They've historically been crappy on these trips out West, but that's usually when they go to San Fran. and LA.

Yep, don't need sweeps. Just keep winning every series.

great night for Tavares, going 5-5. I am very happily suprised by him this year. He is hitting very good for us and we have needed that at the leadoff spot forever.

As a team, I am more than happy. I hope Arroyo and Volquez can get consistent and I hope Cueto and Harang continue to do well. Owings needs a bit more consistency as well but overall how can you not be pleased with this pitching staff?

Impressed by Nix and Rosales and I hope Bruce starts hitting a little more for average soon. Broke his 11 game hitting streak last night, but he seems to getting there. Plus 10 hr's isn't too shabby. Votto is the MAN. What a great way to start the season for him. Although I do think he needs to hit for just a bit more power. He seems like a guy that could and should hit 25-30 every year.

Hopefully we don't get hit with the injury bug and the pitching staff holds up. If so, I think we can make some noise but only time will tell.

EDIT: I haven't paid attention to Hernandez's defense but his hitting has been very respectable as well.

        Re: 2009 Cincinnati Reds

West coast road trips have seemed to be our demise in years past. It seems to be quite an accomplishment if we can just win half of those games.

Rosales is playing well offensively but defensively he's struggled a bit. Last night they gave Arizona (can't remember who was batting) a hit on a ball that Rosales should have had and what should have been an error imo. I'm sure he'll come around though, I love the kids passion.
And Hernandez plays good D. Not phenominal but solid.

Yeah alot of people where wrong about Taveras when he came here, including alot of people in this thread! lol
So what happens when Edwin is healthy again? There is no way he plays over Rosales does he?

I think Rosales is somewhat a liability @ 3rd. he NEEDS to attack the ball, instead of letting the ball attack him. His 1st step is ALWAYS....BACK. i don't get it...he's so damn aggressive running & hitting, but when it comes to fielding...he NEEDS to attack. Now sayin' this doesn't mean EE is flawless in the field...HARDLY...but EE IS the better fielder imo.

Like Mo said, last night was more proof that Rosales lets the ball play him. The rest of his game I like, but his fielding is like Dorn from Major League.

Edwin might be a better fielder but Adam makes better throws. Almost all of Edwins errors are throwing errors.
I have a feeling when Edwin is ready Dusty is going to give him his job back.

Agree 100% - was going to post the same kind of comment until I read yours. Some of the plays Edwin makes are jaw dropping but then he throws the ball 6 feet over the 1st basemans head. And remember, although Edwin has struggled at the plate thus far this season he has had a good bat in the previous 2 seasons. I think he should get his job back at this point when he's healthy.

No matter what happens with tomorrow's game I'm happy now. We have at least 2/3 from the D'Backs.

That said, I'm hoping for a sweep.

Micah Owings pitched a gem last night against his former team.
The Reds are now only 1 game back at 19-14!

I'm enjoying this success as much as possible before the inevitable drop off.

I'm sorry I'm so damn pessimistic about this team. Sorry if it offends anyone. I really do love this team now, I just want to see them keep it up!

Let me first say I do not think this team will make the playoffs this year.
I dont think they are going to fall off as you say. Their pitching is just way too good to lose too many games this year. I think they are going to finish about 85-77 and just miss making the playoffs. Let me finish by saying that next year this team is going to be even better and they have a shot to be really good for a really long time.

yeah there's just too many good teams in the NL this year to hope for a WC spot. Cubs, Cards, Mets, Phillies, Dodgers and you could lump Marlins and Braves as potential WC challengers as well.

still, nice to see the Reds win a series on in the West.

I don't see us making the playoffs either.

As a matter of fact, I predict a sharp drop off right after the All-Star break.

I don't want it to happen, but I just have a bad feeling it will. The teams needs to prove me wrong

Man this team is playing great!
They are getting great pitching and hitting, good defense, great hustle on the base paths including stealing bases. I also just read they are leading all of baseball in going from 1st to 3rd on a single, they hustle and play so much harder then last year it is not even funny! My question is where have all the Dusty bashers gone!!!???? LOL
I saw last night after the game Brandon said this turn around this year was all Dusty, he said to a man they all love playing for him.
20-14 tied for first in the NL Central, I LOVE WINNING!
