito, we don't need another lefty bat. Their offense is just fine with them platooning Pie and Johnson.

Honestly, all this does is make us worse defensively. What makes this organization think that Edmonds will hit here, when he couldn't hit in St. Louis and was hitting .178 for the Padres??

Looks as if the Cubs will sign Jim Edmonds and send Felix Pie to AAA.

Fugazi, the White Sox gave Crede every chance in the book, and look what he did for them since the '05 playoffs.

You're right, Pie just needs A TON of major league at bats.

I Still think signing Edmonds is a dumb thing to do...

But Soriano is playing in a fashion that could lead me to forgive him for being...well...him.

Nice win tonight. I need to eat crow on Soriano. Dude has been a baller since that debacle in St. Louis.

Hitting .500 last 8 games. Mistakes are going to happen your team players willl be bad at times but what defines a fan is how true you stay to them even when they hit rock bottom.

My dislike of Soriano has/had nothing to do with me as a fan...not buying this one...

                      Moving on...........
Is it possible that the 3 of the 5 best teams in the NL are in the Central? Chi, StL, Hou, and Mil all seem to be strong, despite perceived weaknesses for each. Houston has a monster offense, StL has Ankiel, who has (I hate to admit) been terribly impressive all around, and Mil still has a lot of potential, especially with Braun going full-speed...

                      Quick Cubbie Quiz....

Who leads the Cubs in OBP?
Which hitter leads the Cubs in Strikeouts?
Who leads the team in RBIs?
Which hitter has the most doubles?
Who leads the Cubs' offense in Slugging?
                      What about OPS?

Rather than post a 'spoiler' window, I will wait to post the answers until later today...

Ted Lilly pitched well for the Cubs leading them to the win.

                          Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs

It was just weird to see Edmonds in a Cubs uniform today. He left 7 guys on base today and got booed when he struck out with the bases loaded. I don't think he's gonna last long.

On the other hand, Dempster has been a great surprise this year and continued to roll with an absolute gem today. He moved to 5-1 on the year and his impressive stat line today was 8 1/3 innings, 6 hits, 0 ER, and 12 K's. Wood came in and struck out the 2 batters he face to notch up his 8th save.

Good win today combined with the St. Louis loss put the Cubs 2 games up in the division.

                                Daryl Ward placed on DL.

Suprised to see that Dempster struck out 12 vs the Pads. Pads hitting is horrible this season.
