Before the game even started, I had a feeling there is just no way we win today. BAM.......we pull it out. 27 games left in the season, and we only have to go 15-12 to get 100 wins. When this season started, I thought we would be somewhere at best 87-93 wins

No way did I think this team would be 35 games over 500 this year. I was actually didn't even think we would make the playoffs. Boy am I glad I was wrong."The academic support at Ohio State, there is no way you can fail. Even if you're giving minimal effort there is no way you can fail."

I know guys. I have been hard on Hendry at times, and mad when they didn't get this guy or that guy in the offseason. Well, now this team as constructed is legit and deep. Just feels great after all these years. Long way to go, but I feel pretty good right now.Comment

Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs
Now we just need Mark Cuban to buy the team this winter and everything would be perfect."The academic support at Ohio State, there is no way you can fail. Even if you're giving minimal effort there is no way you can fail."

Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs
Me, too. 3 runs on 11 hits...that can be hard to do.
Marshall needs to learn to throw fewer strikes when ahead in the count, though he did work out of some jams. Defensively, he is a liability. I sure hope Zambrano is alright. Lieber was at the park, he will likely be added to the expanded roster along with Hoffpauir (please, no more Ward) and Angel Guzman (please, no more Cotts).
I don't think the Cubs hit but one flyball to LF the whole game, even though they were hitting Moyer pretty hard, but mostly foul. They didn't take BP before the game, and it showed.
Lee and ARam both looked like dooshes all day at the plate. Lee popped out twice, once in the 9th...somebody needs to fix his swing so he will hit more liners, he looks like crap. That back shoulder drop his killing him, and is the reason he hits so many pop-ups, weak grounders, and high fly outs...He is not keeping the bat on the same plane as the ball thru the zone, and it shows...I haven't seen him hit a line drive in a while, though I will be watching today on WGN.
Though I was 380ish feet away, the ump didn't seem to be consistent with his zone.
Cubs played excellent defense, save for Marshall. Cedeno, Fukudome, Lee all made some nice plays. Soriano is weird...took his glove off after every pitch, never seen that before.
I knew we were in for a long day when I looked up at the
scoreboard and the Cubs pennant was wrapped around the pole...
The bleachers were awesome...though I am sunburned....hot as hell, wind blowing, but not at us! Can't wait to go back. Saw Fontnot as he arrived...when not in uni, he looks like a stoner.Last edited by fugazi; 09-01-2008, 02:02 PM.Australian Rules Football...just sayin'Comment

I wonder if it's time to panic. The Brewers CANNOT have homefield advantage for the NLCS.Comment

Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs
Nice game. Howry.....well Lou defies all logic and trots this bum out still. Gee can't wait til playoff time. What a joke. Clean out this piece of trashes locker already.
And my hero, #3 hitter Derrik Lee. 6 men LOB Mr. Anti Clutch himself. Big gaping hole in the middle of our lineup. Great job Lou, don't try to improve anything, just keep the status quo.
Good thing the Brewers lost.PSN: JISTIC_OS

Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs
I am a cards fan but I have to agree that the cubs look pretty good this year, but I also think that when they make it to the post season they won't make it that far. My reasoning for this is mainly due to thier lack of experience in playoff play (which edmonds doese help with) and they carry too much emotion into thier games which can be a good thing but is also a very bad thing. In the playoffs you have to take it one game at a time and I don't think that the cubs are ready to do that yet. However, if they get home team advantage the wind, errrr thier incredible offense, will go a long way.Comment

Re: 2008 Chicago Cubs
ehh...whatever, dude...
Why can someone in this entire coaching staff not tell Soriano, Lee, and Ramirez that, when the team only needs one run, and there are men in scoring position, a single will do just fine?
I am sick of watching them swing for the fences and coming out of their shoes. Lee's swing is completely Fubar. His bat is taking such a violently upward path thru the zone that I wouldn't be surprised if his average drops to .270 by the end of the month. Someone should be fired for not dealing with this. I don't care if he is tall, that has nothing to do with it. I defy anyone to tell me the last time they saw him hit a line drive.
There is absolutely no excuse for Howry and Weurtz being brought into that game. Howry has shown time and again this year that he can get no on out; he was great for us last year, but that doesn't matter now. Weurtz has one pitch, for christ's sake. Of course, Marmol, Wood, and Samardzija can't go every day, but we saw them yesterday thanks to these decisions. What is the deal with Gaudin? If he isn't hurt, he must feel like some kind of a bum if Howry keeps getting the nod over him.
I want to see Hoffpauir, pronto...I am not saying he will do well, or that one player will make the difference, but someone needs to put some heat under Lee's ***, and Ward should have to feel some pressure, too.
Some of this stuff, like sticking with bad relievers, not really adjusting the lineup, faith in people that have proven they will not come through, and what seems to be an unwillingness to address problem, reminds me of EVERYTHING i hated about Dusty Baker *spit*.Australian Rules Football...just sayin'Comment

Hoffpauir hasn't proved anything at the major league level. Especially to start giving him starts in September in the middle of the toughest part of our schedule.
And you didn't just compare Lou to Dusty Baker did you?
Remember were still 30 games over 500. No need to push the panic button quite yet."The academic support at Ohio State, there is no way you can fail. Even if you're giving minimal effort there is no way you can fail."

Hoffpauir has proven that he can rock in AAA, and played very well when he was in Chicago, with a .951 ops. That doesn't mean jack, really, but I would be willing to give him a start or two. he is a far better guy to have rest Lee or Soriano than Ward, that is for sure.
And yes, I compared Lou's unwillingness to move Lee until he hits more than singles and falls out of the 3rd highest gidp in the majors to Baker's general crappiness and unwillingness to do anything at all. Lee is a leader, and a good player, but someone needs to jerk him around. He is floundering and not showing any improvement. His .290ish average and .800+ ops are misleading. Of late, he is only hitting when no one is on (and those are singles), and when there are risp, they stay right where they are as he swings for the moon (or something).
Does it not bother you that Lee and ARam were the last two outs Sunday and Tuesday, both were games that could have been won? I think Lee was the last out on Monday... When it comes to late innings, I become quite nervous with them at the plate.
All I know is that last year, the Cubs smelled like this and Arizona waxed them, and they looked as though they didn't care the entire time. I would like to see Lou argue with the umps a bit more, just to show some emotion. There was an awful call last night that allowed Berkman to walk ahead of Blum...would it have changed the game? who knows...but Wood got hosed, the crowd knew it, everybody knew it, and Lou should have been out there informing the ump that this was a real major-league game and kicked some dirt on him.Last edited by fugazi; 09-03-2008, 09:13 PM.Australian Rules Football...just sayin'Comment
