    Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs

    After Washington...

    3 at home with Milwaukee
3 games each in St. Louis and Cincinnati
Then a day off before Arizona and SanDiego come to
Wrigley for 3 and 4 games, respectively.

If you offered me an 8-8 record through that, i would take it.
The Cubs could be 9-10 games above .500 after the first quarter of the season...

    Let's GO CUBS!!

EDIT: BobHowry...you are officially being put on notice. Wil Nieves, who to this point had never homered in the majors, hits a walk-off shot to give the Nats the win... I do not think that we can worry about Weurtz, Howry, and Wood all year; we can't rely solely on Marmol for consistent relief.

Let's keep putting Bob Howry out there in crucial situations. Stupid idiot. I know they've been trying to justify this piece of garbage's contract for two years, but let it go. Enough of this bum.

Damn Howry. How the heck do you give up a bomb to Nieves? Cubs better win the next two.

I'm surprised there's no mention of Reed Jonson's catch in this thread...That was amazing!

            Good call Zekey.

Well Marquis didn't help us out last night. These are the teams we need to beat to prove we are championship worthy.

Seems like we're slipping a bit. It was bound to happen. Still hate our bullpen...well most of it.

we scored 7 runs and our starter still took the loss....this guy has to be removed from the rotation. If his next start is as bad as this one (he has only had one good one so far), Lou has to pull him.

I am afraid Soriano is going to come back during a 'down period' for the team, which I think would be disastrous. I can't stress enough how much I believe Soriano's approach at the plate hurts this ball club not only logistically, but psychologically. He is the only guy on the team with that approach, everyone else has at least a little bit of the "I-need-to-get-on-base" mentality, even Ramirez.

hopefully tonight is not the feast before the famine...soriano is due back tomorrow.

Soto with 2 homers and 6 rbis through 3 plate appearances (1 strikeout in which he looked pretty bad).
Dempster seemed to lose his mind despite having a ten-run lead.
Daryl Ward needs to go away.

                    Great win tonight.

Hey fugazi, I really wish the Cubs COULD trade Soriano. With 100 mil left on his contract and him being a bust at the moment, that is pretty much impossible.

no doubt...it will likely not happen...and, frankly, I am quite worried about it. (and I promise not to call you 'frankly' again).
The great thing about being a pessimistic **** like me is that if you are wrong, then all is probably well....I hope he comes back strong, hits above the Mendoza line, and gets out of the way of the buzzsaw our offense has recently become.

Fontenot and Cedeno have really proven themselves so far this season as timely and improved hitters, and each is decent with the glove. There will be a lot less playing time for each of them.

In defense of Soriano, he did have a hit in 7 straight games before going on the DL, but only two of those games were multi-hit games (2 hits in each). During that same stretch he K'ed as many times as he hit, and only 3 of those hits were for extra bases.

I hope he can be humbled and moved into the bottom half of the lineup, where his all or nothing approach will be a little less detrimental to Lee and Ramirez, both of whom are feasting on the quality play and +.300 average of Johnson, Theriot, and Fontenot when he hits second. I don't think it is mere coincidence that ARam (and even Lee) got better after he left the lineup.

But if Hendry knows he is going to be paying Soriano so much for so long, and the guy is not performing well, it might be worth paying for him to leave and getting a pitcher to replace Marquis or to sure up the pen.

Great offensive explosion. But Howry still sucks. 8.10 ERA. Not bad.

Give him the hook. I say let Marmol be the closer.

I've been bitching about our bullpen from day 1. I'm a whole lot more worried about it than our #5 starter. We need at least two good arms there.

All we got is Marmol right now as far as someone to trust. So sure you could move him to closer, problem is Lou would have nobody else to give it to before the 9th. I don't trust any of these guys. We need to move one of these starters out of here for some good bullpen arms.

I'm also seeing Z revert back to some bad habits. Yes he's pitched great, but he's back to throwing too many pitches again. He's our #1, he's gotta be able to get deeper in games than 6 innings. But he's getting up into the 115 range after 6.

Still bullpen is and will be our biggest challenge all season.

Good series guys but why is Wood still closing games for you when you have Marmol?
